I was let go and given no reason for this. I had my review two weeks prior and was informed by HR Manager, they had no issues with my performance thus far. I mentioned that the transfer drivers who trained me were constantly distracted driving. Dispatch has an expectation that you respond to dispatch emails promptly. These people are in the funeral business and are ok with allowing their employees to willfully put themselves and others in harms way!! I was almost ran into the back of a dump truck because of the trainer texting with his daughter!! I am certain that me mentioning these very real issues caused some feathers to ruffle amongst the management team, as they only care about themselves. I was employed for three months and the day I was let go was the second conversation that my direct manager had with me. They are a culture of arrogance and selfishness. The worst set up of a management team I have ever worked for. They do NOT inform you of the duties required as a transfer driver. They are very secretive about the fact you need to be hands on with the deceased. Very hands on. you DO NOT just pick up and drop off closed caskets. Had I been aware of the culture, I would have never accepted this position. It is an absolute disgrace to now know the inner workings of the funeral industry. Especially at McInnis and Holloway. I recommend NOBODY EVER take employment with these out of touch people. On the good side, some of the employees were awesome and I did meet a couple really great people.

You never know if it is going to be your last day or if you're gonna be yelled at. Poor management. If you need something from them, it takes them days to get back to you, but will hunt you down if you did something wrong. It could be the littlest thing. No praise for the 100 things you did do right. 

They do not care about your well being, your families or that you have a life outside of work.

FYI M&H: If they want to keep good, loyal? Hard working people who will be dedicated and work hard for you clients and give ypur business a good name, who will make this place great?  You can't treat them like they're disposable for being human and having compassion for others nor should you treat them like criminals  from the hop and anticipating they are going to fail. 
People in this business have some of the hardest things to ever face in life. This job is not everyone and yet you have people who want to provide respect and dignity in death and a place for people to grieve the loss of a loved one . You need to take care of them and provide dignity and respect your employees. Do better!

They have no protocols in place when it come removing biological waste safely. All goes into the landfill or down the drain. Long hours so you don't always get your break and if you take them and don't get your list done, you're questioned. Beware.

Their training is fantastic, but management and workplace culture is abusive, manipulative & mentally/emotionally crippling. Learn what you need & then get out while you can. The staff turnover is horrendous. I felt I was paid accordingly and fairly with my experience and education but saw the impact in other departments who were underpaid/treated poorly. 
Their idea of work/life balance is truly non-existent. You will be told you have a set number of evenings to work (P/V Nights) but you are expected to stay late on any given day at the needs of a family. No compromise possible - doesn’t matter if it isn’t your evening to work or if you have plans with your loved ones, or are grieving the loss of your own loved one. Their business comes first. 
The first red flag was day one - being introduced to the staff, they are all miserable, negative and will joke amongst themselves that they don’t talk to new people until they pass their 6 month probation (because the turn over is so high). Upon reflecting on my 5 years with this company, I have very little positive things to say. If families knew the way they treated their staff, they wouldn’t support their business. Save yourself the stress and burnout & avoid McInnis & Holloway. 

This company markets itself well—promising work-life balance, competitive pay, and opportunities for growth—but the reality doesn’t reflect those values.

Pros:

Cons:
Unpaid “mandatory” 7AM meetings
Long wait for uniforms
Limited overtime approval
High turnover, poor job security

Employees are expected to attend 7:00 AM meetings that are labeled "optional," yet skipping them results in a $100 deduction from your bonus—making them effectively mandatory and unpaid.

Uniforms are another issue. If your size isn’t in stock, you can wait up to 12 weeks for a replacement, which impacts both comfort and professionalism on the job.

Overtime is discouraged, despite the workload. You’re expected to complete all tasks regardless of how long they take, but any attempt to bank hours is questioned unless prior approval is granted—which isn’t always easy to get.

The turnover rate is extremely high, and management fosters a culture of fear. Employees often feel their jobs are at risk for vague or arbitrary reasons, creating a stressful and unsupportive work environment.

1st year: I started out at the bottom of the company totem pole. Everyone was nice enough while I figured out what was expected of me and how they do things here. I never had a question that didn’t get answered. I was getting paid more than I had ever made. Overall, my first year was good even though there were a few hiccups.

2nd year: Much better than the first. By the 2nd year I had everything figured out. M&H felt like my personal domain and there wasn’t a single thing I didn’t know about it. I was a natural, which is a weird thing for someone to say about working at a funeral home. But when you’re good, you’re good.

3rd year: I got promoted and couldn’t have been happier. This was my favorite year at M&H.

4th year: By this time I was well on my way to getting promoted again and receiving all the perks that came with it, but when my wife’s job wanted to relocate her, we made the joint decision to jump on the opportunity. It was a sad farewell, but she’s in a better place now (in her career, sorry funeral home worker humor) and I couldn’t be happier for her.

Pros excellent pay and benefits. Good hours but always expected to be available. 

Owners/management are clueless and are more concerned with micromanaging and covering their butts rather than providing direction and constructive feedback. 

Hear nothing for months and when you do hear from them it is completely belittling. No matter how hard anyone works it’s never good enough. No “good jobs” given unless it’s for show. 

Everyone is nice to your face but the drama and gossip behind backs is crazy! Most hate their jobs but are trapped because the pay is good. 

Owners write up everything even the most minor infractions as a “CYA” vs actually managing. Big brother (or should I say little son) is always watching. 

So much ego from owners who look down their noses at you. You’re just a peon there, completely replaceable and it shows in every interaction with one in particular. 

You can do better elsewhere. Don’t bother trying to please it’s impossible. 

I worked there a few years ago & hated it. The only thing I can say was rewarding was being able to help families. Toxic work environment. Always gossip and talking behind eachothers back. Always walking on eggshells wondering when you go into work each day, if that will be your last day. Management believes false information without verifying. Unrealistic expectations and no opportunities to advance. Work life balance is non existent. Managment takes very little accountability and will blame it on the employees and as a result, will use any excuse to terminate. High turnover of employees. This place is miserable and with so many funeral homes to choose from, thet capitalize on people's sadness. 

I worked there for almost 4 years and these were not the easiest years of my career. I was treated many times in advance as a subordinate employee who has nothing to say. Often, my workday did not end after 12 hours, sometimes I did not even have time for a lunch break. In addition, people in printing and service office, treat people like rubbish, I have heard many times about my intelligence or education. Even the managers did not have problems in giving ambiguous comments, even to clients. I have been a witness of comments - about clients' accents, English, or ethnicity. The work is in very uncomfortable conditions, where you can only get problems with mental and physical health. This's a very toxic environment full of bullying, and chronic stress.

Poor management, HR is lazy, does not follow through.
No compassion if time is needed away from work for family issues.
It is more important to have a happy customer then a happy employee.  
Lots of pressure from management and customers,  Their is not the word "no" to the customers it is well used from management to yourself.  The pay is below par, but management would have you believe the pay is more then you are worth.  Management doesn't listen, ever.  If something goes wrong they will try to make you feel like it was your fault.

Don't work here.  DO NOT work here.

My job is not very stressful. I complete my tasks in a timely fashion, and my manager never bothers me.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly colleagues and managers that makes things happen. I feel it’s a very good company. I’m very fortunate.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day for myself as a housekeeper is to arrive at my location and pace  myself through throughout the day all my cleaning duties.
