You are dealing with people with complex problems who will lie to you, lie in court and think nothing of yelling at you.
Kids get harmed very traumatic to deal with.
You can prepare plans the clients will derail their lives and their kids lives creating crises you have to deal with.
For a 4 year degree pay is low.
Kind of clique for advancement with people who will and can be critical even accusatory towards you when those plans your clients agreed to fails.
Expect to work in an environment where no body takes responsibility. 
You leave fearing what next bomb may go off. Sunday night's are dreadful thinking of going back.
Court and trials are awful and believe me clients want to go there cause they want their lawyers and the judges to yell - yes at you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Staff are generally great to work with 
They have kept me there so many times when I wanted to resign.

Demands are endless. 
Too much work to do and impossible to meet policy and procedures.

Not great. 
Feel devalued and not important.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Not enough time to spread myself around to the staff and responsibilities 
Mostly no breaks and not paid to work through them.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Pension and working with clients.  If you are on a great team, it’s great work!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
If there is a toxic environment.   If you have to move children away from their home. Sad

If you land in a good team, you are fine!

Not typical, which would be why you would enjoy the work

 MCFD is an integrative and inclusive place to work. You are well supported by management and feel a part of a team. Leadership is encouraged from the bottom up rather than the top down. You are encouraged to  grow and develop new skills. MCFD is informed and current with the latest child, youth and family research and modalities providing a better outcome for our communities. 

The experience as a 1st time Foster Parent is very challenging and rewarding... BITTERSWEET to say the least. Must be TRAUMA INFORMED and have low low expectations in all areas to do with MCFD. You are valued as a Foster Parent... but when it comes time to Transition you are no more than a piece of ______ to them. You have NO VALUE.

large ministry and the workplace culture was very dependent on which office or community you worked in. Manager can make or break the office, unfortunately in my last few years we had a manager change and the morale in the office plummeted considerably.
Colleagues were awesome, supportive and dedicated to one another and to service users.

Large caseloads.

Management will pull positions without warning 

Management get bonuses when social workers complete paperwork (care plans) which takes away time with our service users. 

We’ve been instructed to never discuss case or lack of staff. 

The system is so harmful.  The workers work so hard and then burn out.  


Not worth it at all… only if you want your soul to be sucked out of your body and heart to be broken on the daily. Case loads are too high and too complex to navigate. Dysfunctional at best. Policies need to change and workers well being needs to be addressed. Sadly I doubt it ever will.  Some sweet people to work with but the majority of staff are burnt out to a crisp and have no capacity to care anymore.

The work is enjoyable and can be fulfilling. Training for delegation is a lot longer than expected.  While pay is decent for the field there is a lot more earning potential in the private sector. The union is incredibly weak - their presence is non-existent.  Never HAVE to take your work home but if you do you probably won't survive.

Management heavy.  No creativity.  All about liability. Tons of paperwork. The gov't doesn't treat us as people.  They don't care.  Once you're gone they'll higher someone else. Do yourself a favor and find work elsewhere.
