I’ve had a very disappointing experience here. The clients do not feel like the focus, and instead it often seems that upper management’s priorities lie elsewhere.

Recent changes in leadership have contributed to a noticeable decline across the organization. Clients in crisis are not receiving the attention they need, and the Executive Director is largely absent and disconnected from what is happening within the homes. Meetings lack professionalism and respect, leaving staff discouraged.

The CEO appears infrequently and comes across as out of touch with the realities of the programs. When present, the interactions feel performative rather than supportive or solution-driven. His attitude is unapproachable, and demeaning. He lives out of province, as does our clinical director. Program Managers are rarely available, and when they are, their decision-making feels reactive and uncertain. They don’t appear confident, or entirely sure of their roles. 

This organization once thrived, but the shift in culture and leadership has led to high turnover, neglect of client needs, and houses now under scrutiny because of the state they’ve fallen into. It is heartbreaking to see things deteriorate to this point. 

For anyone who has no choice but to remain employed here, I truly empathize. It’s painful to watch such important work lose its heart.

I LOVE this place! I ltook leave from Newlife in october of 2020 because the program manager was awful. He promised me everything i asked for in my interview. Only a few months down the road to be told "No i didnt" 
It was an extremely disheartening experience. He would call you in for intimidating meetings with multiple witnesses and not let you speak.
I then was promised a raise by the same program manager who later never filed the paper work.

Luckily i reached out to the other members of upper management and the problem was resolved almost immediately. I took a leave to decide if this was the place for me after my experiences with him.

During my leave I saw a job posting for his postition and later learned he wasnt currently there.
I spoke to the director who welcomed me back and informed me of her newest Program Management TEAM! A complete overhaul.

My work place is positive, welcoming and extremely fulfilling and I couldnt imagine Fredericton without NewLife, its exceptional client care, and devotion to their team.

You cannot call in sick to work, unless you have a doctor’s note. They explicitly say that on call is not for calling in, and that you have to cover all your own shifts if you get sick or have a personal emergency, which i'm pretty sure isn't even legal. management (even house managers) don’t care about the staff and treat everyone poorly, unless you’re friends. All the houses are very clique-y and if your house manager doesn’t like you, you’ll know it based on how they treat you and schedule you. theres no communication between houses, and they don’t share staff between houses, making it really difficult to find coverage if needed. they’re severely understaffed. they treat their employees poorly, and then wonder why they’re so understaffed and have such a high turnover rate. there is barely an communication amongst the company, and it’s to the company, staff, and the clients detriment. the money is good, but it’s not worth it unless you don't mind being absolutely miserable. overall, Newlife is not a good company to work for, for a multitude of reasons. 

The management appears to be very overworked and they seem not to have the time to really focus on the clients in their care. It has become clear that peace of mind for management is the first priority. When they get stressed they will do whatever it takes to get back their peace of mind. 
Some of the houses are very toxic to work in and the floor staff are more interested in trying to see other staff get fired or in trouble then caring for residents in their care. Not very positive environment to work in long term due to lack professionalism from co workers. 

The priorities are out of sink at this company and staff should evaluate what is their goal is when working and management to evaluate if they have the right people doing the right jobs as the client care is affected. 

You don't get payed for your actual time worked, you get paied for your SCHEDULED time. Staff leave super early, and if you clock in early you don't get paied for it. There is no communication from the upper management. It seems like their philosophy is hands off. Working singled staffed with violent clients, also working singled staff with the opposite gender, you have zero support, working doubles every other week. No set schedule, your all over the place with times so there is no work life balance, depending on your house manager there could be lots of communication or ZERO communication. Won't answer direct questions about a client (allergies or triggers) before working in the house. No paid sick days, no vac days, no nothing. I felt like I was being worked to the bone for nothing to happen. 

Very fast paced team environment. Management is a lot better since it was changed recently. Recent Managers are performing Orientation and thorough SD check as per requirements. If you are not Mentally and physically capable to work with this type of environment, this job is not for you, as we deal with vulnerable people and high needs. People tend to leave as they think this type of job is easy. Previous Manager did not do anything much and I have not seen them working with clients nor visit them on the floor. Favoritism was  thing with the previous Management, however it stopped immediateIy. Iam very happy with the current Managers and Supervisors as they help each other out. A lot of people get so mad with the Managers but they do tend to stay because of the fair pay.

A typical day as a residential support worker involves providing care and assistance to individuals while maintaining their dignity. I've learned the importance of empathy and adaptability, as each person has unique needs. Effective management is key; supportive leaders inspire teamwork and ensure resources are available. Workplace culture should promote inclusivity and respect, fostering a sense of belonging. The hardest part is navigating challenging behaviors, which can be emotionally taxing. However, the most enjoyable aspect is building meaningful relationships and witnessing positive changes in the lives of those I support.

The work is easy but you don't get time off ever because they are severely under staffed. High turn over. You're also not allowed to call in sick unless you find your own replacement. There is no paid sick time but you're responsible for finding your own replacement?? If not, you are forced to come in. No vacation can be currently taken because everyone is in overtime. No stat days off. At this company, you work 5 days per week every single week. No time off and schedule can change at any time. Management on all levels offer no support to staff. After 1 year there, about 14 months, not 1 sick or vacation day until about a month ago. I was sick and forced to come to work or be put on final warning. Gave my notice to quit yesterday. No one could be bothered to even respond. Although, the work is easy. Lots of free time at work. As long as you don't ever need personal time for yourself. 

Through my years of working at the company, there has been many ups and downs. The company is thriving and changing for the better. My manager has shown me guidance and support. There has recently been a lot of change in management and it has been for the better. Weeding out of the negative people. Since this, the company is supportive, unbiased and respectful to everyone. The new ED is amazing and listens to concern that have been brought forward instead of the last one who would push them to the side for the “office friends” . With this change a Program manager that was seen as toxic and unsupportive has also left. This place will continue to grow more positive and supportive to everyone and you can already feel the shift in energy to positive. I have never been more proud to call Newlife options my home than I am today!

a typical day at work is like walking in the dark. the clients are wonderful but the management is horrible. you are just a worker to them, the micro managing is very intense, if one little thing is not exactly how upper management says.. good luck. 
you cannot call in sick, even with a doctors note it’s hard to get the time off. the management is petty and controlling and it ends up making life harder for the clients as their staff aren’t appreciated and competent. there is no interview process anybody can get a job. 
the staff are clicky and mean, if there is an issue you will hear about it through everybody else.
