The work isn’t so bad. Younger employees are knowledgeable and will help you when asked. Shop management is horrible. Supervisor will harass you on a daily basis. Foreman is somewhat helpful but has a short temper. Manager does nothing for the shop or the employees and is pretty useless when it comes to operating the shop, will harass you about anything. If you aren’t mentally tough than don’t work here, you will be abused verbally. Most days you will have to stay past your scheduled shift to finish services or expect to hear about it the next time you come into the shop. If you don’t have prior experience expect your wage to start at $12 and raise $1 every year. Wage is definitely not worth the work done in the shop each day.

If you just got your class 1 it's a great place to start. Their in class training is good, but could be a little better with on the job training regarding load securement and tarping, but that's also dependant on who is training you. It's all flatbed so be prepared to tarp/untarp loads. Overall though, it's a good place to work. Much better than some others I've worked at. No slip seating. Equipment is well maintained. Decent wages. The one downfall is because of so many new drivers working there the trailer you hook up to may need a little more done as far as load securement or more bungees on the tarps. However, overall, it's a good place to drive for.

The company is reasonable to work for. Unfortunately, management is very very bad and despite HR being very accommodating to employees directly, has done very little to solve the poor management. The pros of working at new hope is that you will, as mentioned earlier, have lots of support from HR and they would sooner help you get better when you are struggling rather than fire you. The workplace environment changes day to day depending on who is supervising the work, but overall you can expect to get along well with your coworkers (and hopefully your superiors).

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great group of people that care about their staff. Willing to train new drivers and train them properly.

No real stress. The team is always willing to help out

Easy going, experienced dispatch. Helpful group of drivers

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
7:30-4:30, work was different everyday. I liked the variety

Experience of long haul trucking cross border driving seeing NAFTA first hand ,winter driving. Pre trip,inter trip,post trip,load security,bills of lading,loading,unloading,customer interaction,paper logs,e-logs,driver reports,communication with dispatch,trip planning,navigation tools,conform to DOT regulations. All things needed to be a successful professional driver

I wouldn't recommend working there unless your gonna be in the office. There's no respect for you otherwise and are treated very poorly with no appreciation for the job you do. Don't expect a raise anytime soon as well. If you need to have time off for an appointment of any kind good luck. There motto all personal things be it doctor or whatever have to be done after work hours. 

Clock in at 8am, turn on the pumps and soaper, then get to work. I learnt some basic management, communication and leadership along with useful car cleaning and janitorial skills. NHT feels like a big family, everyone makes jokes with eachother and pulls eachothers legs in a friendly manner. The job itself is fun, pressure washing is very satisfying.

I would've been alot happier working in the Manitoba yard. The owner in Manitoba is an amazingly friendly guy to talk to. Knows you by name and not a number. Alot friendlier to be working in a nice shop. Mechanics in Manitoba put the driver's first. Night and Day from the Ontario yard.

The owner doesn't in believe in paying his mechanics fairly.  You're expected to do an enormous amount of work while getting paid the bare minimum. Management didn't support the staff. There was one staff member who actually tried to teach you. 

Old school mentality.  No respect. Safety is not their number one priority. Avoid at all costs. Dispatches have never even sat in a truck. Service department is always against drivers. Cheap pay for hard work. There are way better transport deck companies to work for.  You have been warned.
