Barrie Transit is an “ok” place to work. The people are fine but the pay is too low and completely out of touch with the cost of living here. There’s no pension and the benefits aren’t that great. Not to mention you pay for a good chunk of them out of your already inadequate pay.

None of this is helped by a very weak union who seems to be so useless at fighting for our compensation, they’re probably paid to suppress it. (They once negotiated a contract for a nickel raise).

This job has a brutal work-life balance, especially at first. It’s really just not worth it. You make significantly less than almost any other city in Ontario with the same or lower cost of living there.

If you want a well paying job that you can settle into and save for your future, look elsewhere, this ain’t it.

Leaving they don't play fair when it comes to how employees are treated overall, seems the get rid of some very easy and others can make many mistakes and nothing ever happens to them, some employees can even break laws and still work there and others make minor mistakes and they are terminated very easily,

Having to worry about loosing your job for very little such as my case, and no I'm not disgruntled, I was let go for a minor accident, and I know of others that broke laws and are still there, no fair play

Very stressed having to worry about making mistakes that would cost you your job

I tried to go through their driver training program. I went to every class, early. I had prefect attendance and was passing everything they put in front of me. Passed my driving test, as soon as one was available, and the first time I had a problem with one of the buses, they got rid of me. Stay away!!! Your safety is not a priority at this company. The trainers and management is a joke, and a bad one at that. The reason they are constantly looking for people is the high turnover rate and poor people skills. The longer I was there the more red flags I was, I am grateful to be away from this toxic environment.

A typical day in the job involves showing up for work 10 to 30 minutes ahead of the your schedule time. Unpaid. If you are 1 minute late consider yourself sent home. You'll be underpaid for 6 months with no pension and a horrible benefits plan. Company looks for any reason to fire employees. This place has a high turnover with a weak union. Union dues are $200 with biweekly deductions of a percentage of your paycheck instead of a set due.

I work on an on-call basis providing interpreting services to Cantonese speaking clients on medical appointments and assessments (psychologists, physiotherapists etc). The management of the company is very positive and friendly and often accommodates a free transportation to the client's home or the workplace. I enjoy meeting different people and developing my language skills.

Everyone is treated with respect.

All the shift changes when you first start is really hard on your body and is very tiring.

Most of the people are friendly and helpful.

It's your typical driving job.

The supervisors belittle you and blame you for their mistakes. The pay is low, benefits are ok but not the greatest, nobody knows what they're doing. The only person there that's awesome is Tina. Been with these guys since day one, prior to that was first. They were much worse but MV takes that as a challenge. They don't care about the employees at all. There's nepotism, favouritism and the Union is useless.

Sign your life away for about 40% less than the industry rate. Random work hours until you are at least 20 years senior, terrible buses reeking of diesel, say goodbye to your back (terrible old seats)

Management with big attitudes, no professional executives, total chaos unloaded on employees, always short staffed, underpaid, overworked, short checks, manipulations, threats of losing your job, weak union.

Don’t even bother working here, it’s a sinking ship. This place has a crazy high turnover and no moral due to garbage pay, a weak union and incompetent management. Save your time and apply to a real transit service that values their drivers and compensates them accordingly.

Life’s too short to be underpaid.

Best Company ever in the Simcoe county. Overall great experience and recommend everyone to apply here. Wages and benefits are great. Well maintained fleet. Electric buses are awesome. Room for growth in the company. Always treats you like a family.
