Got hired post pandemic. The staff is absolutely amazing, everyone is hard working, incredibly friendly and all will stay post shift for a beer.

Unfortunately management doesn't have it's head on right. Every server was scheduled a max of 2-3 on call shifts every week with NO fixed shifts. Many servers were told to drop second jobs when coming out of quarentine, only to be scheduled for 15 hours weekly, and then most were called off for at least one, if not both of those shifts. Unless you were the owners girlfriend, he made sure she always had 5 or more shifts.

When you finally got to your shift on a sunny Saturday afternoon, you'd expect you would sell over 2 grand... But the sections are so overstaffed, servers only have 5-6 table sections. Again, unless you're the owners girlfriend, in which case she works mornings and has 10-12 tables.

The mornings are the best shifts. They keep their morning staff through the happy hour and dinner rush. These shifts are only given to the girlfriend and 2 other servers on the roster. This often means that if you have a 5pm shift, you would come in to a completely full section that the morning servers are responsible for, and they usually would get to keep the tables during the happy hour rush. They also often have tables sit and order/pay at the bar, only to then move them out to the patio. 5/8 shifts I worked, I had a full5 table section, 4 morning tables and one bar table that's paid for.  That would last through happy hour but get slightly better by 7pm.

Then to top off the ultimate unprofessionalism, I was fired two hours before my shift OVER TEXT, with no reason, no writeups, and no warnings. First time I have ever been fired in my career, and my last shift had ended with a manager stating how grateful he was to have me on the team. Only for them to not schedule me and then fire me over text instead of just waiting a couple hours for me to come in and sit down in person like I had requested.

 Do not work here, as far as I've heard, it was great management until the pandemic, and then owner ran it to the absolute ground. You'll make about $100 a shift but only have a shift once to twice a week.

Prior to closing down due to covid it was a great place to work. Management and staff all got on a really well, everyone was friends. Hours were divided fairly. 
Unfortunately once the place reopened after covid it was a very very different place to work. Previous management has all left. That alone says a lot about the type of place this is to work. The owner is now acting as GM and he hasn’t a clue. Prior to reopening I spoke with him regarding my position for summer. He told me how I’d be shift leader and that they would be willing to sponsor me. This was the only reason I returned to working there. Along with him there is another manager running the place and she very much has her favourites and if you are not one of them you can kiss goodbye to any shifts or good sections. The owner’s girlfriend gets 5 shifts every week never has to close and gets the best sections while everyone else is getting on call shifts. I went from being a full time employee for over a year to getting less that 2 shifts a week just because this new manager decided she didn’t like me. When I questioned this first of all I got no response from the owner. He fully believes in if I ignore the situation it will go away. When I questioned it again I got let go.  I had always been a loyal employee and used enjoy going to work when it was run by proper managers. Anyone who doesn’t fit into the managers click will get fired. For a number of other servers they just stopped rostering them on and fired them over text message. Highly unprofessional. Avoid!!!

from my experience of working in Mahony and sons I found the management are very respectful towards their staff. They take into great consideration of the well being of the staff. when it comes to time off I found they are very flexible and acknowledge we all have a life outside of work, they also do they best for everyone to try work around us and I think that's why we both have great respect for each other therefore take more pride in our work that it gets done correctly. The latest you could be there in the restaurant could be 1:30am which I found it difficult if I was opening the next morning , but they try their best to not let that happen very often. Work would be busy for the lunch hour and then again from 5pm till close , especially on Fridays and Saturdays as we would have a live band playing. The atmosphere in would always be cheerful. From my experience I found everybody helped each other even if we did have our own section. one rule we had was every table was your table and to help each other out as much as possible. I enjoyed learning a new culture of how Canadians dined out in Vancouver. I enjoyed how costumers were very understanding and friendly.

Was hired with a group of new servers post pandemic. At first things were good, however, the schedule started becoming more scarce. You’d be put on call for four shifts per week but only called in for one. 

The employees there are very kind, however the owner’s girlfriend who also works as a server was aggressive and verbally abusive, leading to a vey hostile and stressful environment. 

I was not scheduled for a week, and inquired with the manager. It took three full days for them to respond and inform me I was let go, without notice or proper explanation. I’ve never had this type of treatment from an employer before. 

Tips were good if you were lucky enough to get a shift where it’s sunny and the management gave you a decent section, which is very rare.

A typical day at work required stocking the materials we need for the day, and following that would be a rush at lunch and dinner. During the Summer, the pace picks up and never slows down until 10:30pm. What I learned was multitasking and learning about a lot of material in a short time. Management was so-so at best, there is strict hierarchy and a little bit of politics involved. Hardest part about the job is staying focused in a rush, where everyone rushes everyone else. The most enjoyable part about the job is the people, everyone knew everyone, it was a great place to work in terms of co-workers.

A typical shift in evening is surrounded with good music, helpful and enthusiastic manager on the floor, amazing and my favorite lava cake in break(40%off), comfortable work environment,learning new languages,full of joy as well as professionalism in times of work., plus good tips

Mahony feels like a family; we experience some challenging times, and it can get quite busy, but overall, it is a wonderful place.
Management expects the best, so we need to pay close attention to details to meet their expectations.

If you are the kind of person who works hard to achieve things Mahony & Sons is the right fit for you. You might start from the bottom but with time and effort you may see yourself in a supervisor roll.

I learned here how I should be quick and precise in the kitchen in any ways. Even though every work places has to be team, I think kitchen especially has to be Team. I think teamwork can make the kitchen the best.
