Mission Eye Care

The entire management(including owners/doctors) need to get some serious advice/help with how to run a business, how to coach, talk to(without talking down-which is done all the time) and support staff in a positive manner. Expectations are absolutely insane considering the communication is EXTREMELY poor as well as training. I cannot stress this enough, I’ve never had management talk down and degrade me like this in my entire life. There is also definitely favouritism in the workplace. Don’t expect to make much more than minimum wage, as the owner will flat out tell you, that you are in fact making much less than you should, but won’t pay you what you’re worth or deserving of. Turnover rate is huge, due to them firing people left right and centre instead of trying to fix problems. Their way of “fixing a problem” is having the clinic lead throw tantrums like a child instead of being professional and developing a performance plan.

I worked here back in 2012, my coworkers were great, the training was great. The manager at the time (she likely still is) does in fact have her favourites, despite the favouritism, it was easy to work there because I liked to work.

I was never late, never missed a shift. I asked for a half day about a week in advance due to family situation and she said absolutely not and dismissed me from the position and was able to do so as I was almost at the end of probation. This was memorable as I have never been treated like this by an employer.

I do appreciate the company overall as they genuinely care about clients and client needs. I laugh when I see they hire constantly, this place has such great opportunity for growth and a strong team but I would say that there needs to be more understanding and less playing favourites from management  (especially at a low wage!)

There is no shortage of opportunity to learn and grow within each position here at Mission Eye Care. The team is collaborative-- everything is a shared effort and there are always supports in place for each employee. The practice is one that focuses on a patient-centred approach; each team member, no matter their role, strives to deliver the best patient care possible for each and every client. The owners and managers hold an open door policy that is key for workplace communication. Each team member is valued and empowered within the office.

I have been with Mission Eye Care for a year and a half and I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing doctors and staff. Mission is a fast paced clinic that services both basic routine eye care patients, as well as patients with specific medical eye needs. As a clinic that specializes in dry eye and corneal disease, I was able to gain a wealth of knowledge in these areas of eye health. I enjoyed the patient diversity and getting to interact with some many different people every day. The clinic is very highly regarded and known for their specialization and patient care. The staff work very well together and are always willing to help each other out and the doctors are always happy to teach. I enjoyed my time at Mission Eye Care and learned a lot. I am only moving on from here as I am relocating out of the city.

I have been with Mission for over a year. In my time with Mission, I have found that it is very important that I am incredibly detail oriented and can easily multitask. It is true that there is little room for error because we are in a medical setting and patients need the best care possible. The environment can definitely be stressful if a fast paced environment is not your style. There is plenty of room for growth through the years, provided you are willing to take on more and like to learn, which I love. CE is provided and paid for. Everyone is learning and growing, and management seems to be learning and growing along with the staff.

As a neurodivergent it’s hard for me to find a place that accepts me quirks and all but at Mission Eye Care they are willing to work with me to find the best way to complete my tasks, the staff are amazing to interact with as someone who is used to and prefers working alone I love going into work and spending time with my coworkers. The clinic does understand the need for work/life balance and is accommodating provided I give enough notice! I feel supported and heard here.

At first there was a lot to learn and it was intimidating; however, the staff were always there to help answer any of my questions. Once I got the hang of the office flow, I really enjoyed assisting and interacting with patients. The work load was fast paced, which at times could be hectic, but it comes with a tremendous sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
The doctors were very professional and their enthusiasm towards providing the best patient care was contagious. Mission Eye Care is a top notch company that is defining eye care and provides a great work environment.

I had worked for this place for a very short time, the negativity, disrespect and the belittlement that occurred was disappointing and overall damaging from the management staff. 
Everyday it felt like your job was at stack, if you did not do a certain task correctly or differently. 
I pass this information on to make everyone that applies to this position mindful of what they’re getting themselves into.

This is a fast paced, detail orientated, and highly focused environment. The knowledge you gain puts you in a very specialized field, and if you are serious about a career path this is the place to learn from Doctors that are the leaders in North America in their specialties. Having been here almost 3 years, I would say that employees who genuinely want to learn and work hard are treated very well.

Management could use some training. Although I believe they mean well, the limited knowledge of how to run a business with satisfied and happy staff is lacking.
