Mariposa Dairy makes great cheese and has some fantastic people working there who really care about doing a good job and improving their workplace.  The owner cares a lot about the business and regularly invests in improvement and expansion, but the rapid growth has led to growing pains, especially on the plant floor, as the company is still transitioning from a small to medium-sized business.

Change can be difficult to propagate on the plant floor and the communication between the office and plant workers is sometimes a stumbling point.  There are opportunities to acquire additional skills or to move between departments, but less focus on growing beyond your role.  Pay and benefits are pretty good for the area.

Flexibility of hours is critical since QA starts at 4:30am on morning shift and shifts can often run longer than 8hrs.  There are a lot of day-to-day responsibilities to keep track of as well as everyday issues to resolve, and a lot of decisions rely on your good judgment.  This is a good role for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and keeping busy-- there is always work to do!  You will need to communicate with your teammates frequently and consistently, especially between shifts, but the team is fantastic and is one of the things I will miss the most about the job.

The pay is fair, as you’ll make more hourly than most entry level jobs in the area. Just shy of 20 dollars an hour. This seems to be the only pro of working at the dairy unfortunately. The culture is combative and aggressive, and is definitely geared towards placing blame rather than teaching and training. There was absolutely no training and you will be thrown into positions without warning or direction, as to how to do the job . I was very disappointed in the fact that complaints that go to the HR are talked about and leaked from supervisors pretty openly. So making a complaint to HR will always do more harm than good. Many people have been let go for uncertain reasons one instance of an employee being let go several months before retirement. There is a lot of uncertainty with the remaining employees as most of the people let go were senior members with the most experience. If you are looking for some better than minimum wage pay checks temporarily I would recommend it. But as for long term, there might be better work environments in the area. 

Mariposa is a very unprofessional place to work. It's almost like being back in high school not just your coworkers, but also management. The company tries to sound professional and understanding, but it's just a popularity contest. Scheduling makes no sense, management is constantly putting unnecessary pressure on employees, and you can't trust anyone. I honestly have no idea how this company makes money because of how many corners they cut and how much rework they do with their products. The moral is low, the turn over rate is high, and employees don't feel appreciated. Also the training is next to none; theyre hiring people with little to no training provided by Employers and expecting regular workers to train. If you do work here my best advice is to keep your head down, mind your own business, make your money, and find something better. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Not a good experience for me at all. Poor management and to many of them. Safety seems to be hit and miss where any Safety project that requires any type of high funding is put on hold to use that money elsewhere. There were some good things like free coffee and and every second Friday off during the summer but not enough to make my experience a good one. I wish them all the best but it wasn't for me. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor management and knowing what mode your manager was in that day and knowing that you're being talked about behind your back.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I feel the the workers are pushed to there limits everyday and expecting more and more from them.

You will get different experiences depending on where you work. If you are floor staff, you may be sheltered from alot of the gossip and drama that happens with the management/supervisory staff. Management is extremely unorganized and unqualified for their positions (lacking managerial skills). Many food safety and personal safety concerns go unanswered depending on who is bringing them up. You also risk being ostracized if you are the one with an unpopular opinion. As a manager, you are expected to tow the line, not come up with solutions as a critical thinker. HR is the worst culprit for unprofessional behavior and come across like school yard bullies. 
There is a very low level of talent retainment, it is not a priority. If you work here, you will always feel replaceable. 

Lots of bullying & pressure, Threats are used and Coworkers are used to push, as well. Safety standards are below par. nothing is done until an accident or 3 occur. Areas that pose hazards are not addressed and when substandard equipment is brought to the attention it is also not addressed. Protective gear is unavailable and not obtained when asked for. Gloves, cheese, and other materials are stepped over instead of being removed. Job planning is done by the employees and then yelled at when we are talking about what to do, and how to complete the job. Very little orientation is done and one Supervisor needs to take a “how to instruct employees” seminar.

Always a lot to do. It is fast paced but I found that turnover is very high. Some of management have never done the front line work and do not understand anything except numbers. Some management cannot relate to what the worker is going through at all due to lack of experience in the job assigned. 

Mariposa Dairy is like a family. They care about their employees and the community. 

It's very exciting to witness the growth first hand. Not only are they expanding the facility, but they are avidly making improvements to internal systems to improve the employee experience. 

If you are looking for a company to grow with, Mariposa Dairy is the one! I can't count the number of individuals I have met that came from the production floor and are now in leadership, maintenance, HR, quality, shipping, and sales roles. 

There really is a focus on team member growth! 

Work was pretty simple, come in and make sure full skids were put away, make plates, count product. Best part is the thorough training but hardest is juggling all the people who pass off their job and the weird work notes from management. Barely present management but when they do appear they leave notes like “lacks enthusiasm” even when you volunteer for everything. The lack of direction and weaponizing of the complaints system makes the place very hard to around. Great work, hard to deal with people. 

Your job will never be secure here. Employees  tried to unionize the place before and management fired the people they knew were pro-union. They’re trying to unionize it again and they’re firing everyone again. Absolute 0 job security. They are dreadfully unorganized, then they blame you for things that aren’t even your fault. The supervisors don’t put a stop to the bullying that they know is happening. Production supervisors in particular gossip with the employees. Your “confidential” conversation with your superior is NEVER confidential. The pay is decent and the coworkers are nice but that’s the only good thing about it.
