I made a career change to insurance. I came from a health care background, and took an interview for reception. I came in to that interview not really expecting a lot.  Boy, I was wrong!
To my surprise, I was greeted by a Human Resources staff member and my potential manager. They asked me about myself and asked me questions based on my experience. They even allowed me the opportunity to ask them questions about their experience at McDougall. I felt an instant connection with both of them. I received an offer and I began my journey into insurance!
 They invested in me and provided me with the training and licensing I needed to become a licensed insurance broker.
 I completed my Registered Insurance Broker of Ontario course and have been working as a Personal Lines Account Manager for over a year now.  

McDougall Insurance is very generous and always does nice things for staff, we have staff appreciation days, game weeks, free lunches etc. We also get great bonus at Christmas!
Everyone knows who everyone is, and it's really like a giant family.
Our CEO/President/Vice President/Managers/HR know who you are and take the time to say hello, and are involved in all staff events.
I know this might sound to good to be true, but I assure you it's not.  McDougall Insurance is where it is at! You will not be disappointed!

Management are the root of McDougall Insurance's problems. Managers in positions that they should not be in, and not listening, working with, or collaborating with employees. Manager went 6 months without speaking to new employee. Doesn't assist with any issues - for client complaints, they will push the issue back on you.

No help, no "management" whatsoever. Culture has regressed in the last 3-4 years. A company that was at one time enjoyable to work at and sought after as a place to work has become somewhere that employee turnover occurs almost monthly. There is no type of education for employees other than basic training the first week, then regular RIBO training provided by carriers. 

Additionally, there is little to no opportunity for advancement. CSRs will NOT become salespeople, except for very few exceptions. Absolutely would not suggest working here unless you enjoy waking up to go to a job that you hate. I wish there was an option below 1 star. 

Such a dynamic, fantastic and supportive place to work!!  Everyone is trained to work the same way.  Clients are treated with respect and dignity as well as staff.  I am a believer that if you take care of your staff, your staff will take care of you.  McDougall insurance certainly cares and goes out of their way to support them.  Obviously if you are the type looking for a job where you can call in sick all the time, not follow work flow, or simply do not care, this is NOT for you.  It is a fast paste environment but also a rewarding one.  It has it's perks and it's challenges.  If you are up for the challenge, you will not be disappointed.  Best brokerage I have worked for by far!!!!

When the world was going on lock down due to Covid-19, we had several meetings with our CEO and president who kept us in the loop and comforted us that no one was going to lose their job.  They were extremely supportive in our time of need.  

McDougall Insurance invests in its employees from day one, making everyone feel valued and supported, even if you're new to the industry. Everything from management and the training department to onboarding manuals and workflow systems is well-organized and effective. The training team keeps you up to date on industry changes and offers outstanding support when you need help. Even after a year, I'm still impressed. McDougall sets you up for success, and you feel confident, appreciated, and empowered. I only wish I’d started my career here sooner!

A typical day at work was a lot of clients walking in to make payments or had questions about their insurance.  I learned a lot from the staff there and learned a new computer software.  This was only a seasonal job, from May to October.  The workplace was very pleasant.  There really was no hard part about the job, everyone was so helpful and accommodating.  Most enjoyable part of the job, were all the perks and McDougall Days!  This was done just for the summer months, where local companies would participate and give something free every Friday to those that are insured with McDougall Financial!  Good company to work for.

This is a good company to start with but do not expect growth or good pay for what you are doing. They severely underpay their staff....compared to a living wage it is pitiful. The workload is also extremely stressful, and since they are severely understaffed you will be doing way more than expected of you. 
Some staff nice, some toxic like any workplace. But expect overwhelmingly fake attitudes from corporate. They hype themselves up as the best but it is just a facade sadly

I've really enjoyed my time here. The atmosphere is supportive and everyone is willing to help, and there's a real sense of teamwork. What stands out most is that you truly get what you put into it. If you’re motivated, proactive, and willing to learn, there’s a lot of opportunity to grow and succeed. Leadership is approachable, and the overall culture makes it easy to feel comfortable asking questions or sharing ideas. I genuinely look forward to coming to work each day.

Working at McDougall is the best choice I ever made. I was use to entry-level jobs I would apply for in order to pay the bills. But I applied to McDougall after hearing such great things, they invested so much time and money into making me a great Customer Service Representative and now I have a Monday-Friday full time job that pays well and I am confident in. 

Very relieved that I finally found a career that I can grow in, and have made plenty of work friends thanks to all the engaging staff events.

I learned an immense amount of knowledge using multi-line phones, scanning courier into their system (which I hadn't seen before working here). 

Overall, I loved the position here, and the people that were in the office. It just wasn't in my line of interest to continue and apply for the permanent position because it requires a Broker's License just of which I am not interested in pursuing at the moment!
