I started as a 3rd year apprentice, so I was ok was lower money, expecting decent raises as time went on. After I finished school, I only got a 25 cent raise for our annual raise, and guess because I complained and we were a little slow I got sent to the stamping for a few months fixing and repairing dies as well as trouble shooting in the press... all for a whopping $23.50 an hour doing the exact same stuff as the guys making $30+ an hour. Once my log book was filled out and my apprenticeship was complete I moved on, and now get paid a fair wage $28 to start.

So if you do want to work at Metrican, start high because the raises are small; across the shop most people got a 25 cent raise.

The designers are slow and not the best, so expect delays in your build, effecting your timeline.

The guys who work there are friendly, but there are a few guys coming and going right now.

Everyday is different, and it really ties people together. Management is always working to ensure you are comfortable, but also requires that you are challenging yourself; It makes you feel like you are apart of something dynamic and alive.

I've personally learned a lot about what it takes to become a member of a team. You have to bring something of value to the table, something that makes everyone's life a little bit easier. Something that makes people see you as an asset. 

I really enjoy going in in the morning; I always know what I am going to do and I also know there is a chance something new will come up and require people to get together to find a solution.

Also sometimes there is cake.

I would not recommend management has shifted in the last year and continues to shift in a poor direction.  Many employees are frustrated and I watched a manager throw a bin in the middle of a walkway out of frustration narrowly missing someone.  They don’t give heat breaks, everything is the operators faults or the last tech didn’t fix it right.  Mgmt has given up and there are an overwhelming amount of orders they can’t keep up with so the pressure has been falling in the operators.  Do not work here it’s not worth is for the money.

Burlington faciity. Once a month or so we have a "townhall meeting" they asks the highest paid workers take time to clear space for the workers to stand during the meeting. Workers stand in another space. During the meeting they speak about how low our quality, customer care and LTI are. They strongly encourage everyone to do their jobs properly and following the procedure (that nobody has to sign saying they understand) and it will solve all our problems. After the meetings everyone talks about how there will be no raises and how we used to be an amazing company. 

They expect no one to use the washrooms if its not on their one 30 minute break as they believe the production levels are more important than anything else. They then blame us for production levels being low despite us having a 30 minute meeting about a prize raffle. Constantly have to pick up other peoples slack if working on a machine requiring more than 1 operator. Your production levels could be 10% above the required amount and you still wouldnt be able to go the washroom with getting a talking to. They only have 1 washroom for the entire building too.

Would not recommend if you are trying to move up. There are a lot of good people here always willing to lend a helping hand. But the supervisors are all 20 year guys and they are the bad apples in the bunch. Basically they yell and berate their people with impunity.  Management only cares about the bottom line but really not enough to do anything about it as work is leaving the shop in droves and nothing is coming in to replace the work lost. You may learn some things in your trade but they will hold you back to keep your wage low.

Metrican operates in a fast-paced industry which makes your days go fast!
However, it is an exciting and enjoyable work place where teamwork and employee cooperation are highly valued.  People enjoy coming to work; they feel appreciated, acknowledged and rewarded.  Open communication  lines help solve any difficulties in a positive way and employee feedback is viewed as an opportunity for growth.  Management is very supportive and empowering!
