How can I put this nicely? You are constantly stressed out working at this firm. There are huge staff shortages and management expects you to work for too many lawyers.

For a firm that prides itself on "culture", it’s ridiculous. The environment is cold.  The lawyers ignore you on a continual basis unless they need something. 

They completely flipped the switch on their employees and demanded an in office presence of 4 days a week. That is why there is such a high turnover rate. The employees are miserable going into the office 4 days a week and management doesn't care.

Leading law firm that recognizes their strength is not just their lawyers but also their support staff. Well prepared for the pandemic and great care for the mental well-being of all of their people. Diversity and inclusion are not just words but are practiced daily. 
Work at times is heavy but teammates are there to help share the load and support each other both within your office and across the firm. 
Management within our department truly care about their teams.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing. But there were a few good people that made the 'culture' somewhat bearable.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of leadership, transparency, direction, communication. The list goes on. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I have worked for a few other high level corporate law firms at a global, national and local position. I have never experienced  a more toxic and degrading work environment. As for culture, there is none.

- not so great IT management (TOO much micro-management)
- hardest part of my job was that I was capable of doing much more but using almost none of my potential.

Assistant to one of McCarthy’s Senior Partners in the Business Law Department of the firm as well as various associates.  Creating and editing a variety of agreements, letters to clients, memos and other pertinent documentation, employing Carpe Diem electronic docketing system to enter client billing as well as participate in various secretarial duties applicable to a large law firm.

I learnt how to use their document management system, scan documents to the document management system. how to mail out letters, edit letters. The work place culture was amazing everyone was friendly and supportive. The management was very helpful and friendly and wanted the staff to grow.

McCarthy requires a lot from you as an employee however they ensure that you are well taken care of. The salary and benefits are impressive as well as the job perks. The culture is not as competitive or unfriendly as other law firms, and everyone there is very nice. If you are willing to put in the work then you will enjoy it very much.

McTet was very good to me over the 33 years of employment.  My Manager was helpful and compassionate, and the firm overall was a great place to work.  Training was provided for many new procedures, computer software.

The Vancouver office is not a good office to work for as a Legal Assistant. The manager doesn't want you to advance and only does what is best for them. Their Return to Office program is quite toxic and there is no real work culture even though they say the firm depends on it.
