You're told in the interview that you get generous benefits, including vacation pay up to 6-7 weeks, Stats, group medial benefits, etc. Even if the pay isn't high as opposed to the average pay in the industry. However, you're actually hired as a contract worker, who isn't entitled to any benefits. Group benefits will be available after 6 months of work, but you will need to pay out of pocket. What happens is after one year of employment, the management team will then decide whether you're a good fit for the permanent positions. Then, you will have access to benefits. This is a good job for recent graduates, who would like to test the water in behaviour therapy.  

it is unfortunate, that this place has so much potential. The front-line staff is incredible and the clients are amazing, the facility is a great size. the clinical director is toxic and unprofessional  Staff were often terrified of her, myself included and when feedback is provided she responds with threats of termination and punitive procedures. The workplace was difficult due to this nature and dealing with the clinical director was the hardest part of the job. The clients and staff were the most enjoyable part of this job. I learned a lot about dealing with challenging behaviours. Management needs a new clinical director. 

Upper management at the children's centre is constantly absent and unreliable.

When they do contribute, they criticize and threaten front-line staff and only contribute re-actively.

When you are hired, they imply a sense of collaboration and teamwork but when there are opportunities for troubleshooting and problem solving - unless you're a part of upper management - you quickly learn to remain quiet.

Like with most poorly managed non-profits, they weaponize your investment in the children and the community, to excuse their inadequacies but fail to do right by their clients and employees.  

Poorly run, mismanaged and stuck in their ways - just look at prior reviews.

This place sounds great on paper, but in reality it is anything but great. The compensation is very low, especially when they expect front line staff to act as BCBA's.  Promotions are typically reserved for individuals who are liked on a personal level.  There is obvious favouritism by having some rules for one group and another set of rules for others. They also love to bring up policies and procedures.  However, the document is nowhere to be found.   There is also a lot of mixed messages when senior management says one thing one day and  the next day its the exact opposite.   It is obvious gaslighting and one needs a lot of mental strength to not leave with some sort of trauma.  


New Haven operates similar to a typical classroom.  The students are in school from 9-3 and the instructors have from 8-9 and 3-4 to prepare materials and graph daily data.  It is a great place for a new graduate to learn and start their career.  However, it is very unlikely for someone to move up the ladder as there are limited senior roles  (and sometimes favouritism).

If you are lucky enough, you'll get to be in a classroom with a great group of people who will make working at NH fun!  The hours are great (8-4) and you are not required to work on weekends.

The clients and overall program are fantastic. The training is thorough and great (when not rushed because they are so short staff they need to everyone in-chair immediately). However, management models and praises poor work/life balance. The earlier you arrive and later you stay the better. Sick days ALWAYS require a doctors note, and taking one is heavily frowned upon. There’s lots of vacation BUT it’s all predetermined (save for 2-3 personal days), and when you compare the salary to other companies it does not work out the better deal.  


I have had the pleasure of working at New Haven for almost a year and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. As an IT, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to various projects and collaborate with talented colleagues. 

The staff and coordinator and super helpful and understanding. If you have a problem, they will ease your trouble and help you find solutions. 

During my time I got to enhance my understanding and skills in this field thanks to staff and coordinators. 

It can be a fun a rewarding place to work, especially with the right coworkers. There are a variety of ages and abilities to work with so you have to opportunity to learn a lot. There is a high turnover rate due to the high expectations versus low pay compensation and little room to grow. Management do not seem to value retaining staff, saying everyone is replaceable, which negatively impacts staff moral. 

Work place culture is super negative. Good work/life balance but low wages and not a supportive environment for growth. 7 weeks vacation is nice. Their training isn’t thorough enough and they’re understaffed + high turnover rate. Not worth it 

This place could be wonderful. There are many opportunities to learn, people are nice,  but the turnover is incredible.  It needs a better manager, they don't worry about you, you are totally replaceable. If they train you, they charge you every penny the moment you want to leave.
