Mill Creek Care Centre is a very busy, demanding, high expectations environment.  The care in which the residents receive from the frontline workers is the best possible care to be given despite the heavy demands of the workplace.  If you are a nurse, you will not only be expected to complete your own tasks as outlined in the job description but you will be expected to do the work of the nurse managers as well. It is an environment that is very much micromanaged. PSWs work short staffed, expected complete a ton of documentation (even double documentation)and on time which is often described as impossible. Very rushed to meet the tasks on time. Time off is very hard to come by. If you need time off you need to cover your own shift, including stat holidays and personal holidays which you're entitled too. Staffing is scarce, work short almost daily on all shifts. Even when short you're expected to do the work of a fully staffed environment.  The people you work alongside with day in and day out are amazing, the upper management and Responsive Health are more concerned with statistics. The hours for nurses are long (12) and the workload expectation far exceeds the allotted hours of a shift. Management is also very pushy and aggressive when it comes to asking for overtime, especially if you are already working. 

For 3 months of putting all the knowledge that I Learn from 3 months of schooling into the world of reality, I feel nervous yet so excited to share everything that I learned. Working with vulnerable people and working with the energetic and supportive staff, for me it is really a big break leading to the beautiful and promising world of future. I find that dealing different behavior of each client is the most challenging part because you'll never knew if the attitude that they are showing will be last for good or will lasts for a few while but by the help of training I learned a lot of things..the reason why they have those mood swings, Mostly it is not them who makes those behavior different but the disease that they had. The most enjoyable part is when I know that I made their soul enlightened, I may not change their situation or what life brings for them but the joy and happiness that I shared for them will make a difference.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The residents are the best and the people that you work closely with are great. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management try  to compensate for their lack of experience by covering up their mistakes and trying to throw psw's  and nurses under the bus. It is very poorly run at this time and unless you want to loose your nursing license, I would not work there 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poor management ,  not home like anymore , they are worried more about Saving face than making it a good place to work and a nice place to live for the residents . The staff are all on edge constantly, and unable to focus on their own jobs. Unfortunately poor management trickles down.

- The part time hours are about 24 hours every other weekend (Weekends + Friday/Monday 4pm-8) at minimum wage. 
- High turnover, I saw quite a few coworkers from all levels come and go over the year I was there. 
- Felt like reception is seen as sort of expendable yet relied on so heavily.

Tasks and responsibilities regularly given to the admin team were very disproportionate to the wages earned and it ruffled feathers to question a task that isn't appropriate for a receptionist. 

Office manager, majority of office staff (at least the ones I got to know), and the healthcare team are great. 
The residents and their families are so kind and strong. 

The home is filthy.  Food is like slop. 
Its is not resident focused, at all. Management is snide and condescending. Only concerned with making money and throwing their weight around. Resident care suffers because PSW don’t have the proper supplies. PSWs are over tasked and therefore residents are neglected. Ministry is at the home consistently. 
Working at this LTC is hard on the body and  mind, not to mention the heart. 
Wanting to help people who gave so much, to so many is impossible. Unfortunately residents become tasks , just something to be checked off of the list. 
They deserve so much more than they will receive at this “home”. It’s much more like prison than a warm place to spend your final years 

I did enjoy working here for the most part! It pays well and there were always shifts available, which is nice if you're looking for extra shifts. They are often short staffed, and if you don't know the unit or residents it can be very stressful, but it gets better with time! The staff are pretty good overall, though they love to gossip which can add unnecessary stress to the job. The residents are amazing, they have the best personalities and you'll learn so much from them! 
Overall it can be challenging but it is a great learning experience and you'll meet so many wonderful people along the way.

I worked as a personal support worker at millcreek for 4 years. Over those years I had many good shifts and also many bad ones. There were times we worked short with just 2 psw's on evening shift, and management who were working evening (nurse managers) were resistant to helping with care. There were lots of good RN's and RPN'S who would help but that also depended on the nurse. Overall it was stressful, but when you got onto a floor full time and got into a routine it got a bit easier. Also they had so many bed alarms, chair alarms,  floor alarms, it was insane the amount of alarms they placed on falls risk residents. Very Fast paced 

•	Perform direct patient care, assistance with elimination/toileting/personal hygiene, nutrition, Activities of Daily Living, assisting with the patient turns, mobilization and transport by being sensitive and empathetic to the needs of the residents.
•	Diligently practice good sanitation and sterile techniques to avoid infection and the spread of contagious illness.
•	Providing cognitive and physical stimulation to the residents, one on one and as a group
•	Outstanding ability to prioritize and organize tasks according to institutional and resident needs

Tsking care of the elderly and most vulnerable

Not at all, best place to work

its culture is friendly, motivating and customer-focused with a strong mission and vision

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A busy day with short breaks that enable employees either to snack or handle personal matters. It gives personal fulfilments to employees

Managers are very rude and not understanding of people lives and they expect you to be on call 24/7,
Never having any of the equipment we needed to do our jobs, shortage of plates for residents, shortage of cutlery and cups, serving spoons. Kitchen would not make special meals for residents and they management didnt care. Disgusting way to run an old age home. Wont work here again. Pay was also quite low.
