If you like driving all day, and don’t mind smelling like a rubber factory when you come home, this may be the job for you!

NTD is generally a good-ish place to work. Co-workers are laid back and friendly. The pay is half decent, as far as delivery jobs go. The benefits and RRSP plans are pretty average. Employees get great discounts for up to five sets of tires a year.

The work culture was great when I started out. There were barbecues, pizza parties, truck rodeos, free coffee, swag giveaways etc. By the time I left most of that stuff wasn’t happening nearly as often, I’m assuming the bean counters in head office had something to do with that.

The work is pretty straight forward. Load up your truck with tires, follow an assigned route and make your deliveries. In between delivery runs drivers are expected to help with warehouse duties, such as sweeping or helping unload trailers. Most drivers shirk these duties however and get away with it.

The trucks and vans you get to drive are well maintained. Depending on what warehouse you work at you may be lucky and have a truck assigned to you. Driving conditions can be hazardous during the winter, although management will pull drivers off the road if the conditions are deemed unsafe to drive in. NTD does put a big emphasis on safe driving habits, your habits will be reviewed monthly by your peers. 

Winter tire season is the busiest season for the tire industry. If you’re lucky you may be able to make some overtime, although by the time I left OT was tightly controlled and not as plentiful as it used to be, due to head office interference. The busy season begins usually early October, spikes during the first snowfall, and dies off around Christmas. January-March is the slowest time of the year, and most likely when layoffs will occur. Spring can get a little busy, but nothing like the insanity you experience during the fall.

Management is alright. They’re very understanding and laid back if you need time off. They allow you to work independently and aren’t slave drivers. When I first started they would take you out to any restaurant you wanted for your birthday and buy you lunch, but again as time went on that disappeared.

My biggest gripe with NTD is corporate/head office. They cannot be trusted and do more to serve themselves than their employees. A great work culture was slowly eroded away over time. They claim there is room to move up, but only if you’re one of the lucky ones to survive a layoff. Very poor job security, no matter how much they claim to care about employees, corporate considers you expendable. Be weary if you get a great raise or bonus, you might become a target for liquidation.

In short, NTD is one of the better driver jobs you can get for someone looking for a delivery job and doesn’t have a DZ. Many of the perks are disappearing but at least the company values safety. Just don’t get invested in NTD, because you could be left jobless at the drop of a hat. 

Do you make sure you're at work everyday sick or healthy and on time? Do you value you hard work ethics? If so don't work for NTD in London Ontario! Most of the co-workers are some of the best people,  most of the management on the other hand are some of the worst people I have ever worked for.  One manager is incredibly demeaning, looks for any reason to get you in trouble and specifically the warehouse supervisor is an absolute nightmare of a human being.  He will constantly verbally harass people for no other reason but because he himself is miserable, he will consistently accuse you of things you didn't do so it's recommended that you keep your own reports of your actions to protect yourself against this company, because the branch manager sitting in his little square office if he's even there because most of the time he's never at work we'll take his word for it without fact-checking anything, he is one of other problems among them. Management consistently pics on employees at this location and he does not do his job of reprimanding and holding his own managers accountable, if you come to him with the supervisor is verbal harassment he will tell you just to "deal with it because that is the way he is", but he will threaten you all day with formal write-ups for not doing things properly about the very tasks he refuses to actually train you to do. It is Highly Questionable among the management style at this location and the possible meanings behind it for it is widely known that the branch manager is the tenant in a landlord relationship with that supervisor. If you decide to take a career with this company do not trust the management they will leave you high and dry every time, they will pay you and treat you the exact same as some of the biggest liability employees in that company.

Great and friendly people to work with, the job is very physical and if you prove yourself job security can be pretty good, assuming the company doesn't make the mistake of laying off half the employees again like when 2020 hit. Management on the warehouse level is overall pretty good and respond to safety concerns well, however they seem to be hampered by upper management, with a seeming inability to give out raises, and promotions are almost nonexistent unless you're lucky or have a degree. Expect that if you work hard at your position, you'll stay in the exact same place indefinitely.

The winter rush is where the money is, overtime is generally expected. Can be extremely stressful at times, especially on evening shift. The comradery is real during these times.

