I worked in this company for 10 years, went up the ladder and while working in this company I began learning keyboard shortcuts and programming. 

The latest job I had in IT was very overwhelming but it was still my favorite job.

I resolved the overwhelming part by creating various computer programs so a large part of my job was done by these programs.
This automation allowed me to focus on what could not be automated: 

for example, 

Emptying the inbox full of escalations every day, since I was the highest point of escalations. And in most cases,  customers were very frustrated that they had to call our company three time and were still experiencing the same problem. This frustration meant that it often took 10 minutes before I could begin troubleshooting. Because of the understandable frustration, I had to reassure them, making them feel truly safe that since I was going to solve the problem(s) they were experiencing and all of them were happy at the end of our call since their equipment was back up and running.

Training customers in North America before they used the equipment they had.

Providing a lot of coaching in a friendly manner to call center agents, explaining how the equipment was working in order to reduce the amount of frustration that client were experiencing. I had no problem with receiving more escalations, I just felt bad for the frustrated customers. And somehow, it was the same scenario over and over again so I created a very user friendly web page for the call center agents.

All my managers were very nice and professional and I did not experience any micro-management in this company.

I consider myself very fortunate that I worked for this company.

In short, this is just an antiquated payment processing company with 2 banks behind it, RBC and BMO.  So despite its own pride in declaring they are a technology company, they are actually quite behind in terms of innovation.   You will find out once you are in.  I guarantee it.  

Extremely flat organization that leads to nowhere if you plan on building a career.   Despite talk of "development", I have witnessed career goals of several fellowed employees squandered by politics, gatekeeping, and nepotism.  Anecdotally, I witnessed a manager deliberately not showing up to an interview for an applicant from another department. 
My advice is to move on quickly as possible from this company if you really want to advance, career wise.   Most people who have stayed at this company, are you either related (or a close friend) to someone in sub-management/executive role or were initially transitioned from the banks mentioned (RBC & BMO) from over 20 years ago and are gearing up to retire.  Which tells you, you either have to follow the status quo just to get through the outdated inefficient day to day operations to the point of high stress.  Or simply, don't follow at all which leads to possible termination or self-resignation.  

In terms of salary, it is quite low in comparsion to other companies witin the same industry.  No real bonuses either, as annual bonus is merely a 1-2% boost of your current yearly salary which does not even keep up with inflation.  One year, they did not even give this small bonus as they didn't "make enough profit" as the reason.  And this was way before Covid.  

  

Business Development Consultants at Moneris are given an incredible amount of autonomy and flexibility to make sales, with great support from all levels of management. My immediate superiors were all very genuine, kind people who cared about employees and cared about improving the company.
Although it is a big corporation, everybody higher up in the company was always approachable, friendly, and eager to listen to employees in order to make appropriate changes. In the 2 years I worked there, I witnessed many substantial improvements, including a channel-wide salary increase, the introduction of company-wide paid vacation between Christmas and New Year, and investments in several meaningful software programs to help sales reps organize and execute their days.
This particular role was challenging because it was 100% cold calling, door-to-door. You have to be very comfortable with rejection (as in virtually any sales role), but the payoff of signing new clients was always worth it.
The best part of being a BDC was the autonomy it provided. I worked from home with very little oversight; as long as you are hitting your sales targets, you are left a very long leash. If your sales are low, you are given the appropriate support without feeling like you're "in trouble".


The only reason I left is that my wife got a great opportunity in a location that would not sustain this type of sales role.

Training was very brief. You either get it or you don't. It was anywhere from 3-5 weeks of training. Reduced to 3 weeks now from what I remember. You learn most of the stuff on the floor. Training barely covered even 1/4 of what you need to know.

Company kept downsizing overtime and we keep losing quality people because they didn't want to pay more or try hard to retain them. As a result moneris was left with very few (experienced) people that you can ask for help when you need it. This in turned made the work more frustrating for most on the floor and it adds up over time. Some quit due to this.

