I've been working for nsha for multiple years. There are great jobs in the company. Being apart of the union means you can apply to any of the jobs without feeling guilt from management, it's your right. HIS department management is the worst, very absent, no support, work is extremely boring and unnecessary (hours with nothing to do). Health records has mean girl energy. Lots of gossip in all the departments. People will get you in trouble for the smallest things. Some of the people are wonderful but it can be very catty and you really need to watch who you say  certain things too. Some departments are so over worked and short staffed it makes it hard for staff to have a work life balance. Feels like staff are pitted against each other at times. Management doesn't care who is working as long as there is someone. New staff are training new staff, it just causes so many problems and managers do not care. 

Pay as a casual is higher than the average for the area, however, as a casual, you have no guaranteed hrs which means you have to be constantly available to take any shifts. Depending on the department it can take over a decade to gain guaranteed full-time employment. Once you are full-time once you consider that a large part of your payment will go to benefits and pension the salary isn't even high.

The work was fast-paced and hard on the body and you are exposed to a disgusting and dangerous work environment. You are expected to go full tilt your entire shift and are often understaffed. 

The worst part however is your coworkers, workplace bullying is commonplace, and won't be addressed by management unless you go out of your way to bring it up. Being yelled at or berated by coworkers is commonplace and constantly hearing your coworkers bad-mouthing a coworker is exhausting.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Experiences were good learning and career development tools.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of support. Poor management. Lack of management accountability. Upper management never around, and hard to contact. Middle management harassment and manipulation, and too much power. Skills not as important as who you know. Negative work culture. Not enough staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Most toxic place I have ever worked.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Incredibly stressful and unsupportive. Negative and toxic environment and every day something else adding to stress. Workload often unrealistic and dangerous.

Supportive environment. Good staff to work with . The hospital staff was friendly and attentive. From the receptionists to the nurses and doctors, everyone made an effort to ensure I felt comfortable and well-cared for during my stay.
The medical facilities were modern and well-maintained. I appreciated the cleanliness and organization of the hospital, which contributed to a more pleasant environment for patients.
The medical team demonstrated expertise and professionalism. They took the time to thoroughly explain my condition and treatment options, answering all my questions with patience and clarity.
I noticed efficient coordination among different departments, which contributed to a smooth and timely process during my tests and procedures.

Once hired the on boarding can take some time. HR is slow to communicate. But, once orientation starts its worth it! As with any workplace there can be drama amongst staff and some power struggles but we all work as a team and the unit I'm on the co-workers are like a second family. Pay rate is above average and lots of chances to pick up over time if you want it. Management isn't great at communication with staff but it is something that's being worked on. I will say with the many years of work experience I have it's the best place I've worked and the health benefits and pension are amazing compared to others I've had.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Colleagues are great to work with. The personal satisfaction of just caring and helping people in difficult times is just so rewarding.

Hours can be taxing, patients can be demanding but that’s what you sign up for when taking a job.

The work environment can be hectic and unpredictable but if you’re team player each day can be rewarding. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, emotional and d demanding but rewarding.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Amazing coworkers, excellent union representation, allows for transfer between departments, ability to earn lots of holiday hours. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Hard to navigate the massive system of who to contact for paperwork and the staffing hierarchy. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In my department it's very friendly and casual. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy but with mandatory 30 minute breaks, lots of chance to socialise with coworkers and fairly low supervision.

I have worked for NSHA for many years ansits slides downhill every year. Managers don’t care about there employees only there own professional advancement. There is no such thing as patient centered care. Non existent relationships between floors. Constant revolving doors of employees. 

Staff in some areas of the hospital are very rude and hard to work with. Very clique like atmosphere with lots of bullying. Management in the past has been informed and joined in on the bullying instead of trying to stop it. If it wasn't for the security and needing money to live, I would not continue working there.

I enjoyed the fast paced ever changing environment, supervisor was pleasant and approachable.  The downside was the non working chairs or available basic office supplies, the air quality, dirty floors.  Workplace culture was different, some senior permanent staff didn't seem  helpful or friendly.  Most enjoyable was helping people book their appointments.
