I was fortunate that my skills were very diversified so my job frequently changed.  I was able to fabricate, weld, assemble and assist maintenance.  Starting off I was welding on the line and worked my way into a different position.  I was able to learn a lot from this company and progress with my welding and fabricating skills.
  Supervisors can work with your schedule if you communicate with them but expect you to work your hours.  The workload isn't too much but can become tiring.  I always had 40 hours a week of work even during the slow times.

Management is full of cliques, unless you are well liked on a personal level there is no room for growth within the company. The owner  is a very nice man how ever Speaking to the employees that have been there 15+ years they have said the company has changed and does not hold the same values they once had. I have personally spoke to multiple women who have worked there and we all agree it is not a positive work atmosphere for women as we are not taken seriously, mocked, and made fun of.  HR lady seems to be very jealous of other women she will not help you out like her job requires of her.

Do not expect to be treated very well here, and expect to have completely unrealistic production times shoved down your throat. 
No room for advancement. 
Wages are only competitive after 7+ years of being with the company (if you can last that long)
Management is extremely toxic, do not speak up and voice your concerns.
Do not trust any employee with sensitive information, people love to talk and gossip throughout the shop.

great owner, good benefits and that’s about it! Poor manager and supervisor. Your skill level is of no importance they would rather get rid of a skilled worker and keep on an unskilled work to save money, lot of backstabbing workers so don’t disclose any info or try to make friends. Don’t expect to be able to tend to your family in times of need you will just get penalized for it. Unless you’ve been there 10 plus years your nothing to them they will drop you with out a thought even if there are others who should be let go first!

Very Team oriented. Strong company culture. Work close with each department

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in on time setupyour machine and produce parts to print

Acceptable work atmosphere amongs the employees however the management can be bullies if your a yes man and treat the long timers like their invincible. Altogether I do like them and I would refer the job to anyone looking for security. Ken Macdonald is an amazing person and respects his employees it’s too bad his appointed plant managers don’t do the same

There is a lot to learn working at Mac Donald Steel. A fast paced enviornment sets the stage for teamwork and long lasting group and individual sucsess. Lots of room for learning or honing exsisting skills with Robotics, CNC, various types of welding on an array of mild steel products.

Perform tasks assigned to me. I learned to work with different metals. Management - the owner of the company would make an effort to talk to all employees on a 1 on 1 basis. Co-workers were easy to get along with. Hardest part of the job was adjust to different procedures. Enjoyable part of the job was working on new products.

Great pay, solid training, and very welcoming to newer workers. 

Plenty of really experienced welders working there who are more than happy to share their knowledge. Communication with management can be obtuse at times, but overall if you're a confident worker you can thrive at MacDonald Steel.

The form to atended each worker is very professional. All the people are very friendly, the culture it focus olway make your work safety. In my experience work gear, the supervisor and  the owner of the company work hand to hand with all the employees in each proget
