A typical day involved responding to frequent breakdowns, but the work was often more mechanical than electrical. Much of the time was spent assisting with general maintenance tasks rather than performing skilled electrical troubleshooting or working with control systems. There was limited structured preventive maintenance, and most work was reactive.
Management expectations were not always clearly aligned with the electrician role. There seemed to be a stronger focus on keeping production running by any means necessary, rather than utilizing tradespeople in their specialized areas. Communication could be inconsistent at times.
The workplace culture felt more production-driven than maintenance-focused. Electricians were often expected to take on tasks outside their trade. While some team members were supportive, the overall structure did not strongly promote skill development or role clarity.
The most challenging part was the lack of role definition. As an electrician, being regularly assigned non-electrical tasks made it difficult to apply and grow technical skills. It could also be frustrating when trying to troubleshoot issues without proper focus on electrical systems.
Working with some of the team members was a positive experience, and there were occasional opportunities to troubleshoot equipment issues. Those moments provided some engagement, but they were limited compared to the overall workload

As an afternoon shift quality specialist I spent a significant part of my day responding to requests for support from production teams at 4 separate facilities as well as responding to customer concerns. The rest of my day was spent working on allocated work plans including  gauge calibration and repair, material testing(salt spray immersion and micro analysis for hot stamping), mig weld/spot weld testing, layered process audits, creating work flow documents, and training and development of production employees in quality inspection. My job allowed me to work with every department which gave me a unique perspective on how the overall teams come together to form a larger, integral yet more cohesive team.  The hardest part of my job was always balancing the immediate needs of the day while still completing work plans to a set timeline. The most enjoyable part of the job, as always, was getting to know so many of my co-workers on a personal level. Rising to meet the challenges of the job  gave me valuable experience about performing at a high level in a stressful job and gave me insight into myself as an ever evolving employee and as a person.

Worked for Marwood plant 5 in Woodstock for just over a year as a team leader. The pay is fair and benefits are okay. Aside from that there is nothing good I can say about this specific plant. 

During my interview they said there was no mandatory overtime, lied and I had to work every Saturday for the first 10 months. Post covid they switched to 4 ten hour shifts and still make you work 8 hours OT on the Friday and try to guilt you into Saturday. 
Revolving door for manpower. The good people leave because Marwood demands you to do the work of two or 3 people and give up your weekends. They can’t keep people so they hire in scab workers with no covid precautions being enforced. I’ve counted 40 people in the small lunch room at a time that Is supposed to only have 18. 
When you apply and are awarded a different position you’ll have to wait at least 8 months before they move you to the new position.
When you need HR assistance you have to call Tillsonburg because the Woodstock plant doesn’t have an HR person. But when you call no one answers the phone or returns calls.

I suggest you don’t waste your time at the Woodstock plant, I can’t speak for Tillsonburg factories but I heard they are a lot better to work at.

Marwood is always adapting and changing to meet the needs of the Automotive Industry. Like any workplace you have your pros and cons.  If you come to work with a good attitude and a work ethic you will have no issues. If you come to work thinking you are owed everything because of how long you have been there or just because you exist you will never realize your goals. 

It is very easy to get sucked into working all the OT available which can lead to a poor work life balance but you just have to learn the word “No” and be respectful about it.

Plant 5 GM is the best boss I’ve ever had! He isn’t perfect but he is fair, understanding (take the time to talk to him about issues), and a wealth of knowledge! I have learned so much from him and continue to do so.

There are a lot worse places to work and remember the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

If you work hard you can move up! I started on the floor over 4 years ago and have since been promoted twice, have been sent to other Plants to assist with startups and continue to add tools to my toolbox.

Quite possibly the worst place you could choose to work. A thick layer of underlying incompetence is covered over by a superiority complex attitude from those in charge. Temp workers are treated as and are an expendable commodity. It's considered a fast-paced environment but this is courtesy of improperly made, mixed up or mislabeled parts, forklift drivers that can't keep up to supplying parts for the welding cells or keep up to the pace of production at some cell that causes chaos. This will often see production associates either cease production or constantly handling the same parts numerous times as they have to keep producing despite a lack of a fixture or pallet into which to place completed parts due to disorganization within the plant along with maintenance guys chatting up the female production associates when there are mechanical or robotic issues. The best way to describe this operation is that it is rampant with nepotism, cronyism, ineptitude, duplicity and egotism.

I would have never taken the job if I knew what I went through and I regret working at Maywood won’t recommend anyone to work in Marwood as they try to put you as low as possible so you can’t move anywhere else. Very horrible place to work!!! A lot of favouritism, Unfair treatment, Unfair decision, Unfair pay and they don’t care about Temporary employees. Management does nothing if you have a problem. By mistake if you want to get hired on as Marwood employee than forget about it, it will take years and years to hired on, you will keep bugging them but never receive any communication from them. The plant Manager does nothing except firing people. Firing people is in trend at this place. Management should get trained to solve these matters. You can’t talk to anyone; you can’t have a proper lunch and break time. You have to get out of the cafeteria 3 min. before of your actually lunch timings.

Marwood isn't too bad of a place to work but certainly not a place I'd recommend unless you happen to live in the London/Woodstock/St. Thomas/Tillsonburg area. 

The type of work here is decent and complex enough that requires brain power. The pay has also increased reasonably over the years. The benefits are also fair.

HR at Marwood is bizarre. They will be responsive initially then completely cut you off cold turkey as if you don't even speak English anymore. Honestly, I don't even know what they do but its incredibly unprofessional. Management is average and the shifts are typical. 

Marwood is however a bit of a revolving door which is a red flag. They are constantly hiring mainly because HR doesn't know how to hire people.

Overall not a horrific place, but not worth working at unless you're desperate and already live in the area.





What is the best part of working at the company?
4 day work weeks. Everything else sucks

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Knowing how unfairly you get treated from a supervisor and a team leader. Always angry and everything i did was wrong. Hitting the hourly rates  was impossible the way some machines run and then they come angry at me and tell me I'm to slow.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Don't ever work at Marwood. The place is worse than terrible the way certain people get treated and you'll find something better.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You leave completely exhausted, carrying the stress home with you. Instead of feeling a sense of accomplishment, you just feel relief that the day is over.
Time moves painfully slowly, waiting for the hours to pass.

Marwood is very unappreciative of the work that you do for them.  They just expect more and more and give nothing in return. The job is brutally damaging on your body so if you plan on living past 60 get out while you can or don't even go their.  You are required to work 48 hrs plus per week, up to 70 hrs if you volunteer and they don't care how much it affects you.  They have no consideration for their employees.  No one follows any policies and their are no consequesnces, they just make them up as they go along.  There is much favouritism.  Management has no clue as to what they are doing.  Masks are not even required through COVID-19 which shows that they don't really care about the employees. One of the worst jobs I have ever had.

If i knew the  lack of health and safety concern was as bad as it is, i would never have applied. The risk of injury working here is very high. No pedestrian walk ways, no room for forklifts to do their job without risk of hitting someone. The system with which they use to give raises is very flawed, to the point that its very difficult to get one. There is a reason the starting wage is what it is for material handlers, it is do to the fact they cant keep anyone. Majority of production workers are temps and immigrants who dont understand the safe working relationship with forklifts. They also claim that telling their production staff at town halls and morning shift huddles to watch out for forklifts is "considered training."
