Marquise

Marquise a contracted company that caters to what YVR wants. The customer service department has different positions all around the airport from the USA  and Canada customs hall to the information counters pre security and everything in between.

A typical day would start off by clocking in at least 8 mins before your shift so that you could start on time at your position.
If the shift is 8 hours you get two 30 min breaks, if it's anything less than 2 hours, you get one 30 min break.

I have learnt a lot about how to cater to the different needs of all kinds of passengers that come here from around the world.

Management has gotten better as some supervisors used to be power driven by picking at the smallest things, but it has gotten better.
Management sometimes makes a lot of promises that they don't follow through with.

Co-workers are great humble people to work with.
Hardest part about the job is that sometimes the more you devote yourself, the more they ask of you with out very much appreciation.

Most enjoyable part is being able to help people and work in a nice clean environment at the airport.

Labor force made 80% Filipino immigrants. Salaies just above minimum wage. Company is forcing part time and on-call  work in order to skip paid benefits. Langauage mostly used is Tagalog and other Filipino version of it. No respect towards people because there is a steady number of Filipino immigrants that Filipino site managers hire on site. Hard for other nationalities to get job in this company. On ine hand it is good because it is just waste of time to work for minimum wage. Useless coworkers. If you wirk here as immigrant you will never getva chance ti learn about Canadian eay if life and also you will never learn English or Tagalog. No salary raise. No gifts for Christmas as other companies do. If any it is very very cheap. Site managers are useless.

Working for Marquise is very diverse. Shifts are random and can be assigned to lonely positions, LOTS of walking to the the whole airport, and STRESSFUL. You'll get a lot of complain and the concierge are very picky to what you do and how you look. This job you need to be fake to yourself, you might want to get a plastic surgery and get lips lifted so you will look like you're smiling or maybe put a thick lipstick and make yourself look like a clown. It is very high expectation to a low pay and not everyone gets benefits, they keep hiring people so even they hire you full time, you only get 3-4 shifts a week. Also, even other workers from Marquise that is now called Carillion hates their job and will tell you to not stay in the job because it really sucks overall.

work started at 7.00am and finished at 3.00pm I learned alot about cleaning, management was fine co-workers were excellent the hardest part of the job is the continually cleaning of elevators stairs glass windows and sweeping around the building then going into the food court in the afternoon to continue more cleaning the most enjoyable part of the job was being able to work at your own pace somewhat.

getting more responsibility but salary is not enough too little for what we did.getting along with co-workers is no a problem and approaching our shift manager and supervisors are not a problem but the higher management that really makes us very upset for he has not compassion and consideration

There is no security in any position. The rate of pay is poor, and the benefit requirements are ridiculous.  Laundry should be paid more than heavy duty. I broke my back for two years, to be paid $15/hr. Laundry shift also falls short of fulltime benefits, but harder job.

Marquise Company is a grate place to work. It gives me the opportunity to meet new people and learn different things every day. I am proud to be a part of the this team.

Very organizided place to work.
Daily tasks are very clear and easy to learn.
There are too many things to do in one shift. It makes the job very hard.
Friendly envoiroment.

as a customer service agent in airport, you will helping passengers at each screening point makes security goes smoothly,  answering/ listening to what passengers needs/questions.
