I would say that MCI is probably one of the best places you could work at *IF* you have hardly any work experience and schooling and you want a decent-paying job. Benefits kick in very very quickly and a guaranteed raise after probation is done. Co-workers are very friendly, HR is super helpful and friendly also. They have a cafeteria there if you would like to buy meals.

What I don't like about them is...

You're almost guaranteed to be laid off at some point: I was laid off 2 and a half months after freshly being hired and was called back a month after but put into a different department and position that I am less comfortable in so I don't fully trust the company. Expect to not keep the same position you first started with as A LOT of people get moved around.  It makes you really feel like you're just another number in a company.

So much to learn: Expect to learn at least 3-4 other jobs at the same time when you're here for a while, which makes it hard to remember everything. They'll have you cross-training 3-4 other jobs.

Too rushed: They are always cutting down on time to work on buses so they can push out more in a day. A lot of departments struggle to keep up with it and therefore putting pressure on the employees to do overtime.

Unorganized: Like every other big company out there it's unorganized, but that doesn't make it any less acceptable. Definitely seems to be a lack of communication and manageability. 







What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing describes any best feature of this company from HR to the Production floor. Bad unorganized 1st day orientation from HR Policy, Safety, Union agreement - nothing has been laid out properly. YOu will be left on the floor learn  by yourself. You are set up to fail.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It's the chaos of keeping up with TEAMS made up by some shof-off guy and told everyone that that is the key to keep up, yet finding yourself in the midst of running here and there because your work has been sabotaged by the next process, and you need to fix it at the end of the line before shipping so they blame you for not keeping up biut your tools and process sucks

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
This place is corrupted with politics , and HR-union connivance is evident so people get to cheat and the Union will just back them up and the HR just follow them without really practicing what is written on the wall - SAFETY, QUALITY, INTEGRITY. Its a waste land.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
STRESS and ANXIETY are typically a daily breakfast on this place adding up the amount of defects that needed to clean up at the end of the day - there is no quality on both products and culture in this place

As much as this place gives security and all the jazzy things you want in a job this place is ran by power tripping managers and higher up’s, lots of favouritism happens on the floor and cliquey, I don’t believe they pay enough compared to cost of living most people work a second job outside of here and they expect a lot from you for how little your paid lets alone not incentives at all for good work or attendance. You’ll feel gaslight, manipulated and even scared to speak up otherwise you’ve got a target painted on your back. Union isn’t that good either they have their arms twisted behind them. Ridiculous reasons of being written up and being giving discipline for simply talking to someone after you’ve finished your job. And the worst of it all is if you miss 40hrs within 3 months you’re being written up for it. And there’s valid reasons why people miss out on work due to outside forces. But they don’t care they want your full submission which is why you don’t have any autonomy other then your two day rest and with only one paid sick day a year!!!!!!! And forced shut downs where they use your holidays you can’t build them up or save them unless you end up working a shutdown which is just house chores 

Myself and others in my department were hired as aluminum TIG welders but we all did SS MIG welding on jigs. The aluminum department they claim to be hiring for consists of about 5 percent of all the welding they do. Don't expect to do aluminum welding until your seniority is high enough to transfer to such a cushioned work environment. My team leader showed zero initiative and was appointed by the super intendant who had decades of experience in the spineless art of micro-management. 
If you decide to work here they will try to save money by making you wear a respirator instead of showing a shred of humanity by making your job more comfortable. No worries, when they give you a suction test to find your respirator size, you can secretly let out tiny bits of air from your mouth to trick the system into thinking it's leaking from where the respirator contacts your face. If they can't find a respirator size that fits than they have to give you a supplied air helmet. You're welcome.

Depending on the department you work in will decide how you are treated by the company.

Unionized employees are treated far better than the non-union staff, and even then it isn't always that good. Like anyplace else some managers and supervisors respect and care for the staff under them, while others are great at yelling and throwing blame around. 

The pay for non-union staff, in most departments, is well below industry standards in the city. They expect you to put in long hours of overtime and then fight you on paying the overtime. Your manager insists you work while HR insists you don't. Add to the fun is when your manager is in the US and expects you to follow Kentucky labour laws and tries to ignore Canadian and Manitoban laws for hours and work environment.

This is a company where "tribal knowledge" will render your education useless. A lot of company veterans in charge making decisions and creating a poisonous work environment. Politics run this place, so follow orders blindly and be your boss's pet, or find another place to work.
The product is poorly designed but the skills and the expertise on the shop floor will save the day. Production personnel is some of the kindest and hardest working I have met. They are unionized and yes they are treated better.
Location is great if you live in the city, and work hours are decent. Summer and Winter shutdowns every year, so even if you have 2 weeks vacation to start, bank for 4 or 5.

Great benefits and pay is above average.

Week leadership on the shop floor.  Cell leaders and superintendent. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Staff are easy to work with. Place is clean and safety is priority.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Week leadership created a lot of quality issues and reworks. Difficult to get them interested in resolving issues implementing corrective actions.  Challenging to stay positive and moral issues having to deal with the same problems daily.

An established company with a big-company attitude, but mid-to-lower company sales & practices.  They pay well, but it is fast-paced, cut-throat, and stressful.  Frequent ownership changes in the past twenty years have led to poor fiscal management, departmental animosity, infighting, and a general lack of strategic direction.  Like GM, it has rested on its successes of 25+ years ago, only to watch the competition catch up and overtake it.  There are applaudable changes underway, but until the staff has confidence that the leaders are interested in the company's long-term outlook, the culture will continue to resist.

When I started with MCI, I was interviewed for a painting position. When they hired me they put me in assembly for my probation period. I was under the impression that after my probation they would transfer me to paint. That wasn’t the case. 

They are not interested in employee safety and you will be reprimanded if you talk to management about safety risks. Once you start to get close to your probation period ending, management goes out of their way to make your work life very unpleasant. If you apply for other work, MCI will not give information to a background check and will sabotage other gainful employment. 

Well, worked here a brief weeks. I’ve never been one to write these reviews but felt it might be worth writing this one. I initially applied and never heard back for weeks. One day I got a call and they jumped into an interview immediately on the phone, for a job I didn’t know existed anymore since it took so long. One of the questions they asked me is if I have a history with being sick, or taking leave off of work? Last I checked, workplaces and managers can’t ask about stuff like that? Didn’t leave a good feeling with me from the get-go but I needed work. I ended up resigning because it only got worse once I started. Wouldn’t recommend.
