Micheals Arts and Crafts

- Attendance call as soon as you arrive.
- Everyone is in a circle and is given their task for the day.
- They are to do the task until break time (which is an hour or so).
- An example of a task would be to go towards the paper section and sort through the different papers. 
- This is done with box cutters and the use of a portable machine that scans items and informs you where it belongs.
- Tasks are fairly straight forward and simple to do.
- After break time, go back and finish your task (if finished, go to your superior to ask for a new task). 
- There might be break somewhere in there but it's significantly shorter.
- This is done until it is time to depart to home.
- I learned how to use a box cutter and how to use a scanner efficiently.
- The hardest part of the job is waking up earlier than my usual sleep schedule.
- The most enjoyable part are the breaks in between working.

The co workers are great, the environment and management ( in store ) but the district managers doesn’t care about employees and head office too, high expectations and low pay off, they don’t have enough equipment nor time to get much done and want you to work fast. The only way to get a full time position is to be in management which is dumb if you have been their for over three years and what they should do is ask if you want full time, or offer more hours to current employees and not higher seasonal people. Offer full time to current employees than it would be great but they won’t so they don’t have to pay benefits. So I would not recommend this place at all. Minus stars if I could. 

- Typical day at work: Varies day by day. Average day is okay, not overloaded with work, but a good bit of tasks to complete.

- What I learned: Retail is retail.

- Management: Overall pretty decent. Switches out here and there, people finding better opportunities. 

- Workplace Culture: A mix between people in their 30's +, and teens.

- Hardest Part: Dealing with upset customers, either not having the product they used to get 10+ years ago, or products being expensive. 

- Most Enjoyable Part: Helping a customer find the right product. 

environment is a  very fast paced, fun place to work, Very Friendly up beat group of team members. 
Hardest part is some days the work is overload with not enough hours to complete the job.
I always enjoy learning new crafts, greeting and serving new people with a cheerful attitude.

I would arrived to work and each morning the entire team of the day would have a meeting. We would discuss the goals for the day, shown the progression of the store, talked about and comments questions and concerns.

After the meetings every morning and after lunch breaks we would go off to finish what we were doing or meet with one of the managers about a new tasks

Management is extremely unprofessional and always threatening shift cuts and termination. Advancement is only accessible to those who meet their ridiculous and unattainable time standards. Management has no problem spreading personal business about employees with other employees. Management has also driven many employees to quit. If you can avoid working here please do.

I was a sales associate on the floor, and was in charge of the jewelry dept. was also a cashier when needed. I liked working for the company but after Christmas the hours were cut to 8 hrs a week unless you were in a management position so I left and found the job at grove Fashion cleaners with more hours and pay.

The people are nice but it is difficult to really collaborate outside your home department. 
The managers are nice enough but not overly inspiring.   
I enjoyed the employee discount and the chance to learn new craft skills. 
This is a good part time job for supplemental income but not really a good place to grow a career.

Management!! Lack of hours , low pay

Stressful , little to no training , no support 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy from the moment you start till you leave

You will be expected to do all jobs and communication with management is spotty. No support for getting things done. The co workers are lovely and make the job bearable.
