During the 7 years I worked there and in the two positions I worked in, the management changed several times. Loved most of the staff I worked with as a PSW and a lot of people I worked with as a RPN. There was always in-services to teach things related to the field and they paid for the CNO fee each year as a nurse, so that was nice. The environment was fast paced, the residents were great, but the workload continued to get higher, nothing was removed from the previous tasks and no extra staff to help with the high workload.

 Unfortunately the last few years the management contributed to a toxic environment and low moral in the facility. When you see the same place constantly hiring….beware!! The money was amazing (best pay in the city at a long term care facility) which kept a lot of the unhappy employees there, lots of turnover for those that couldn’t take it anymore. Very sad when you are seeing excellent long term employees leaving for sometimes lower paying positions just to leave the toxicity behind. Lots of bullying from upper management and if they didn’t like you, they worked hard to make your life miserable! They looked for reasons to get rid of anyone that they didn’t like from management to the base employees. At the end I was having anxiety attacks, night terrors and a lot of stress induced symptoms while at work….making more mistakes because I was being so closely watched as a RPN and coming back because I feared forgetting anything.  Hopefully things have changed since I left. Very little appreciation for the wonderful staff they have. Positive reinforcement and appreciation goes a very long way, but when your mistakes are constantly highlighted it makes you just hate to go to work! 

As a RPN, if have residents fall on your shift, palliative residents or are on a floor you just don’t know because you are bouncing all over being part time, that all adds to your workload and you should expect to be past the time your shift ends, without any additional pay, to complete all your charting. 

I miss many of my coworkers, but I am glad I left!! Life is too short for that nonsense and stress! 



The division I worked in was in a field that has struggled with adequate ministry funding, staffing and at times, challenging ministry regulations. 

Salary and benefits were good, especially for the area, but the high demands of the LTC field sometimes detracted from that. 

I was fortunate to have many opportunities over the years with CK to expand my knowledge and spread my wings, taking on new projects and gaining new experiences. Ultimately my career has been able to take a turn down a different path to the HR field as a result, which I am very grateful for. My time with CK, although very stressful and challenging at times, was well worth it. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Communication is amazing and when you report a problem they look into right away.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Noise complaints and traffic coming and going.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Can be hectic at times with noise complaints and constant company at all hours.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Like any other job. Could be busy or layed back.

This job required both in office and on the road daily.

As I had previous experience working in a Municipal setting, I had the opportunity to refine my skills as a secretary as well as learning different by-laws.

The people were a pleasure to work with both in office and the persons I had the opportunity to meet on the road.

This was a wonderful job made available to students in the municipality for summer employment. Working as an ambassador to the town was rewarding and there was always something to do to make our town look and feel better!

I currently work in a field that incorporates a team work environment working in  all types of weather. It is a company who promotes public relations and safety consciousness. The job requires the ability to multitask, and the safe use of traffic plans. The daily tasks vary greatly from asphalt pothole filling, yard pick up, road safety blocks, and many more options.

Operated a scale to weigh citizens and contractors waste load and charge them accordingly. (waste garbage, lumber, metal, drywall ect)
Crushed material with a front end loader and put material in a large metal bin, when full would be hauled away by BFI.

A typical day would be starting at 8 a.m and finishing up in the early afternoon.  Somedays coming back for shifts in the evenings.
Working with the Municipality was wonderful.  I learned many things through them.
The most enjoyable part of the job was working with seniors through to children.

A typical day at work includes a shift in the morning, afternoon, and after school. The children are great kids, and are respectable to my orders when it comes to busy traffic. The most enjoyable part is when the children say thank you and smile!

The day to day work environment was good. I learned excellent customer service skills. Anylitical problem solving skills were honed. The most enjoyable part of the job was working inter-departmentally with co-workers.
