The management at Mr.pets has purposefully created a laid back and inclusive work environment with self sufficient staff that get along well and assist each other. 

Management and employees independently pay attention to your knowledge and patiently give you opportunities to learn more about all departments within the store. This is a space where it is fun to learn and share information about various animals and the products targeted towards them.

There is plenty of downtime to connect with the staff, managers, and animals. There are difficult customers but the staff and management support you hands on with dealing with any issue at hand and are considerate of your mental well being as well.

If you’re thinking about applying here, don’t. Save yourself the trouble. Sure you get to work with animals & have casual conversations here and there, but for the amount you’re paid & the amount of work that needs to be done in a day, it’s not worth it. The owner only cares about how much money he can make, and doesn’t care about the staff at all. The average is 1 new hire per month due to this. If you try to ask for a raise you get a speech about how it’s an “entry level position “ regardless of weather you’re a base level employee, keyholder or management. If you’re passionate about animals & don’t care about money, this is the place for you but be prepared to be stressed out beyond belief. 

Little to no training what so ever on any products. I learned more from a non management coworker and customers than from training. Manager is terrible. I worked there for less than a year and 12 coworkers left before I did. I had to go back to the store months after I quite to get them to give me my information for my taxes. They cut back my hours to one day a week. And kept changing the procedures on how to do things like clean cricket cages, never updated non key holder staff on new livestock that was shipped in.

Daily tasks are fairly simple, really straight forward job
I have learned so much more about animals 
Management is alright, its a owned store with not many stores so management isn't strictly professional 
The hardest part of my job is trying to help customers with something I'm not educated on like fish. Training isn't great with products and animal care we should know.
Most enjoyable part of my job is being able to help costumers with what I know and taking care of the animals.

TERRIBLE time working at the North Vancouver store. ZERO training, rude management. Owner doesn't even like animals. You get in trouble in front of customers and coworkers, the manager gossips about her employees to other employees. She stalks her employees every moment too. It was a bad experience and I highly recommended finding somewhere else to work. Plus every day you'll find crack pipes or meth pipes outside the store, because its across the street of a homeless shelter.

Management and a couple higher-up employees are very rude.
I was one of the only staff there that actually knew how to care for reptiles, multiple fish, and the mammals.
Shifts were either very short or very long, and you do not get breaks other than a 30 minute lunch break unless you smoke or vape.
Unsanitary building and break room.

Management has lowest turnover I’ve seen ever,(same manager and assistant manager my entire time of 2.5years here)
Room for growth and pay increases, along with recognized hard work. 
Overall easy going place to work, they teach you everything you need to know, though Interest and passion in the pet industry is preferred.

Mr pets staff is amazing i definitely would consider working for them and suggest them to any of my friends.. I would say that I feel I belong .. I have a family there great friends 

If you love being around animals like I do then its amazing. Different animals every day and hearing stories from customers about their pets at home. Many cute stories and very easy to make friends

While I had fun working there, it appears the workers are very commonly burnt out, tired, and stuck on their feet all day. I loved my crew don’t get me wrong. Just wish we all had a little more time to relax.