With wages, I was hired on as a temp at $17, when I was full on hired I made $17.50 with a $.70 shift premium for evening shift. Upon going to days I lost my premium, and in 2020 we received a "wage adjustment" up to $18.36 an hour. I received no discretionary raises. 

There is as of relatively recently a warehouse wide bonus which is dependent on whether the trucks go out on time.

Overall NTD is a decent place to work, with lots of good people and plenty to learn if you're keen and insistent, however things fall flat in the long term, which has led to a hemorrhaging of some of the best people, which is a trend I expect to continue unless things drastically change. 

A typical day at NTD for me consisted of picking tire orders I had been assigned, loading driver's vehicles, and then repeating this two more times. When orders did not need picking, I would assist my co-workers with putting away returns and newly received products. 
Working at NTD taught me that I have a strong work ethic and to not compare my work-load to others as each individual has a different expectation of themselves at work.
The management was professional, but knew how to connect with employees and kept the work environment fun. When the busy-time hit, you could rely on management to step up and assist with the daily tasks within the warehouse to help avoid over-working or burn-out of employees.
The hardest part of the job is being able to keep up with orders in the winter-time, which is the busy season. 
The most enjoyable/rewarding parts of the job is the sweat-equity you get. The physicality of the job allows you to go home tired - you truly feel like you earned your paycheque. The job helps you stay in decent physical shape - especially in winter when you're picking and putting away thousands of tires a day.

We did our work and went home , we picked tires for customers or any other product a customer needed , loaded the express vans that delivered to customers , it was laid back but work also got done . It was more so harder when i first started , I unloaded transfer trucks and shipment containers of product . Busy season was busy season , I learned so much there how to use the networking system how to use order pickers , achieved more than i ever thought I would working there . I started as a temp and was hired on thru the company so I definitely  had to earn my worth per say was the hardest part of working there and i absolutely loved the job compared to any other job i've ever worked .

Workload would rise and decline depending on the seasons (months leading to winter season would see increase in load).  Fun people to work with except there was a bit of a rivalry between day and evening shift. Management was good with a couple flaws like rare instances of inconsistent managing. Co-workers were helpful and friendly. Most enjoyable part of the job is a bit of a laid-back atmosphere at times, hardest part was bursts of strenuous labour when for example multiple containers would show in short time with some having schedules to keep and needing to be unloaded swiftly.

NTD has been a place where I have been able to grow and develop as a person and as a Leader. I have been supported by my boss and by my peers. I have received multiple promotions and offered many opportunities to learn. My team is strong and dedicated and we have a culture of inclusivity where I am heard, supported and respected. NTD provides support to Canadian communities through local tire donations and truck delivery services. NTD has been named the Top Employer of Hamilton- Niagara 2 years in a row and a Burlington Business of Excellence award winner.   

warehouse supervisor says the drivers are useless and they don’t do anything, yet the drivers are on the most dangerous highway for hours at a time and then have to be happy face to face to customers, the average day for the drivers in 10-12 hours... the warehouse supervisor expects the drivers to do the exact same job that his warehouse guys are doing when they aren’t doing deliveries, but all the warehouse guys get to leave after 8.5 hours.... so the drivers work longer days and are expected to do 2 jobs? While the warehouse guys work 8.5 hours and never get on the road?

A typical day at work is uninviting.
What you learn, if anything, is mostly on your own.
Management cares about paper rather than people.
There is no resemblance of workplace culture.
The hardest part of the job is coming in the next day hoping to be ignored and allowed to just work and go home.
When there is inclement weather, employees with vehicles will be required to stay later than those without on the basis that "The trip home will take longer than most driving, even if the bus is waiting there nice and warm." Regardless, those with vehicles will clearly have to clean the snow off as well as warm them up as well as worry about the drive considering they pay insurance etc etc etc.

In a typical day we were usually busy and  there was always more to learn about new tires coming out and helping our customers make the best choices for their customers so that everyone is happy.  My co-workers were great, everyone helped each other when needed as there is always something to learn from each other, or to help problem solve situations for for our customers. I learned a lot, considering I knew nothing about the tire industry when I started but I learned very quickly and was always up for doing more research or courses to learn more.
