I started out at as summer student and, despite having an accident on the job prior, I returned again for another year. Unsure with my direction academically and in life in general, I chose to take a finally break from school to stay on full-time, since I was mislead into believing that I had some sense of security with this current job as I seemed to have a good understanding of many things and be a favoured worker. I ended up finding out that, despite having worked there for two summers, I would have to complete my probationary period over if I wanted the to get into the union, to which I obliged. As a young person with little experience outside the academic system, I was just grateful to have a real adult job. So I did the best I could, taking overtime, dutifully performing whatever jobs they assigned me to (even if I was given little time to gain a real understanding of some machines), and asking for assistance or clarification whenever I needed it. Most of the workers there were understanding, kind and interesting, making for a good work environment with people of varying life experiences.  From my personal experience, even the supervisors came across as relatively affable, whether genuine or conciliatory. The work itself proved to be easy, at least whenever I received an appropriate amount of training (which varied). The shift work offered a good routine structure, which certainly may not be for everyone, but worked in some ways for me, helping my scheduling, but affecting my sleep patterns and bodily aches. I also found it helped me with motivation and, in two months, I managed to use my break-times to progress my skills outside of work, in hopes of possibly exploring future ventures and directions I could take in my life. Unfortunately, it took a toll on me in my personal life. I had to cut back and alter my gym schedule, I didn't have time for much outside of work (especially with overtime), Lethargy became more common and, at times, work seemed to augment my stress. Worst, upper management seems to be questionable at time with its management of the company and it's employees. There's too much of disconnect  between the theoretical and statistical logic of management devoutly loyal to the higher up versus the practical experience of the workers who are trying to do the best. There appears to be little authentic regard for it's workers outside of their value for the company and their worth.

And despite my genuine hard work and effort, I was suddenly handed a letter of termination without any notice, minutes before the end of my shift... approximately a  week before I got into the union. For over 5 months straight, I  attempted to give my best, at the cost of my own wellbeing, to prove myself to both the company and myself, that I wasn't a failure or unreliable. And in the end, they managed to concoct a captious excuse of an inadequacy in my capabilities, belittling my undisputed, sedulous efforts. When I desperately tried to get further clarification and plead my case, I was randomly sent from person to person, only to discover that the person responsible for my firing had mysterious went on vacation that week, specifically. I was left uncertain with feelings of consternation and a further lack of self-worth. Later, I managed to learn some things from fellow workers, both former and current that apparently this was a common practice to save money, terminating people for cavillous reasons as they approach the sanctuary of the union. Unknowingly, I have observed the absence of some other co-workers over the course of a few week and have heard of stories of some people being suddenly terminated for petty, obfuscate reasons, but only now do I understand the bigger plot. 

In my best attempt to be unbiased yet honest from my personal experiences, I would say this job is good and suitable for people who are lost in life and uncertain where they want to go, but need the income, routine and stability, even if uncertain. The environment among the workers is casual and understanding with some degree of camaraderie, while the jobs themselves tend to get easier to grasp when adequate training is given, overall paying fairly well with supposedly good benefits. The shift work can help get you into a routine, though it may get depleting after while. The balancing between work and life can be difficult and inconvenient  for some, especially during probation where you are taking a lot of overtime in attempt to get true security, and it can be physically taxing depending on the job assigned.
Unfortunately, the disconnect between management and it's employees who do the actual work, leads to questionable management. It is paramount to remember, especially for younger people with less working experience, that this is a company and as such, they are callous and calculating, serving only the company interests. Do not be deceived by the blandishment and fake empathy, and be aware of their shady practices such as termination shortly before getting into the union without much notice. Understand that management will watch you vigilantly to possibly cavil against you, even exaggerating or possibly lying, in an attempt to use you for free, temporary labour and disregard you for the companies benefits, giving you vague, unsatisfactory answers. Even if you seemingly follow the rules, you may still be at risk due to a minor, negligible slip-up, which is why it's important to do your best and gauge your success and performance off your own personal and genuine metrics, regardless of what management claims or states. In the end, I would say this was valuable experience in my life that has given me good practical experience in a full-time working environment, but as truly shown me the callous transactional relationship with work/management and to always be cautious of management and a company's agendas/practices. To be fair, there have been quite a few other workers who've found some success and managed to escape the clutches of the traps of the system. So while  I personally was in the unlucky minority to fall victim to this scheme, know that it is a chance that you may succeed and find success with a stable job here. 
In summation, if you have little to no other options and are in need of finances, this job may be suitable for you, at least for a time, but remember to do the work to the best of your ability, being open-minded and asking for help or clarification, while still keeping yourself and your well-being in mind, and to be aware of the cardinal fact that the company DOES NOT truly care for you and will disregard you if they choose without any real notice to serve their greater agenda.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very dynamic enviroment that changes rapidly. Multi-faceted cultural blended together in a loose system that actual works for the most part.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
No hour, let alone a day is like the other. One rolls with what comes next to the best of the skills they have.

Usual shift work factory job, pay isn't bad for what you do but Management in the main factory need to get their act together. They never document safety concerns at all and can't make up their minds on addressing issues. They care more for their cigarette breaks that they take all together every hour and only approach workers to  bring them to the office for write ups. So to sum it all up, not a great place to work anymore.

Clear divide between management and workers. It appears there is no desire to improve, just get the parts out. Various tiers of discipline and lack of accountability. Supervisors try their best but no backing from management either. The plant has a very toxic environment as well. Since it’s the auto sector, job security is dependant on the economy. They do pay well, but if they didn’t nobody would work there. 

I find it extremely weird that a company like MSSC in Chatham can hire someone for an entry level position, train them for four weeks for the expected tasks and then state that they are being let go because the person does not have the required skills for the entry level tasks they are asked to be doing when all that employee has ever received was good feed back from those training them.

This job is alright. Some of the jobs you might need to do can be pretty bad or stressful but most of them are fine. The communication is very poor and the management is terrible. Sometimes you’ll be asked to sign off on a job after a few minutes of doing it then other jobs they will forget to ask you completely. It pays good but I don’t know if it’s worth the chemicals you’ll inhale and the injuries you’ll most likely get. You have to be incredibly carful if you decide you wanna work here.

great place to work for the most part.  Coworkers are great, all the overtime you want unfortunately Management and especially ONE Human Resources Manger has a habit of harassing employees once he decides he doesn't like you.  I was fired while on S&A, when I went off for S&A didn't receive any payment for two months leaving me broke for Christmas holidays.  other than that no problems.

I worked here in 2022, I was terminated before I could get unionized and lasted only four weeks. this place just uses people for cheaper labor.  I know two other people who were also terminated before being unionized, I recommend do not work here.

Do not apply to work this company or even buy from them. Every point of power in the building do not care about the employees they hire and fire them a day before they get into the union. This is just a horrible company that took 3 months of my life that I will never get back. 

Flying by the seat of their pants. Managment lacks insite and knowledge in processes. Strong Union atmosphere so day to day things are a struggle. Overall great pay and benefits and you still get a pension. But you need to check out to work here long term.
