Muskoka Grown

I started working at Muskoka Grown a little over 1.5 years ago. I was initially hired as a production team member but I now work as a Production Captain (supervisor).

There is a great deal of change and movement within the company so if you’re someone who likes variety we’re the place for you! We have about 8 departments in the facility that are dedicated to different functions and it is not uncommon for someone to assist in different departments when the help is needed. 

When I started the company had recently changed owners and was going though many changes in structure and management. MG has grown as a company and a brand with our employee base more than doubling. The growth has included the introduction of new positions and a new shift (evenings 3:30pm-2am). 

We are a new company and we still have a lot of improving and growing to do. While this company may not be the highest paying company in the industry they are making active changes and listening to feedback from employees. 

This past year we have introduced a breakfast program of fruit and granola bars available in the lunchroom for all staff members as well as a hot lunch every other week. A part of our benefits is an allowance for mental health services. This is unique as a lot of companies have still not recognized this need and our coverage of this service was just recently increased.

Overall, I am proud to be part of Muskoka Grown and look forward to seeing where we’re headed in the future!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The employee for the most part, they are welcoming and most of them are understanding of mental health.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They will give you added responsibility with out raising your wages. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They work environment dependents on the department, for the most part you should expect and unrealistic amounts of cleaning.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You would clock in on the payworks app, sign in at security with your fob. When you walk into the doors you will change your shoes, then change them again before you go on the production floor, you should then receive instructions from your manager on what is happening for the day, but this information changes quickly and sometimes multiple times a day. You might be waiting a lot, due to the poor production management. This might include waiting for labels, product, sometimes even waiting for communication. You might be scaling weed, trimming weed, harvesting pants, labeling packing, or counting miscounted items, even correcting other people’s mistakes. There is a lot of counting.

The overall work is quite enjoying, if you can get over the fact that you have to clean and do repetive tasks. BUTTTT be prepared for present and future health problems as your engulfed with ISO and Chlorine fumes on the daily. The lights are also not great for you. You are expected to check your emails before you get to work to know what to do. Everyone is overworked there. You are often forced to push through product that consumers would NOT want to buy. The company also does not believe in having an HR department, although do not care about any inappropriate work behavior occuring or preventing it and tend to punish the victims. The company keeps bad workers but hands out severance pay due to unjust firing often.
The President of the Company attempts to push around employees, although does not follow basic Employee Standard Laws.  Overall, not a great place to work unless you can completely put your head down and be okay with drama, unfair treatment and much more going on around you. The wage is not worth the negativity. 

Management makes common growing mistakes, and takes it out on production staff when things go wrong.

They hire people with no experience, don’t train them properly, and then wonder why their turnover rate is so high.
The work environment is awful, employees constantly complain about management.
They even fired the HR dept and neglected to hire another.

The Master grower and grow manager need to go back to growing in their 4x4 tents and read a book or two on how to grow before trying to take on such a large operation.

The flower isn’t even smokeable, all the employees know that and wouldn’t be caught smoking it. 
They lie to their customers that new batches are improved, but they still burn horrible and smell awful.

The only products that they actually sell are bought in and repackaged, and even they are not great.

Perhaps they should become a packaging company in the future.


Since being given the opportunity to join Muskoka Grown in April 2022, I have had the privilege and honour of working alongside some of the best individuals in the cannabis space. 

Having previously helped to build a Larger LP from the ground up, through legalization, and beyond, I never thought I would have the chance to join another group of like-minded people, striving to overcome obstacles, solely focused on growing great cannabis, everyday!

Yes, there are challenges and there is adversity; but I can say with confidence that there is no single wall that the team at Muskoka Grown cannot overcome. Together we are learning, we are growing, and with time all of the hard work and dedication will pay off. 

If you have the opportunity to join the Muskoka Grown team, I recommend seizing the opportunity, whatever you are able to put into Muskoka Grown will be rewarded over time. 

To date this is the most supportive company I have ever worked for. Its a growing company to watch all the positive changes to productivity and seeing more and more product going out the door and the team effort that goes with it has been special. I recommend working here have had nothing but good experiences.  Don't get me wrong there has been some bumps in the road but new management have been smoothly dealing and keeping us in the loop. If you are looking for full time with benefits physical work and a good group of people to work with this is it. 

Easily the worst job I’ve ever had. EASILY! (in caps!) As someone who had never worked in the cannabis industry before I was so excited about its potential and the possibility of establishing a career I could grow and excel in... Muskoka Grown failed on every level for me. It was a joke. They were ignorant, untruthful and doing things that defied common sense; I actually have zero respect for the company and the people who run it, which is a shame because it’s a great name and logo.. but that’s about all they have to offer. They don’t care about you, your happiness, well-being or even what skills you can bring to the table as an employee. If you want to avoid a job that makes you want to tie yourself a noose at the end of the day I’d skip on this one!

This is by far the best place I have ever worked!  I started in the Sanitation dept, like everyone else at that time, and quickly moved to Flower/Harvest/Packaging and now I am in Sales.  It is by no means an easy job as some days you do nothing but cleaning but, on other occasions, you sit there and scale weed while listening to music.  The teamwork environment is amazing and everyone tries there best to make sure that all have a voice.  For those that are looking to choose the cannabis industry for a career, there is no better place to start.  Passionate, driven individuals who aren't afraid to ask questions will find no upper limit to how far they can go.

I joined the Muskoka Grown team with a desire to learn and develop within the Cannabis industry. I have the opportunity to be a positive influence as a Manager, and enjoy watching the team grow as we build the Muskoka Grown brand! It’s not like any other place I’ve worked before, as it is exciting and has a great team atmosphere. The passion and hard work that goes into everything from propagation to harvesting to packaging to sanitation is amazing and displays a sense of pride that is very rewarding at the end of the day.  I feel grateful and encourage those seeking a new employment path to check out what Muskoka Grown has to offer!  

I left a company i had been with for a long time to come here.   I find the employees friendly and energetic and super helpful.  Some days are stressful but for the most part days are laid back and casual.  They are patient with new employees as they are learning new skills.  
Like any place you are expected to show up each day and work--whatever that entails for the day.  There are a few sour grapes in the bunch but if you do your work and stay away you will have no problems there.
I would recommend working here if you enjoy a family environment, weekends off, benefits and meeting dome great people.
