I worked for this company for 6 months and had a decent experience.

Typical of retail, there is bare minimum of training. They call it 'spa treatment' training. Basically it's the idea to say hi to every customer and help them with clothing selection. They don't teach you ways to increase your sales other than 'you should upsell'. The expectation of Product knowledge training is that you look in the merchandising manual and figure out what the trends are. There is no training on the products themselves. I was told to look at the labels and that's where I'll find the info. The training is all self taught if you feel the urge. You are expected to sell minimum $200/hr and your 'score' is posted on a weekly basis.

I'm truly disappointed by the quality of clothing they offer, so I found it hard to promote buying their clothes. Ironically,  I used to love Melanie Lyne and was a regular customer, hence my desire to work there, but I quickly realized the majority of their clothing is cheap polyester and does not last after several washes.

This company has a long way to go before I would recommend working there. They pay minimum wage and yet you are expected to wear their overpriced clothes when working there.

Wish I could say it's a good place to work, but such is not the case.

I worked at Melanie Lyne for just over a year and a half and will never go back to working for that company ever again. I would literally rather be unemployed than have to put up with them. The company is in quite a bit of financial trouble and take it out on their employees, blaming sales staff for failing to meet targets that are routinely thousands of dollars above what is actually achievable. There is incessant pressure on associates to be constantly busy, even if the store has been empty for hours. Management receive nowhere near adequate levels of training, leading to inconsistencies from one manager to the next. Items are extremely overpriced and, despite the entire clientele knowing this and waiting for them to go on sale, higher-ups keep raising prices and making it even harder to reach target each day.
Wages are very low, but you are expected to have a wide-open availability; I saw at least three people who'd been with the company for quite some time get let go when they were unable to add more days. Stores are given so few hours by head office that they are constantly understaffed.
Melanie Lyne was the most stressful and least rewarding workplace I've ever had the misfortune to be in, and I couldn't be happier that I've been able to move on. Don't work there unless you don't have any other options at all - it's simply not worth it.

A typical day at work would start with opening cash registers and cleaning the sales floor. When the customers come in, you start approaching them and offering help. The closing procedure would be sizing, closing the cash registers and cleaning if there is time.

Pros:
- Canadian brand. 
- The customers were mostly ladies over 50 who love to talk and really just needed advice. Sometimes it feels like personalized shopping. 
- The system allows for ordering a size if it's not available. Orders come in pretty fast. 
- Work / life balance.
- Good as a part-time job because there is little pressure. 
- Management was friendly and helpful.

Cons:
- Some coworkers could be dramatic and unwelcoming.  
- Lack of available sizes in the store. Often there would be just one unit left and it would still be out.
- Full price items are way too expensive for its unsophisticated composition. 
- No commission.  

Neutral:
- Some are made with angora wool. Surprising, considering that many brands abandoned the material after multiple violations were uncovered in regards to its sourcing not long ago. Hopefully, Melanie Lyne sources its angora responsibly.

Overall:
A good place to work part-time or if you're looking to make friends at work.

If you want to earn extra its good for a side job.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful thing is working during the holiday period and one has to be wearing only there brand name clothing for work which is expensive and according to work they don’t pay much. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
My experience with the staff was terrible as some of the staff is already working for more than 20 years and they treat new employees as their assistant, they will even ask to pick up the garbage they threw on the floor. They are racist with people who come from different religion. The company doesn’t provide any support for such behaviour for the employees who are on lower positions, you either leave the job or struggle.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Some days are quieter and somedays are busier,  most of the work include at cash register, online orders, taking care of inventory, customer service and etc.

1- Me and my colleague open the tills  , then we close the fitting rooms and open the doors .
we receive the new stock that comes in the store and steam the pieces that needs to be steamed .
we learn about the new product that came in the store so that when the customer comes in we are familiar with the product .
we do ward robing consisting of 15 pieces that would make the customer able to wear it for 30 days .
sometimes we are scheduled for markdowns that we have to finish before we leave .
2-The management is one of the best management I worked with, very respectful and supporting .
3-Co-workers are very helpful, they help with anything you need to know , they look for anything that the customer is looking for with me and they always share their experience with me .
4- The hardest part of the job is when we are having a slow day as I always like to have something to do and be busy.
5-The most enjoyable part is when I achieve customer satisfaction .

I was bullied by an individual at work on more than one occasion. The management team wouldnt do anything about it. Instead of resolving issues related to harassment and bullying, or other peoples poor behavoir, they fire people to not have to deal with resolving issues. Employees would speak about there personal lives and very inappropriate topics in front of customers. Management wouldn't resolve bullying or harassment at work, but instead brush it off as something they had no control over. Peoples hours were cut completely to the point one individual had almost no hours at work. I was a former employee and had to give my notice because of the toxic enviroment and the lack of respect individuals had for one another. People who were higher up would treat people lower than them like they had no say in anything. People were favoured over others. Overall i do not recommend this company. They only see you as a number.

They expect too much for a retail environment. Employees can never relax. Must protray a fake personality and be very over the top and in the customers faces. Was not a comfortable work environment. 

management is NOT trained properly and does not know how to properly manage the establishment, goals, or employees. 

Sales goals and quotas were set much too high and there was little to no ways of obtaining them. 

The other employees were great people, it was just the lack of understanding, commitment and professionalism from management that made the experience very undesirable. 

My job was very busy. I would have to do different shores like cash register transactions, opening and closing cash registers, check e-mails, enter special orders in the system, receiving merchandise, and do supply orders. I was also responsible for doing a report about the weekly sales of each salesperson, and set the goal for their weekly sales. There was no hard part since I enjoyed every activity, and time would go very fast since I had a lot to do.
Knowing my job responsibilities was the best key to do my job the best I could.

Well every day for my was enjoyable at work .
every day I learned a new think , I learned how to coach associate and how to do wardrobe for customer . 
	Supervise and trained employees generating significant improvements in their productivity 

	Managed sales department with 10 employees addressing customer concerns, coaching employees and mitigating product loss

	Monitored budget and set sales targets to ensure that goals were being achieved

My Co-Workers are hard works and team player . 

The most enjoyable part of my job was training wardrobe to associate .

Don’t waist your time they cut everybody's hours specially in January and February, you end up with a ridiculous salary 
Also you get no benefits and in your contract and they promise you no minimum hours so if they want to get rid of you they will simply cut all of your hours 
They will ask you to work night shifts and give you all the tasks that no body wants ( like cleaning the bathroom ) !! 
They allow customers to treat you like garbage just because the sales are all that matters to them .
