Working with National Diabetes Trust was ok, but would only recommend if you would like to learn how to drive a larger straight truck 20', for experience and would be moving on to getting your AZ/DZ licence. It's for experience only.  Management is very lacking and unorganized,  bonuses are Nill, and signing bonus is also nill as you could be let go before your probationary period to receive said bonus. Trucks are uninsured on the road and often in disrepair and in the shop, if not in the shop, they are not roadworthy and drivers are made to drive them. Expectations of pickups are unrealistic interms of driving time and load pickup, which affect s your performance and hence bonuses. VERY physical job, so you MUST be fit. Communication between management and drivers and Value Villiage deliveries, Numbers are off and change, making it difficult to complete a route in a timely manner. Drivers a severely underpaid.
Complaints have been filed against this company. 
The other drivers are great and have a great comrodery and understanding of troubles they all face, helping out when needed and having eachothers back like a brotherhood.
Again, of you are looking ONLY for experience driving  larger vehicle/Straight truck,  this can help, but only that. 

I quit my desk job to get out and make a difference. Once I got the phone call for an interview the lady from HR said I should just keep my desk job once I told her I worked all week to finish my 2 weeks notice. I had to argue to get my interview secured and once I went for the interview I was hired on the spot. There was a $2,000 sign on bonus which they failed mention is paid out in portions of $500 / 4 months worked.
The hiring paperwork stated I would receive a uniform and my probation was 1 month.

4 months into employment we only just now received a uniform and my bonus was delayed another month. My manager recently told me I have no vacation days until I finish my SIX month probation.. which is news to me.

Advancement seems impossible as we had an opening for a supervisory position recently and the management team decided to hire out instead of promote within, which to my understanding is something thats normal to see.

My hiring paperwork stated I would be working 4 - 10hr shifts weekly and only today did I receive a formal notice this will be taking place the following week, signed by my manager however this has been the idea for over 4 months and I personally have averaged 10hrs / day - roughly 6 days a week with no overtime pay and 23% Tax deduction = 1,100 bi-weekly on a good pay day.

Current Senior Management TG has lost sight on pre-existing company culture.  Continued disintegration of benefits.  Senior Management has unrealistic expectations of salaried staff; based on 35 hour work week; but 70 hours an accurate weekly expectation (140 hours bi-weekly).  N.TG wants productivity while playing on Yammer.  Expensive dining on charity budget.  Unequal compensation package.  Employees working outside of Standard Operating Procedures are rewarded handsomely while those working within Policy are ignored. Incoming staff are frequently compensated more than staff currently on payroll.  Inability to take annual vacation allotment in any one year.  National Company focused on the culture and events related to Toronto; with little acknowledgement of the challenges facing outside of Greater Toronto Area.  Departments within company do not communicate.  N.TG Senior Management continues to fails to respond to communication requests of subordinates..  This is not a disgruntled employee, love the job, we are discussing the current reality in 2018 heading into 2019.  2018 has been a fiscal failure.  Current N.TG management likely to do same in 2019.  National Charity in Death Throes.

they do not honour employee contracts, threaten to fire people who insist their contract be honoured.
they offer promotions and raises in exchanged for taking on extra work and once you agree to the extra work they rescind the offer of promotion, raise.
management actively punishes employees that stand up for rights.
management will send you into dangerous conditions and condescend and insist you continue when you report that the conditions are so dangerous you can not safely continue.
pay is low, employee turnover was very high, they ask employees to pay out of pocket for things the company forgot or failed to pay for.
they are incredibly disorganized, they communicate horribly.

as for the work, mostly unsupervised, semi casual dress code, driving a truck with heat, ac and radio, lifting maybe 500-1000 lbs across the day onto a truck then from truck to trailer.

i liked the work but by god if management wasnt actively trying to be the worst they could possibly be. 

on a typical day I would contact customers to see if they would like a pick up of used clothing or articles which we then sold to be used for funding. I mapped out routes on the computer for the drivers. Supervised their daily pickups. Used word excel and excess to graph and chart daily operations. Recieved donations from the public. Answered phones and handled complaints and inquiries

The hardest part of my job occured with a management shift. The manager who hired me was shortly fired thereafter and it took awhile for them to hire another manager at which time myself and 1 other employee were left to operate the office.
My issue with this was that it required more hours of my time to insure everything continued to run smoothly and I was reprimanded by upper management. I was only hired as a part time employee but ended up with full time hours because of the lapse in management and they were concerned they would have to start to pay me benefits. There was no appreciation for the work and dedication.

