I worked at Minto for a little over 2 years as a health & safety rep/laborour. I worked at the Harmony, Mohoganny and Quinns Point sites. I did not have a pleasant experience (Mohoganny was the worst). All in all I experienced employor verbal harrassment, expectation of work was literally physically impossible most days and on multiple occasions I worked overtime and was never paid. Some management members do not provide the workers proper PPE. I was expected to constantly use my own vehicle on the construction site without compensation. Also, there's little opportunity to move up into other positions as they hire mostly externally. 

I do not recommend working for Minto on the construction sites to anyone because of the excessive stress it cost me and will likely cause you.

I loved the management and all other staff except for my fellow house keepers. They pushed me out by purposely training me incorrectly so that I would make mistakes, they made inappropriate comments about me to my face, spoke badly about me in their mother tongue thinking I wouldn’t understand and the list goes on. They were all grown women and I was the youngest employee in the company, I guess that rubbed some people the wrong way and they wanted me out. They got what they wanted and I quit. It was emotionally taxing on me. Still loved the management and all other staff, truly some amazing people there and I was grateful for the opportunity as I was so young. (This was in 2018)

What is the best part of working at the company?
Site coworkers collaboration, cooperation. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Proceeding with site work without completed information from affecting departments ie; sales, architecture, land development,  site oversite.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture is/was well below what has become industry standard; working in silos remains their standard. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Accept the "team" you had no part in creating and accepting accountability for issues you may have had nothing to do with.

A typical day at work involved interaction with many customers as well as other employees to facilitate and process condominium sales and update data in the database. I learned about responsibility and time-management, as well as how to complete tasks for a deadline. There was a level of independence in so far as my manager would delegate tasks and then allow me to complete them through my own motivation and efforts. My co-workers were very friendly and the most enjoyable part of the job is that I learned very much about the condo market and the real estate business.

Was a horrible place to work, a giant sea of cubicles with everyone watched like hawks. Promises made were quickly broken once they “had you”. People  being fired weekly was the norm, accomplished by security guards walking some pour unsuspecting soul to the door in front of everyone, demoralizing. Admin assistants spied on staff for managers. You needed a doctor’s note every time you were sick more than 2 days. Taking your kid to the doctor’s required you to use vacation days even though you would work a pile of overtime. Part of their retirement plan was to hand out a CPP brochure. Lots of favouritism and cliques. 

I recently left Minto to pursue another opportunity, and I've thought about my time at Minto a fair amount. It is a great place with a great atmosphere. Yes, it's stressful at times, but what job isn't? The amount of experience I gain in my position was valuable, and I've taken many things that I learned in that role with me today. I was lucky to have a great team, which means a lot to me, where you feel welcome and like family. Senior management also listens to you and offers great feedback and does action items discussed in one on ones. Would I go back to Minto? In a heartbeat.  If you're looking for a career to start in, this is the place!

A typical day at work included meetings with colleagues, interactions with clients and performing the job-related tasks. Before Covid lockdown the day in the office was dynamic and full of interpersonal interactions with coworkers and management. During Covid there was a lot of online meetings to stay connected. After the return to the office it was a new atmosphere and a sense of recalibration, which served to alleviate the distance felt during the work from home months. Overall work culture has always been very supportive of personal development, individual differences and celebrating accomplishments. 

A big sense of belonging, big happy family, wonderful HR, highly skilled and was the favourite part, management were pretty good, and skilled foremen, handymen and good sense of purpose to get things done.
Constant challenged and working hard which was satisfying.
It was great at the days of the previous management before started changing everything inside, we used to take pride in what we do, but at the end it died out.
But over all a great structured company.

Minto is a real, professional company where you learn at a well-guided pace. I work on the dirtier side—debris removal and cleaning—but even here, the company treats you with respect. Their work culture is rare to find: they care about their workers, are professional, and make you feel valued. Negative reviews exist, but in my experience, this place is worth working at.

Minto has many wonderful people that have come and gone over the years.  Lately there has been a definite decline in quality of construction.  There is more focus on achieving surveys than actually building a quality home for people to live in.  The same mistakes whether it be from the design stage, to the building stage are repeated and not improved upon year after year.  The good Site Supers are held back, while the ones coming from their competition are quickly moved up the ladder.  Bringing along the same bad habits from their previous company.