Pay raise is 3% a year (used to be 5%) depending on performance but honestly it barely made a dent at all in my paycheck or life style after all the taxes. That's assuming you get the full 3% which is quite hard.

Managers care only about stats and not many support on the floor when you need them (see second paragraph for why). And if you don't make the stats they keep harassing you about it daily til you quit or get fired. On top of that every year or 2 we get a new COO and new rules are always made to your job description with more things (work) added on your job without any raise.

Basically you end up working more for less.

It seems to be going down gradually every year and not getting any better.

The Job started at nine in the morning and we had to be at the office one hour earlier. The meeting was a warming up. We talked about plans of day, suggestions for maintaining good work, record from the previous day. It was a moment of learning tips of great work habits; also a moment of sharing experiences.

Our leaders taught us many things such as how to approach customers; how to keep positive attitude during the day and even in the personal life.They acted like friend; available to help, and to provide advice. We were always motivated worker beside them.

As well as my leaders, my co-workers were great people too, and I learned a lot from them. I couldn't imagine me working somewhere with people without such that motivation. We used to have party every Friday after work and that really made us know each other.

The hardest part of the job, was the time when you get customers who don't respect your job. I had hard times sometimes with clients who hurt my feelings; fortunately, I learned how to manage those situations, and be out of them cause we got trained for that.

I was always delighted when it was about bonuses. At every end of weekdays, there were challenges and rewards to win. That was one of the great part of the job.

I enjoy my work and dealing with customers. Very easy job due to all the advertisement that Moneris does and the fact that they receive warm leads from bmo and rbc. There is potentiant to make good money but target in over inflated so stress is high and inside competition is unethical. They are creating new call centres over seas and hiring independent groups to do our job while target remains just as high. You are not allowed to have an opinion otherwise you are labeled as negative and harassed. Their tactics is to scare rather than motivate.
The worst part about this company is management. Extremely unprofessional and unethical. Strict call centre environment, micro management and no room for advancement unless you are Fake for friend and family with management. Lots of favourotism. Not an equal opportunity place.
You are treated like a second class citizen. I often feel I am back at school! Not a good feeling for a working adult. 
I would not recommend as they do not value employees. If you are looking for long term growth look elsewhere.
Good for temporary, transitional place to work.

The company does have a good culture—people are generally friendly and supportive. However, that’s unfortunately overshadowed by poor management practices. There’s a lot of micromanagement, which makes it hard to feel trusted or empowered in your role. There’s little to no room for growth, and career development opportunities are very limited. The work-life balance is also lacking.

Management is one of the biggest issues. Leadership lacks clear direction and often makes reactive rather than strategic decisions. There is a strong tendency toward micromanagement, which creates an environment of mistrust and stifles creativity and independence. Instead of being empowered to take ownership of your work, you’re often second-guessed or over-supervised.

Do not get sick. They will hound you for when you are coming back to work. Even if this means sending you a text message while you are in hospital suffering a heart attack saying I don't mean to stress you out but when you return we need to talk PLUS now you are on unpaid sick leave. 

They do not care about the merchants. Instead send out a service tech to replace terminals in which they are already troubles with instead of sending them newer ones, then these frustrated merchants called back and the front line agents take the brunt.

Expect to turn into a robot meeting QA levels, BCRs, etc. Hounding you with emails to bring these numbers up  or the monthly one on one to discuss your performance to meet a standard which is impossible to meet.

Since competition market is so high, and the company is the leader in its field in Canada, the environment is full of activities to help the company keeps its leadership by providing the best service to the merchants. 
It has a very professional and friendly environment with a high performance management and the employees.
Employees are supposed to work for 8 hours (including the lunch time and the breaks) with a time management flexibility.
Since we are dealing with the customers (merchants) all the servers (applications & the databases) should be always up, and any issue happens, it should be fixed as soon as possible.
The interesting and enjoyable part of there is trying to be up to date with recent technology. However, as a hardest part, should mention the up coming projects and the tough deadlines.
