What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at NBCC is being part of a supportive and inclusive team where I feel valued. I am continuously learning and able to contribute meaningfully to student success while growing professionally in a positive, community-focused environment.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is when a student asks for help and I truly want to support them, but I’m limited by policy or my role, for example, when a student requests a payment extension beyond what’s allowed after a payment plan has been given, and I have to explain that I can’t go beyond the set guidelines.

The workplace was very flexible during the first few years of the pandemic. There was a diverse and friendly array of colleagues, and the environment was friendly and comfortable. There were opportunities for Professional Development, the health plan premiums were mostly decent.

Pay bands may need to be looked at. Poor communication from management, they do not seem to have a clear idea of what is going on. Multiple managers with conflicting information and expectations. Criticism for not being a mind-reader or not knowing information that was unavailable. Unrealistic workload expectations.

On a typical day at work I would be maintaining or installing electrical equipment. The staff I worked with were great because every day I learned something new that would make the next day more exciting than the last. The hardest part of my job was being given pieces of equipment that I knew nothing about. I would then have to implement the equipment into new processes to optimize the efficiency of it. The most enjoyable part of my job was always learning new things and getting to use what I learned in a practical way.

The interview process, though back in 1986, was fair and sought to extract one's technical knowledge from a panel of educators, and without intimidation. At least one panel member was specialized in the jurisdiction of the job requirements. 

The work environment was appropriate to the trades skill being taught, both in equipment, maintenance and peer support.

No rules in place for instructor/student relationships so you will find Inappropriate involvements of instructors dealing with student issues with other faculty. There is no expectation of professionalism if staff. 
 You are expected to favour certain students and give free passes based who they are related to and which instructors they are friends with. 
You are expected to put in very long hours with not much prep time and very heavy workloads. 
Fair treatment is not to be expected there.

I absolutely loved working for this college, the students were amazing and the co-workers were very good people. Working there felt like being part of thier family.

I loved being busy and having so many things to do, but the worst part about this job was not being able to finish all the work in the same day, because there was just so much to do.

I also enjoyed working for my boss because she appreciate the work I did and always treated me as an equal.

Students were great. They were there because they wanted to be there. They were enthusiastic and well motivated. Other staff members were very supportive and helpful, very approachable and never appeared bothered by my questions/queries. Management was likewise very approachable and cooperative but not at all overbearing or intrusive.

Very good honest hard work. Lots of team work and motivation. Most of the time everyone was well looked after.In extremely stressful moments overall at the end of the work day it was very gratifying.

During my time as a Night School instructor I was not able to meet many members of the regular staff, but those I did work with were exceptional individuals.  Many of the staff were always willing to offer insight and help into any issue that arose in the classrooms.  

Responsable for teaching civil engineering students. I gave me the opportunity to improve my teaching skills while doing research on new construction and engineering materials, equipment and technologies.
