This is not a company that believes in or stands up for its employees. Well for starters a major RED FLAG since opening was the fact that the store has gone through a massive management change including the district manager and store manager leaving in the same month yet I continued to buy into the culture. One district manager who was brought in from the East even said everyone is replaceable. So if you have no value to them you are expendable. 
Also it is a very un-comfortable place to work if you do not speak Japanese. One example is the company brought in what they call a ''temporary'' district manager replacement who speaks very little English who only makes the effort to get to know and speak with those who do. So if you are sitting there in the office and everyone around you is speaking Japanese, well you can become very uncomfortable really quickly. 
Part-timers work very hard with little to no training which has been an on-going issue yet the company has hight expectations but at minimum wage and only a small increase after probation. They are definitely taken advantage of

I had a great experience working at MUJI, highly recommend it. The entire team was very welcoming and helpful, and everyone was willing to provide some guidance when needed. Management was really nice and understanding. Each department has a lead, and they were very nice as well. 

The training can be a little tedious, as there is a lot, a lot to learn. It was interesting though. Overall easy job. Will need to help out on the floor, as well as cashier duties. 

The hardest part of the job is probably trying to learn and memorize information about all the different products and departments.

This is not a recommended workplace. Management will not train you, but they expect you to become a know it all super hero in a snap. 

The management group in STC is a mean bunch. They expect other people to work perfectly but all they do is talk, talk and talk. 

You just can’t also be idle even for a minute. They’ll closely watch over you with their bionic eyes and re-do your tasks. If breathing can be controlled, they might do it as well. 

By the way, it’s a Japanese store but they keep on playing Mandarin/Chinese songs in the store. 

Definitely not a good place to work. There’s no inclusivity. The management have a core group, maybe because they are all the same.

the district manager would spend almost all day at my specific store. Manager felt like more of an assistant manager as the district manager was there always changing things in the store daily. Its a lot of merchandise knowledge about that store (information about the clothing and what the materials is, kitchenware, bedding, hygienic stuff, and snacks). the store isn't busy have the time and you spend most of the day keeping things very neat and tidy as it is a Japanese company and they have very high standards, also people from head office would visit often to see the quality of our store and they also send secret shoppers so we would have to make sure each customer is greeted and asked if they need help.

Honestly out of all the retail environments I have been in, MUJI is one of the best ones. Not only have I felt like I found some of the nicest people to work with, you feel rewarded and learn a lot about the brand. You end up with tons of clothing cause the discount is so good which honestly helps the brand rep cause customers will ask you about the item. There is a lot of turnover mainly because a lot of students on co-op come to work and go back home after a certain amount of time. The pay could be better but overall, MUJI is a really great workplace.

At the beginning was good. But then people started leaving in an incredible rate. I did not know what was going on. 24 people left in a range of 3 weeks.  Management is unprofessional, sneaky and have a lack of care. There way to many managers is one store  and all keep chating and do nothing during their shifts. 
Be ready for lack of trainning and a high demand of knowledge. 

The Japanese.is good but sometimes demanding people actlike you grew in japanese culture while you are not, is inconsiderated.

Managmenent is rude. A lotof bullying at the store from management towards the part timers.

Pros 
Good colleagues , good place to kickstart a retail experience,  diversed group of asian workers, multiple departments to engage with unlike a garments store where you only have to deal with clothes during the entire shift.

Cons-
1.No growth - if you are looking to stay longer and become a lead here then no chance , they dont open positions too often for a lead and when they do chances of an older worker to get that role is very high.
2. Boring store music that you have to bear the entire day.
3. employee discount can be much better.
4. no breaks during a 5 hour shift.. ideally its atleast 15-30mins in other stores.


Unfair salary; never raises the salary after probation. 

Short of people due to poor management, managers are not doing their job, throwing all the jobs to part-timers. They chat, drink coffee, browse social media during work hours. They do not know what products they have in the store, not well trained at all. 

Perks are fine.
Part-timers are friendly.

I do not recommend working in MUJI if you are looking for chances to get promoted. They do not promote people based on their working ability. 

The working environment is nice.

A very interesting store to work at, with a cozy atmosphere surrounded by Japanese designed minimalist products. Slow days happen frequently and these days are the worst, as talking to another co-worker is condemned by management, and there's only a certain amount of upkeep you can do. Some products are very obscure to North American culture, and must be learned, as there is little taught about products. This is especially frustrating because there are no English labels on products.

People are nice and the work environment is relatively good compared another retails. They try to run the business like how they do in Japan although we have very different marketing and demographic in here. It is definitely not good for someone who value work-life balance. As long as you are fine with listening order and do same thing every time, you will find it is a good job.
