I once worked from 9 am to 10 pm (13 hours, which is the legal limit according to Ontario labour laws, obviously unpaid and no time off in lieu) on a Friday evening before a long weekend in order to get an accrual done for month end reporting that I received late in the day. The next business day, instead of any appreciation, I get an email saying, I quote, "A lot of time spent on X resulted in no change really to the accrual from Friday...You need to manage your time better...I am not sure you understand the importance of month end/quarter end. You advised you worked on X until 10:00 Friday. Thank you. But A, B, and I stay up until 1:00 am and beyond usually the last three day of the month and for the first and second day of the new month to ensure things get completed by the due date...you will need to improve."

First, this is against labour laws as an employer is required to give 8 hours off after 13 consecutive hours at work in a 24 hour period (ironic a insurance brokerage would put itself in a position of legal liability by putting in writing that they are breaking the law). Secondly, the person is exaggerating and/or lying because there were VERY FEW days where anyone worked until 1 am. On that day I was the last person to leave (well after they have left) and this did not happen most month ends. Third, if someone was taking month end lightly, why would they work until 10 pm unpaid overtime?

This is just one of many such incidents. For a company to claim that they have to continuously work until 1 am the last 3 days before month end means either it is inefficient or understaffed. But not only that, the work is unpaid and you can't accrue vacation time either. Only an idiot would work under such conditions.

After that incident, I immediately began looking for another job.

Your daily job is way over your job description, be prepared to work long hours with no compensation. Don't expect support from management at all. As a new hire you are expected to know your job right off the bat. If you ask for assistance for escalation, the only advice given is "you need to manage it yourself its the job." Be prepare to have ton of anxiety and stress. 

Even when you ask for guidance you get condescending responses and belittling your worth. On holidays or your day off you are still expected to work. 

The company promotes a "healthy" work life balance but rather the management and higher ups stresses you out, piles on more work to you. Your life gets consumed with just work that it created anxiety.  

I enjoyed working at Marsh, the team was great, my typical day at work included making travel arrangements for engineers traveling to mines across the globe, formatting and editing engineering reports, creating draft binders, binders, and invoices and emailing them to brokers and clients for signatures and approvals.

Management was good, I could have used more training with the data entry software, my co-workers were very helpful and friendly.

The hardest part of the job was ensuring that binders and invoices went out quickly and correctly.

The most enjoyable part of the job was learning about the ins and outs of the insurance industry, and about the companies and facilities we insured.

A typical day does not always reflect what’s listed in the original job description - often involves a mixture of routine tasks and unexpected requests and occurrences.

I've learned to deal with very difficulty personalities within the office and outside.  

Managers work very hard to reduce stress in the workplace by creating a healthy a healthy environment - departmental lunches and other activities for team building.


When staff are rude, impatient, unreasonable, or downright explosive.

To get noticed for all the amazing, crucial work done by myself or the team.

- Late nights
- I learned to help organize big events, and watch over younger kids
- management was my leadership teacher, and principal and they left us alone because they knew we could handle the kids.
- my co-workers were peers, and we all got along very well
- the hardest part of the job was rounding up children and making them listen and co-operate, and trying to finish setting up for the festival with so little time
- most enjoyable part was seeing that both events turned out to be a success.

Cons

Management is very strict and prefers micro managing
No work life balance as management expects you to work at least 10-11 hours every day
Working from home is not encouraged by the management
Work flow is very old school and management do no encourage new changes
Management do not acknowledge or appreciate despite working hard
Working atmosphere is very stressful and fearful
There is no process in place to provide feedback to its employees

"The greater the good" It is highly diverse, very inclusive, promotes leadership, is environmentally responsible, and allows work flexibility

It varies, some time is busy but habitual, other days are challenging and fulfilling, and there are regular days

I am new on the job still however the whole process has been great so far: from interviews to on-boarding and training. Great team to work with and love the company culture. Loving the Montreal office location and hybrid work environment so far. Compensation is very good. Excited for more to come.

Company does not pay well, was making just over minimum wage and doing much more work than I was being paid for. Pretty much next to impossibly to get hired of contract. No benefits of any kind. Very chaotic work environment. Very unprofessional and gossip based. If I could go back I would never work for a company like this ever again 

Great managers, ability to cross train and learn other jobs, co workers are the standard, some nice some not so nice. most enjoyable is being paid for statutory holidays, staff pot lucks. it takes a number of years before you're able to move up. the pay is just above minimum wage. However you know what they say its better to have bad pay and a great manager than good pay and a terrible manager.
