Great workplace culture and well managed. High level of fulfillment supporting youth who are experiencing mental health or psychosocial crisis or living in residential managed care. I have worked on all units and in all group homes and find each to have their own particular culture and methods. Management is excellent, understanding and responsive. Coworkers are supportive and debrief often which helps to reduce the stress associated with this type of work. There is opportunity for advancement and the organization tends to hire internally if possible. Training is provided and there is access to some well known speakers and workshops. Staff share meals with the youth and are welcome to share leftovers. The youth are the most rewarding aspect of the job as employees build relationships with the youth and become a large part of their lives. There is a strong cultural identity to Marymound and cultural activities are available to youth and employees. Diverse work environment with positive ethics, values etc. Staff work as a team and manage situations with professionalism.

Marymound  is not a company I would suggest to anyone to be employed with. After two years of employment, demonstrating strong dedication and work ethic, the support from human resources and management in the time of a personal mental health struggle was inadequate. I was not taken seriously and was told that I am a problem and had been refused to return to work. I have witnessed staff being bullied company wide on a daily basis, including staff who have been brought to tears due to the way they have been treated,  and human resources will always determine no fault on any part of management. 

It is very misleading how policy states to approach management and human resources if there is any form of conflict to seek support. This is not at all the case. Staff are not appreciated and are seen simply as a body on the floor and someone to fill a shift. 

My advise would be to find a more reputable company if you are interested in the nature of Marymound.

Clients are amazing and resilient young people who have taught me so much. Upper management floundering and quick to cover by pointing fingers to front line staff. Upper management appears to have plenty of support and front line workers have minimal, no voice, less staff to do difficult work and poorly trained staff as some programs were initiated before the ground work was laid to offer appropriate care. It can be a great place with amazing coworkers when supervisors are supported by management and the team feels supported. Great potential but a ways to go to become in line with current practices of trauma informed care.

my shift starts , the girls are usually playing on the Nintendo wii or watching TV. supper is prepared by the kitchen, girls eat and do their assigned chores. in the evening girls do program or activities with staff. i like my co workers and manager as well work well as a team and my manager is very flexible with our schedules. the hardest part of my job is it can be mentally challenging at times and having to retrain girls who are of danger to themselves or others. i love my job because these girls need positive role models in their lives and its enjoyable getting out in the community and doing activities with the girls.

i had the best supervisor ever there but he left.. he was a director and progressive and kind.  the management who stayed are just obsessed with the history of the company and spend lots of time and fundraising for a mansion that doesn't help the kids or the staff. the director who left was very calm and skilled but the rest seem to run around and maintain crisis and run things emotionally. less professional after he left. I would often hear his peers complain about him and seem to plan to get him to leave and he did; they didn't seem to like him much.  ceo is nice and kind but her team are stuck in the dark ages so what can she do. 

Typical Day is always focused  on the youth and how we can support them achieve their daily activities.  I have learned that non-profit organizations play a vital role in our community. Management has been supportive, they provide free trainings to help workers well-equipped. Workplace is collaborative and understanding, sometimes stress arises however staff work hand in hand to solve it. The hardest part of the job is seeing youth undergoing personal struggles, or they are gone missing . The most enjoyable part of the job is building relationships and seeing how we have contributed to the welfare of the youth.

I started working at Marymound in 2014 and love it.  There is no "typical" work day as a youth care practitioner, as things can always change day to day.  There are general patterns of course, but things often come up to change the day around.  While working at Marymound, I have learnt a lot about ways in which to work with at risk youth.  There is definite stress involved but I have found my coworkers are supportive and help the group make it through high stress moments.

Front line staff are poor payed, not supported  at all. For work experiences, way to pass by and grab it at your own mental health

Very stressful  environment  and  almost half of the Manager  are Bosses around!

Regular hours.  Consistent work and clean facilities

Zero support from management and zero continuity among supervisors.

Very toxic. Staff gossips and be Littles other employees. No team effort.
