MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY

I work in Research and Knowledge Transfer finance, dealing with the management of grants; a mixture of values between £1,000- £2m. The work is varied as each project has its own set of unique reporting requirements and no two grants are the same. I get to work with hundreds of different and very interesting people from a wide range of backgrounds. 
The work/ home life balance is excellent, with work from home days, high holiday entitlement and dependency days etc. I am lucky to be in a team where flexibility is high and if I need to adjust my hours to meet family commitments it is totally acceptable.
The workload is high but manageable and during busy periods the team work collaboratively to ensure that nobody is overwhelmed.
The job itself is not always the most interesting (a lot of financial admin processes and emailing) but if you choose to go the extra mile and take an interest in the projects themselves it is quite fascinating! There are some really inspirational people working at Mdx and I feel really lucky to liaise and support them, they increase my job satisfaction massively.
The only negative for me is that the finance department are based off-campus and it can be time-consuming having to travel back and forth to campus for meetings. I much preferred the facilities and inclusivity of being on campus when we were based there.

As a General Assistant I learned how to work with the public, pay attention and cater for their needs as trained. 

Working in such a varied cultural environment was an excellent way to broaden my horizon and knowledge on different cultures and customs and how to interact with them all but also taught me to be flexible and understanding in tense or complicated situations.

The most enjoyable part of my work is discovering that no matter how humble the position you are working in is, you are still able to make a difference and help someone or put a smile on somebody's face.

my job here was to facilitate first year student learning in the same course that i take while i was in my final year. 
i assisted teachers in seminar sessions. i also held independent sessions for small groups or individuals for optional aiming to guide and mentor students gaining them an advantage at times. 

Eye opening job making me understand the dynamics working at a university. it was difficult at times to calm down students who were stressed with work and suggesting ways for them to solve their problems.

i enjoyed the relationships built with colleagues to improve my knowledge and skills.

Working in Middlesex university was quite different in comparison to being a student. Everyone was extremely welcoming and it was easy to navigate as I was very familiar with the environment. Unfortunately I left as the role no longer served a purpose in my career journey. I’ve made life long friendships. And I’ll miss working there. I’d definitely recommend working there. I’d advise irrespective of the work environment there will always be the odd interactions with different characters however it doesn’t change the overall atmosphere.

I enjoyed working here because although I was a student it was really overwhelming guiding new students around the university, I could relate to them and understand them and help them get the best out of the university just as I have. I learned new things such as new departments, new courses, new lecturers etc. I got on quite well with my co-workers as they are students just like me! My favourite part of this job was organising events and being able to participate in them!

A good place to work. Number of events are programmed in order to grow as an individual and as a professional. . People are nice and the management are always willing to support. The quality of the teaching is of a high standard. Salaries not in line with the current demand of the job. Thus, I had a lot of fun studying and working here.

I have teamwork skills. The workplace culture is so good that you don,t feel bored at work. The hardest is everything when you start the new field, it just you need time to catch up in the work and you will be great at the workplace.

I have studied over here. I have done BEng Computer Communications and Networks and have also completed MSc Computer and Network Security. After graduating, I have applied for the job at Sophos Technologies Ahmedabad and I have got the job over there.

No day was particularly the same however every day started with office hours where i would be taking charge of admin tasks for the evening things such as booking tickets for events and liasing with outside companies

great people at a middle management level and below but once you get beyond that it is like trying to work in a rubix cube, no clear direction, no consistency, no integrity.
