What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It functions in a regulated environment which can be restricting and frustrating at times.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Awesome when I was there.  I have many life friends from NP.  They support you when life is not treating you so well and they strive to be an equal opportunity employer for all people.  Many employee focused programs.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It’s a busy place.  I like that.  I worked in HR so it’s always busy and driven by employee needs and programming support.  I did have time for proper development of my training.  I didn’t have to work a lot of extra hours but on occasion would.  

It was a consultative environment where we bounced ideas off each other.  You were free to express ideas.  

Respectful environment where people’s privacy was of major importance.  Confidentiality was crucial in the work I did.

I spent 34 years of my life there.  For the most part I enjoyed them all.

TYPICAL DAY INCLUDED JOB SAFETY  TAILBOARD MEETING, SAFETY PRIORTY UPPERMOST, DUTIES PERFORMED TO HIGHEST STANDARDS, EFFICENT AND TIMELY. WORKING WELL WITH MANAGEMENT TO ENSURE PROPER PROCEDURE AND REGULATIONS ADHERED TO . GOOD REPOUR WITH FELLOW WORKERS RESPECTING EACH OTHERS QUALITIES AND OPONIONS. MOST DIFFICULT PART OF JOB IS ENSURING ALL SCHEDULES ARE ADHERED TO AND ENSURING ALL MATERIAL ARE AVAILABLE FOR EXECUTION OF DUTIES. MOST ENJOYABLE TIMES ARE WHEN USING ALL WORKERS EXPERIENCE TO SOLVE UPCOMING ISSUES AND METHODS OF COMPLETING TASKS.

Honestly my favorite job I've had. Working in the main offices you're around such a great group of people who make you feel welcome. I learned so much in my time there, and my supervisor/management team were amazing in helping me grow my skills. They would give me knew challenges, and actually provide advice along the way. 

You get to feel a real sense of work-life balance here, which you don't often find in other jobs. I'm also super thankful to the amazing EAP they offer, as it was able to help me get back on my feet during the worst moments of my life. 

I enjoy helping customers with their simple and complex issues. The systems that NL Power uses were a foreign ground for me, however it has made the job interesting, constantly learning new things. My fellow coworkers have been a pleasure since day one, they are there to assist you when you need it. They are a wealth of information and are open to sharing it.

Overall working at Newfoundland Power was a joy. There was a vast amount of material to cover, but the training was in-depth and there was always resources available to you. Expectations were clear and reviews were frequent. The management was open and friendly.

Most staff have been there 20 years plus and make it difficult for new staff to establish themselves.

Career progression will be very difficult as old school mentality dominates at management level. 

Not all departments like this but a few. 

HR are there to protect the company and not the employees unless your one of the old school management folks.

I worked with Newfoundland Power as a senior work term student. I can say that the work environment and the type of work that I was involved in were fantastic. Opportunities such as attending site visits, partaking in safety meetings, and collaborating with other employees helped make my work term experience so rich.

Company has great salaries. Not the most progressive company but the culture is decent. RRSP matching and benefits. Tuition reimbursement for long term employees who want to further education. Always new opportunities. Management/executives are a bit disconnected. 

Learned alot about high voltage, cable repair substation switching and grounding and maintenance of transformers.  Management were very helpful.  Staff went above and beyond to make sure I understood what I was doing.

I enjoyed my work with NL Power, I have met great people who work there. They made me feel welcome each and every day that I worked. The experience was amazing, I would love to stay in Human Resources near my home. I would recommend anyone to work with NL Power.
