McLennan Ross

This is probably the best firm that I have ever worked for!  The people there are very supportive and you feel a sense of comradery. This place is truly the definition of work hard, play  hard.  They have many events throughout the year in which all members are encouraged to participate which lend a hand in team building and socializing. 

It's great that it is not located downtown, but you have access to restaurants and stores on your break time.  

Salary is fair and benefits are great!

My experience is similar to other online reviews - great people but poor management (more so in Calgary than in other branches). Certain bad apples can foster a toxic environment and make office politics paramount, which is unfortunate. The salary is mediocre as the benefits are Blue Cross. I do recommend this firm for legal services as they have some of the best in their field. That being said, working there was a different story. Do your research and ensure it’s right for you. 

If you work as a legal assistant, the salary may be fair, but not worth the stress - HR is powerless and is virtually non-existent.  If you end up working for one of their partners or one of the lawyers with 'old-school' thinking, be prepared to not leave your desk without repercussions or discussion.   Order flowers and book personal appointments for your lawyer or lose your job. That said you also need to be their ideal 'personality' and have a certain look.  While there I felt like I was in an episode of "Mad Men." Not ideal.

High volumes of work in the mailroom.  Lots of photocopying ordering supplies and providing client customer service.  

Even though we worked very hard as a company they would have a Friday of every month designated to having time to have a gathering for entertainment and food.  It was great to be recognized for the hard work everyone put in.

Culture appears great but that’s a facade for how toxic it is within each department,

Several phone calls and non-stop emails and data entry

McLennan Ross was an enjoyable and professional place to work for the majority of my time there however there has recently been a change in office management and for that reason I have left. I learned a great deal from the previous manager about how to work in an office and the staff were a lovely group of ladies and they provided a fun work environment.

Hired with training promises that were not fulfilled and was let go years later advising of no permanent position and insufficient training that was not given to me as promised. People were hired after me and pushed ahead of me during the duration of my employment.

Management is helpful for the most part

Interesting work, fun events but there is a lot of favouritism and cliques. 

There is a divide, where some people want change and some do not, and it’s a bunch of back and forth and very lawyer centred which is like that at many firms however the people are great 

Office management not qualified to assist with staffing needs, or personal issues arising in day to day work environment.  Unprofessional person.and under qualified for possesion.
