As a Customer Engineer, you are required to meet targets (metrics) that are unreasonable unless you manipulate the system which most of us do in order to get a good performance review and possibly a raise.
The job is demanding, working days, afternoons, weekends and holidays. We are always short staffed and/or training.
Immediate manager (TM) is usually understanding and will work with you should you have any issues (Manager is usually a former CE whose been promoted) however upper management should probably spend a few weeks out in the field to grasp a good concept of what the daily routine consists of instead of continually adding more responsibilities to the job. 
Education is more important here than experience. For example, someone in the field with 5,10,15 years of experience will earn/start less then someone just hired with a technical education/degree. Training of new equipment is always offered/given, issue is, there's never allotted time given to complete a course and/or your fellow co-workers suffer the consequences by having to pick up the workload. 
The pay and benefits are fair, not impressive and less than other companies in the same field. Ask for more, expect less and annual raises are 1%-3% at best regardless of performance.
Company vehicle (GPS tracked) provided for work use only, no personal (a perk that was taken away).
Cons far out weigh the pros, I would use this company to gain experience and then move on


Despite the company's messaging portraying care and support for its employees, the reality couldn't be more different. My experience working there was marred by a manager who consistently exhibited rude and toxic behavior towards me and other employees, with no repercussions despite numerous reports to HR. The lack of concern for employee well-being was evident in the poor communication throughout the organization. Inquiries about whom to contact for assistance were often met with frustration or dismissiveness.

The company's help center, touted as the backbone of support for both US and Canadian operations, fell short due to inadequate training, earning it the unfortunate nickname of "unhelpful support line." This issue has persisted for over two years and continues to this day.

Expectations placed on employees were unreasonably high, accompanied by unnecessarily tight deadlines, yet compensation fell well below industry standards. Additionally, the health benefits program provided minimal coverage, leaving employees with little support for their well-being.

In summary, I strongly advise against seeking employment with this company. The negative experiences far outweigh any potential benefits, and regret is almost inevitable for anyone who joins their ranks.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at NCR is that you don't have someone behind you all the time, you work alone, they give you a van and you travel around the city fixing machines.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The work is not stressful at all. The only thing I complain about is that they could pay us more.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You don't have too much work environment because it's you only, you get in touch with other people only by teams or mail, and they are cool.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You start your shifts with tkts in your cellphone, you don't have to go to the office and pick up the van because they allow you to take it home, so you don't spend in gas, then you plan your route and try to fix machines as much as possible, when is slow you can have one or two tkts in the day, and do nothing the rest of the time, when is busy you only have time to take your break. Then you return home with the van.

I was a contract worker both for building and testing ATMs, so I'm not the person to read if you're looking for a full time permanent position. 

I adored my two contract positions at NCR, the teams I worked with both times were wonderful and we had great laughs and conversations every single day. The job was well paid relative to what it was and it even came with some benefits if you worked there for over 3 months. Even though we weren't officially part of the NCR "scene" we still got invited to all the holiday lunches and ice cream days.

The job itself could be stressful at times as sometimes you had to deal with the same errors and breaks over and over again, but that comes with the territory and was quickly dwarfed by the positive work environment and the people I worked with.

My supervisors on both jobs were friendly, approachable and good listeners. If you had a complaint they listened and genuinely wanted to help. I was sad to leave NCR both times when my contract ended. If they have any contract work again I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Executive management is too focused on profit at the expense of the customers. In my division, customers are fleeing en-masse.

My Manager, Director and immediate team are amazing. Other areas  are not pulling their weight and play the "blame game" all the time. If they only put that much effort into doing their jobs, things would be better there.

Only the laziest people get promoted. With my team, work/life balance is as OK as it can be for an IT job that requires off hours maintenance and on-call rotation.

Unless you need experience or are desperate to pay the bills, don't bother with NCR.

I worked at NCR for several years. The only positive thing about it is the salary - which is decent for this industry. And while the work itself may be very interesting and provide positive experience, the atmosphere is very stressful. Many managers have no people's skills for the job, they resolve workplace problems by intimidation of their subordinates, micro-managing and creating an environment of uncertainty. Initiative is not welcome and often frowned upon. Swearing and demeaning co-workers is common and collaboration is not on the list. Also, there is no job security as most of the positions have already been outsourced. Overall, I suggest to stay away from NCR, unless it would be a great career move that wouldn't require to stay there for more than a year.

Fixing ATM and retail machines.  Fun to learn but horrible working conditions with low pay.  You work rotating shifts from 7 am to midnight and drive all the time.  Very low pay for a lot of stress and physical injury because of how heavy ATM equipment is.  

The biggest insult is if you're scheduled to work on a weekend and want to go on vacation for two weeks, you still have to come in for that weekend in the middle of your vacation.

Mandatory overtime is something this company does a lot so you basically work a lot just to get normal salary.

Best thing to do is to get training on retail and bank machines and then leave.  They have employees leaving left and right and they don't care.

Stay away from this company unless you want to be injured and humiliated.  You also lose your hearing.





Working at NCR gave me valuable hands-on experience in IT support, customer service, and leadership within a large global organization. I had the opportunity to lead a 24/7 support team, work with high-profile clients like McDonald’s and Wendy’s, and handle complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.

NCR provides a structured support framework, clear escalation processes, and opportunities to grow into leadership roles. I gained strong skills in troubleshooting, process improvement, and team coordination. One of the highlights was mentoring new agents and helping improve overall team performance.

While the workload could be demanding, especially during major rollouts or client escalations, it taught me how to stay organized, manage pressure, and remain client-focused.

Call is received from SCI where details regarding issue at Canada Post location are discussed and emailed.

Arriving on-site speak to manager/employees about issue called in, and call made to check in with support desk. 

Machinery is diagnosed and as per instructions (depending on issue), procedure is followed to uninstall and solve issue with parts provided. 

If issue not able to be directly solved, support desk will try aiding the situation, if can not be solved, the issue will be escalated to try better fixing problem. 

When issue is resolved, call is made complete, time check out with support desk and service call is complete.

typical day at work was  a 7am to 3 day shift
learned how to use a map to send technicians to a work place to provide service to a scanner or bank machine that was down.
the Management there changed often and the co workers were fun to work with and we got along well ...the hardest part was when there were too many scanners or bank machines down we didn't have enough technicians to send out and other times there were too many and no jobs ....the most enjoyable part of the job was the communication I had with the techs we were just like family
