Wages are way too low (starting at just under 21.00 for 6 months and takes a year and a half to get to top wage which right now is 27.58) when you compare to other transit jobs that offer higher wages and better benefits (which are at no cost or minimal cost to the employees) our wages are low,
Here you have to pay for your benefits for a family plan is about 120 every two weeks, there's no pension plan, only RRSP plans which the company will only match 2% which is not a whole lot, only 20 hours of sick time (about 2 days worth and you have to fill out paperwork to get it and even then it's still not guaranteed that it'll be paid out), buses are not maintained very well and a lot of defects go ignored, fare boxes don't work most of the time, they have in my opinion an unreasonable attendance management policy, it's a full time job but only minimum guarantee for conventional transit operators is of 37 and a half hours a week, I think spare board drivers are still only guaranteed 35 hours a week, everyone else gets 40 hours a week. Payroll doesn't always get things right so you have to watch your pay closely.

Barrie Transit is an “ok” place to work. The people are fine but the pay is too low and completely out of touch with the cost of living here. There’s no pension and the benefits aren’t that great. Not to mention you pay for a good chunk of them out of your already inadequate pay.

None of this is helped by a very weak union who seems to be so useless at fighting for our compensation, they’re probably paid to suppress it. (They once negotiated a contract for a nickel raise).

This job has a brutal work-life balance, especially at first. It’s really just not worth it. You make significantly less than almost any other city in Ontario with the same or lower cost of living there.

If you want a well paying job that you can settle into and save for your future, look elsewhere, this ain’t it.

The drivers and supervisors are great, I never had a problem with the union, there is bad and good in every company, you just have to do what’s in your work description, anything else doesn’t concern you, and have a positive attitude every day, I’ve read some really bad reviews it’s very sad, because I really enjoy my time driving at MVT.

The long days hours was the only thing I didn’t like, and sometimes being held responsible for accidents that you could not prevent.

Some of the workers are friendly, the union is always there to help you out.

Leaving it's a very toxic work environment

Showing up and dealing with drivers that can curse and swear at you with no repercussions

Alot of whining drivers using a CBA to their advantage and getting away with insubordination

The company pays very low compared to what the employees are expected to do. The benefits aren't terrible, but you do pay for them. Management is a joke , they only look out for themselves and they are always feuding with the union . You are expected to  go above abd beyond without any complaints. There is not much training or procedures in place for anything . More of a fly by the seat of your pants and we will figure out a resolution for the situation when it happens.

Modern facility in the south end of Barrie. Free employee parking and employee wifi on site. Close to home - saving a ton on gas. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, some of the drivers have been there for years. Great opportunity to be a part of the community. Multiple wage increases for drivers, etc scheduled for the next few years. Good benefits (medical, dental, extended health, life, disability, EAP, etc), RRSP match, tool allowance for mechanics, shoe allowance, uniforms provided for drivers and techs.

I stayed an extra day when i was supposed to be off to help with a major snowstorm and was promised overtime for the work. Instead i was told no overtime and because my manager told me to take an extra day off as thanks for all the help i wasent given my christmas bonus either. I went above and beyond to help my manager and the company and in return i got screwed

Great team - everyone is happy to help and answer questions especially when you're new. Great work life balance for office staff due to flexible working schedule. Fast paced environment in an almost 24/7 operation. Focus on employee engagement. GM is very approachable. Ideas from staff are welcome and given the opportunity to implement them. 

Management were very approachable. All the supervisors were willing to 
help whenever needed to assist in problem solving efforts. Most Drivers were lovely to socialize with.

Union reps could use some work on how to approach issues with management. Some yell at people instead of talking thinking it helps when it just makes them look like a fool.

Management is very picky about driving especially if you contact a pylon. They can look at that as a reason to terminate employment. Passengers are difficult and seem to not know how to take a bus. The new terminal has no food places around it so you will have to pack a lunch. Earliest start times are 5:00 and latest working is one in the morning.
