Musashi Auto Parts

Musashi is a decent place to work as a production operator, offering fair pay and rotational shifts. It’s a good entry point for newcomers, especially immigrants like myself, even if your background is in mechanical engineering. I was hired through a job fair with the management’s assurance that this role could be a stepping stone into the company.

However, the company has significant career growth and internal promotion drawbacks. Despite applying repeatedly for technical roles posted on internal portals and attending interviews, I noticed a strong preference for hiring external candidates—often less qualified or experienced—over promoting internal staff. There is considerable internal politics, and opportunities seem limited or biased, especially across different plant locations (I work in Plant 2 but never got interview chances for Plant 1 openings).

Additionally, while the company claims to follow an “open book” policy, it’s unclear how some production operators transition into office roles without official openings. Some technical staff appear to lack the required experience or knowledge, which questions the fairness of the hiring practices.

Musashi is a reasonable place to start as a production associate. Still, this may not be the right company if you’re looking for growth or a transparent, merit-based environment.

They thrive on giving 100% to the customer which is good 
sometimes overlook safety in the workplace 
they have a motto called Quality Cost Delivery and Safety first 
just think Quality comes before Safety sometimes with the leaks on the floor. 
Typical day consists of fighting a losing battle when producing parts 
i.e.   machines keep stopping for the same issue time after time not enough people to fix the issues correctly first time rather than patch or quick fixes.
I have learned a lot there and thank them for that.

                   Management do not understand what employees go through every day and focus on Quality and production. Support is a big issue especially weekends, long weekends, and overnight the midnight shifts. Over the weekends is hard parts go on hold to be sorted for quality issues and come a Monday assembly are desperate for parts and in some cases they look at  of 12 of 2500
parts and pass them and then complain a week later that there is a claim !!!!!!!!!!!.
Co workers / hardest part. 
Team work is very important we work a 4 shift system and find all 4 shifts do not work together as a team no matter what is said froma higher management.
I enjoy going to work and working for a company that supply parts to the leading companies in the world when it comes to automotive 
when it comes to the above just seems a waste.

They punish people with - a 3 shift rotation - for being sick. a life threatening situation (in my case). The emphasis on team work, is just the opposite. You can't talk to a manager without being berated and insulted. You're forced to run things you never ran before - with no training - making stress in the extreme "I can't stand it here" result. Morale is non-existent. Cameras watch you on every line. Despite what they tell you, employees come last. If they phone you, they put you on a speaker phone so several people can hear you. The yearly survey is NOT anonymous - you are asked... your department, how long you've worked there, your age, how many kilometers away you live - you might as well sign it, and staple a picture of yourself on it. The survey results are always pro-company, as in people like to work there, (not anyone I've talked to). Speaking of pictures...there will be one photo of you put on the line you run (without your permissiom & invading your privacy), with writing underneath stating little extras you're supposed to do. So many extras have been added on over the years, that there's no time to do your actual job, causing injuries by rushing around all the time to keep up, but don't get hurt because it's always YOUR fault. Finally, their "Thank You" nonsense, is a joke and as impersonable as it gets. You will come to hate it there...and yes, I still work there - unfortunately - for over 15 years.

People there are toxic like the environment of work, too much gosibs, management encourage employees to spy on each other and report it (snitchers and eyes). attitude is there everywhere and with everyone. you're not gonna succeed in this place unless you know someone from the management. it is not about what do you do or how do you do your job even if you're a genious, but it is about who you know. you can feel what i wanna say when you are working in the place for 3+ years and a new employee just joined the company and you're training him of how to do the job, and then after 3 monthes, he becomes your supervisor !!!!!! just because he is a relative to one of the managers. Safety is just a slogan, they repeat this word in every and each meeting or gathering, but it is only a slogan, they dont move to to check safety only when someone is badly injured. 
Real toxic and abusive place, if you wanna suceed and grow with your company, if you believe in your skills, and experience, if you respect yourself DO NOT JOIN THIS ABUSIVE COMPANY.

Musashi has provided me with stable, competitively compensated employment, with excellent benefits, especially for our small community, for almost 20 years!

They use cutting edge automated equipment and invest heavily in both the plant and the community.

It is automotive so it is definitely fast paced but it is much nicer than comparable factories and they care about my safety and well being.  They provide lots of training & support for me to do my job.

The people there are great and the company uses reverse reviews to make meaningful improvements every year.

In Maintenance, the sky is the limit to what we can learn as we have many different manufacturing processes.  The challenge of fixing all the variety of machinery and working with our outstanding team is the most enjoyable part of the job.

Push, Push, Push. This job required to much Repetitive, Fast Heavy lifting. I sometimes wonder if it was more about getting the products out and less on the quality of the products.
At this company I learned what it took to make a camshaft, however I also learned what they pass as a good part. I also learned that you are not a person here you are a number. 
I was always taught that if I have nothing nice to say say nothing at all in regards to Management.
My co-workers were great fun people to work with which made a 12 hr shift enjoyable. they were friendly and if you had a problem you could usually ask someone on the line and they would help you out to the best of their knowledge.
The hardest part of this job for me was the heavy lifting.
I'd have to say the most enjoyable thought I had here was knowing there was a pay at the end.

Still and "old boys club" in 2021. Overtime expectations were too much, and also very quick to pull shifts when things are slow. Team Leaders are prone to favoritism and too many shouldn't be in positions of authority. Management is very authoritarian, but that depends on who you are. Spent millions on an employee surveillance system with multitudes of cameras and they are still quite clueless to what really goes on, particularly on off shifts. Very good benefits, including mental health counselling and and EAP. Just too bad they treat employees in a manner where they will need them.

With no real skills or education, it is a good place to establish yourself and make decent money.  Management is basically asleep at the wheel, so machines are poorly maintained and require a lot of work to make run.  Team leaders are for the most part happy to help, but are often overburdened as the machines do not run very well.  The social committee sets up tickets to blue jays games, company picnic in summer time, xmas party in november, and discounts for Canada's wonderland and bingemans.  Literally the best part about the job is the benefits.  They even pay 500 dollars toward snow tires every three years, and if you're looking to quit smoking they have a smoking cessation benefit.  Not terrible, but not great either.

Typical Japanese culture, were they ask for input, but would prefer that you "shut up" and did your job. 
For an automotive shop, their level of automation is good, however the level of maintenance is very low. Oil all over the place.
Their quality systems are substandard. There is little emphasis on process, and they rely on inspections and sorts to make sure that parts are in spec. It is "always" operator error that is the blame.
Wages are low, and employees are treated with disrespect. The low level of moral is astonishing.
They have a bad reputation, as they can not hire people, and have a worse time keeping the people they hire. New hires are often termination without reason or explanation.
The winter commute is "deadly" !!!!

Only stayed about three shifts discovered the money was rubbish for what was expected, running 3 CNC millers and 3 CNC lathes plus quality checks and tool changes all for $18 an hour. Was told at the interview I wouldn't be put on 12-hour shift "for a long while" but was on them within two days due to very high turnover! Some good people there and are very helpful plus a few insufferables also who have no problem telling you how brilliant they are. It would be a good place to get experience and then move to an employer who is willing to compensate you properly, I estimate operators there should be making $30 an hour at least. one positive is benefits are very good and subsidised cafeteria if you're lucky enough to be placed in the right mill,