If you have never worked in a call centre before, I can see why you'd have a bad time. Call centres aren't for everyone. As someone who has worked several years in call centres, here's my opinion:

PROS
- You can work from home (and therefore play simple games to get through the day-to-day monotony of the job). 
- The hours are flexible and they do work around your availability. Really good for students.
- Periods of OT every three months or so if you want it
- Short shifts, which helps with how repetitive it is. I couldn't do this job for 8 hours straight
- Pretty lenient when it comes to the script and attendance. They don't expect brilliance. Just don't drop the ball too often.
- You can take your break whenever you feel like

CONS
- You need to at least work every second weekend
- Very unlikely that you'll get the monthly bonus
- Super repetitive, more than I was used to, even though I came from a call centre
- No time between calls; you will be talking the entire shift
- I have never seen an e-mail regarding an opportunity for advancement
- No performance based raises

It's a job where you're terribly abused and threatened by the clientele. It's very stressful.  You don't realize how very stuck in a rut you are with this job until you finally manage to get away from it! 

-Unachievable bonus, no matter how you try, this bonus remains forever elusive!

-Don't expect any praise from management when you do well, instead they'll chew you out for small things.

-They tell you you can choose your own hours, but that's not at all true.  You'll end up working every single weekend, and after refusing many social events with family and friends, your family and friends no longer ask you because heck, you have to work.
 
-No benefits at all and max 29 hours per week.  You can't afford to get sick because there's no money for prescriptions or meds.  Be prepared to work when you're sick if you live alone.

-Raises are pretty elusive too, they call them merit increases, DO NOT fill out a negative company feedback prior to raise time, you will not get a raise!!

Management is incompetent, they struggle to perform basic tasks and will lash out or blame others if confronted. 

They regularly fail service the locker (which means you dont get paid) 

They regularly fail to pay you on pay day or within the contractually agreed timeframe. 

They outright REFUSE to pay you after missing a pay. And it can be 1-3 weeks before you receive your overdue pay, all the while they will blame other people and lie to you that they are trying to fix it but when pushed will ultimately refuse to pay you. 

They will also argue with you that your bills are unimportant. Have a car payment or need food to eat? Not their problem. 

The pay is pitiful. Will barely cover your expenses. Expect to be 2-3 grand in the hole before receiving your first pay.  Do NOT expect to make a profit in the first six months. 
Anticipate them failing to pay you on a regular basis. 



I'm almost 60,retired and working two days a week which works out to about 35-40 hours every two weeks.Only full time drivers get benefits.They expect a lot from the drivers,it's very hard physical work gathering donations,filling and emptying,by hand,cube trucks daily and trying to meet quotas....8-14 hour shifts day or night...hardest physical job I've ever had really but that's one of the reasons I took it ,but be prepared ...if you aren't in good shape you will be after working here for 6 months.The exercise angle keeps me going but I can't say I enjoy working here,some days can be quite stressful and the trucks are old.Basically you will be gathering donations from households and bins,filling and emptying by hand a 16 foot cube truck into storage trailors in all weather conditions every shift.Thats the job in a nutshell and you ll sweat)

Extremely hard place to work! Management is horrible,  they make you feel horrible and not worthy regularly for the smallest thing you didn't do correctly but never praise for the good work and promises of donations you get.  There is no way to achieve bonuses,  it is not our fault on the phones if a donor forgets to put out donation or if the driver is unable to pick up at the scheduled time. 

You take much more abuse for the clients than they will tell you,  they make you believe these people are life time donors and are warm and kind when you call.  This is not true.  You are sworn on and screamed at during every shift multiple times.  

Hours are few in the slow times,  have to pick up whatever extra you can to make ends meet.  This means taking more hours during the holidays and busy seasons,  and missing out on family time.  

If you really need the job and money,  its worth the try,  but never stop sending resumes and trying to get away from here.
