I’ve worked at matrix for 8+ years now. The first 5 years of my employment I picked/drove a walkie and had a rare opportunity once in a while to assist with loading, receiving, fresh and frozen(when it existed at dc20). I only had opportunity to move up from picking/case selector once all of the automation had come in. I will say that this company has done a tremendous job at weeding out most of the inappropriate managers/TLs and team members. There’s little drama if you stick to your function and actually work. 

Communication is matrix’s biggest downfall, or has been. There have been vast improvements surrounding this warehouse and communication but there are also subjects/topics that are ignored or not discussed. As a team member I’ve trained many Team leaders in my department to help them be familiarized with a general understanding of the department and it’s unfortunate to say but not one of them has taken pride in managing/delegating work in a fair and consistent manner. You will be forgotten about if you do not make yourself known. If you’re a work horse and have good work ethic you can go far if you voice your skill set and desire though. 

There was a huge influx of FATL, TL, operations manager positions when the automation came in. However, Advancement within the company is probably going to be slowing down and you’ll likely be in your role as a team member for a long time.

Training is incredibly fair in my opinion and this company has taken steps in the right direction to make sure that suitable people(trainers) are actually training new hires. There’s in class/practical training before you get hands on. You’re given days(if needed) to familiarize yourself with the MHE that you’re being trained on.

Top wage is 27.50 which is alright for warehousing. Benefits are paid for by the company and actually cover quite a bit.

At the end of the day, it’s a warehouse.  It’s gray, yellow and not overly engaging but definitely better than factory work.

As an organization it is a wonder how this company continues to operate. Once working there you will understand why there is such a high turnover rate. The morale amongst the workforce is non existent, there is no meritocracy, senior staff entitled and protected by “seniority” and the 3pl model means they are constantly looking to find cheapest ways to service the customer but at the expense of the staff. Fast paced environment, on your feet most of the day, cleaning up errors made my others, “working the employees harder”, leads to a toxic culture and often times never meeting the targets set by upper management. Have seen countless Safety violations and bad practices being allowed to cut corners and workplace injuries are commonplace. As management they are not proactive, have no people skills, are totally disconnected from the actual job and are more concerned with sounding and appearing  smart than coming up with actual beneficial solutions. Instead reactionary solutions are created that make the job harder not easier. Under-qualified management make it a headache to get things done properly and are adverse to suggestions or process optimization not coming from the executive level. Ops Managers have less qualifications than the entry level supervisors and some are technologically and quite frankly generally illiterate, having been promoted because of seniority. Pay + bonus/benefits = industry average but not worth the headache of working for this inept company. Terrible experience and the only positive would be there are a few nice people who make the job tolerable at first.  Avoid at all costs! If you can get hired here there are other options in the area for more pay and less stress. Keep looking! 

When I got hired here before, they just fired a bunch of HRs and recently hired new ones so most of them won't even know what they're doing or they'll know what they're doing but they won't care about your well-being that much. In most companies, if you get injured/accident, you have to tell either your team lead or manager right away and quickly take care of you (maybe they'll bring a first aid kit or call emergency). In this company, if you get just a minor injury/accident and tell your manager about it, they will look at you or handle the situation like it's your fault and will ask for a reason why you did it and they will find all the reasons or possibilities on what you did wrong / they are willing to take your badge (and they will tell you that you're not allowed to work until they call you) while they 'investigate' what happened even though it was just an accident. 

Oh and when I got hired it also seems like they hired a new health and safety person that all the person does is interogate you and not actually care about your well-being. I think the whole management doesn't care about your whole well-being. They claim to be a great company, but lacks care for their regular employees.

I mean, why would they care if they can just fire you and hire a new one that's willing to work for the same amount of hours and hourly rate. Workers need more dignity with their work. Management should care more.

The team members at this location are incredibly supportive and always ready to lend a hand when needed. Their positive attitude and willingness to assist create a welcoming and collaborative environment. Whether it's helping a colleague with a task or guiding a customer through a problem, they consistently go above and beyond. However, the pace can quickly change during peak hours. As the volume of customers increases, the atmosphere becomes more fast-paced and intense. Everyone is working diligently to manage the workload and ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently. The busy periods demand strong teamwork and quick decision-making, which the staff handles with professionalism. Despite the challenges of peak hours, the supportive nature of the team shines through, making even the busiest shifts more manageable. This dedication to helping one another ensures smooth operations and high-quality service.

Let them teach you how to be confident with machine and quickly master the process...Learn faster. You will enjoy, people love politics, girl talks, enjoying bit of life, we are not robots. Heeee yoh TLs,
Management; They let down workers with unrational rating level of numbers in % you have to maintain  100%, it's manageable though it's stressful, mental draining and working with Fear sometimes, there is  need to come up with another way of measuring productivity? PLEASE people are suffering in silent.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very clean, and organized environment. The company clearly cares about their employees and the overall mood of the warehouse reflects that. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Keeping their mandatory attendance rate in good standing. Also dealing with a lot of new Canadian immigrants who apply to work, but can’t because of the language barrier 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In the warehouse, it’s refreshing and fun. In the HR office, it can be a bit hostile. There seems to be an issue with keeping staff…major HR management issues there.

Work here for a year in pm shift, it was all good when suddenly the new management shows up , everything was costcut , the jobs make it more harder. Some TL are rude and has no respect during daily meetings. Some people are great but cannot recommend to trust them . Alotta lifers ans cry babies. full benefit after a year . Seniority system sucks you can only advance if you're a TL's favorite. Some employees are toxic and harrassed you .  They have very unfair treatment to some employees. HR doesnt listen to you at all. Work is repetitive and you must meet a performance %. The only good thing here is pay and lot of events.

Worked 2 years solo with assist from management and learned so much. New manager after 2 years, stifled me and there was no more learning opportunities. Management couldn't make decisions therefore much did not get done that could have and what did, was done by the seat of our pants due to their inability to make decisions. The hardest part of the day was dealing with the office bullies, two of the most recent additions to the H.R. team. Thank goodness I had two older staff members for support. The best part of the job was all the great operational workers who appreciated everything. 

typical day at matrix would be signing out the walkie, going to the everyday morning meeting to see what our duties were for the day, then i would pick up my product enter the barcode numbers and quantity numbers vocally into my vocolect, i would select the boxes and put the product on a location skid where my vocolect told me to put it, i would confirm location by saying the varification number, place the product and move onto the next location. i worked for matrix for a year and a half for their seasonal warehouse.

A typical day at work would be me answering phone calls, because of my position as a receptionist, and receiving and delivering messages. I learned how to improve my communication and vocabulary skills due to me continuously answering phone calls everyday. My relationship with management and my co-worker was fantastic. We continued to converse with each other and have a very friendly relationship. I didn't find anything about my position here to be difficult. I had a lovely stay with this company overall.
