I had the bulk of the PO filing to do each morning,  I worked in an accounts payable department and was their research clerk.  I would email Montreal and complete their list of jobs for the day, as well as, helping with cheque runs.  I answered inquiries on the phone and would then go to the folder of cheques to see if any of these could be released.  I was responsible for releasing daily cheques, as well as, preparing larger "emergency" cheques and taking these to the comptrollers to have them signed; this would occasionally require me to go to the President for his signature.  I would spend a portion of my day in the basement "dungeon" sorting through copies of returned cheques and preforming a large ten year inquiry.  I had to prepare bank reconciliations and perform general ledger postings.  I helped with month end computer reporting.  This was different then what I had experienced as we had to take all required breaks and they did not want anyone working through their breaks or staying late to work on unfinished work.
I wish this position could have continued, however, the Irving Oil Company is affiliated with numerous others and when the dominos fall in one company, it travels down to the last hired is the first to go.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Everyone and everything. From fantastic Irving family through local management all co-workers and also fantastic customers. Been there a long time and can honestly say the old saying is true. Something like if you love what you do then you don't work a day. That is how it was for me

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Well we are of course aware of productivity deadlines. Comes with all job requirements. Trying to keep up sometimes is stressful especially if you get tied up at certain customers for whatever reason. Then sometimes you have to try to make up for it down the line. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fantastic. Transparent. Honest. Full cooperation from Irving family right down through the ranks. Everyone always had you back 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Basically go deliver you trailer load of freight. Sometimes you unload trailers at warehouse and load your trailer for delivery. At days end unload outbound and load it onto outbound trailers

I thought it was a great company in ways but their handling of Hazmat borders on criminal They load but don’t secure the load. Often the hazmat is not secure and inaccessible to be able to secure it. People and management are misinformed about placarding They have policy the flagrantly ignore 
The addresses are seldom correct. 
The dispatchers were the best I ever worked with. The warehouse guys were terrific friendly and helpful The warehouse/dock was spotless.  The drivers were outstanding and eager to help you. The trucks were in great shape and repairs were done when needed. I was pulled over in the scales for inspection 4 times in 6 months. No issues The terminal manager was slow to react to issues concerning safety 
Otherwise I really enjoyed my time there. The people are zero Trans were excellent As well as HR Prrfect job except for the Hazmat issue 

A typical day at work consists of going through about 150 trucks. Getting them in order of earliest delivery to customers. Advising internal and external contacts of service interruptions. Communicating with drivers to make sure they are looked after if any questions or issues arise with deliveries or equipment concerns.

Working with various applications to maintain service requirements for customers and drivers.

Management is fine for the most part. Better communication internally could be improved. The odd employee here and there seem to be disengaged with daily procedures that are to be followed.

Overall a good team to work with.

In my last 5 monthes, Midland has shut down highways for LIGHT snow, costing O/O and lease drivers thousands of dollars, and when driver doesnt feel comfortable to drive they're penalized and given "forced vacation".

Dispatch team is simply the worst garbage on the face of the earth, they are operating like its the 50's and still think they are face of the company, but infact any true driver wouldnt stick around, and Midland has to recruit fresh drivers who dont know better to drive for them.

If your thinking of joining Midland, please dont. Irving needs to put management of Midland into new direction in next 3-4 years or the company is going to fold up.

1.45/1.42 isnt enough to compensate for the BS your going to endure, Im willing to work for 30,000 less a year to never deal with them again.

Midland transport does not hire now although they have hired employees . They have their own agency called pro-trans . Harmless , peaceful management but useless and without a purpose . Bad employee attendance or no attendance .
There is always an urgency to do the work faster because it looks good on the supervisor who wants to go home as soon as possible because they are paid by salary . The push is always on the agency employees because they have no legs to stand on . Another plantation that pays a few cents more than holes calling themselves trucking companies . The less you say the better.
Supervisor gets rid of you if you are not fast enough . Keep on smiling and show you are happy because we all need money and therefore we all have to eat .

Old school management in a new world work environment. I hope its changed since I was there. I was hired from the competition for my 10 years of experience and they needed someone to think outside the box but when I started it became obvious that they were a "do as I say" company and thinking outside the box was poopoo'd upon. The interviews went well and I had a good feeling for what they wanted but when I started it was a completely different world from day 1. If I hadnt hired my replacement at my previous employer, I wouldve left and gone back to them after day 1.

I worked there through an agency for 9 years. Midland Transport is the very good company to work for but recently management has been changed and they wanna show numbers to the big boss so they are trying there best to cut every signal corner even safety wise to show off numbers to BIG BOSS.
No job security as long as you are working through an agency They are not willing to hire drivers. Reason I worked there for so long cause I had hoped one day I will become an owner operator but that day never came and unfortunately, they let me go cause some issues

7. Safe place to work 

Midland was a good company my co-workers were really nice.The money was good .I did enjoy the customers that I delivered to and picked up from I do miss them.My job was LTL freight all over southern Ont.There was some freight like the boxes of paper that were just to heavy for me to lift off back of truck .I've heard from the boys they have more tailgates now which is a good thing.Nice to know they've addressed this problem.all in all it's a good company.
