Niagara Casinos

Niagara Casino's is a great place to work at.  They have good management and my direct manager was great to work with.  The only problem I had was the lack of salary as we were very far apart from the beginning.  I didn't spend much time at Niagara Casino's because I was constantly looking for work outside of it.   This was directly related to the salary.

The management style was very dated.   I could have done so much more in terms of consulting for them and better process optimization however management was always pushing back.  My direct manager again was willing to move forward but had to face a lot of hurdles.   I learned a lot from him and I think it worked both ways.  

The casino has some great people.  The cafeteria is a big bonus and cost effective.  Buying lunch is pretty great there.   They have a dated I.T department.  Most don't even have laptops and wireless internet with Network access is not available.  Working from home was frowned upon. 

I would go back if a few things were going to change.

I like working in Niagara Casino. Relatively secured job. The division of labour is clear-cut, each one being charged with specific responsibilities. I do not need to worry about if someone will exploit my time, energy and money. I can always find specific associate who can solve my problem or hear my voice. 

Good benefit for myself and family members. 

Shifts are flexible if you are not a full-timer. It will take time to get full-time from contract or part-time. All depends on your seniority or business needs. As a part-timer for now, the variable shifts is a big challenge for me to balance my work and personal life.  Good time management skill is very necessary. 

As a multi-culture and 24 hrs running working environment. It's really important to have positive attitude and good communication skills, there's a lot to deal with customers and associates.

The pros about this company are plentiful! Here are a few examples:
-The people you work with are mostly very friendly and happy to be there. 
-The work you do doesn't easily stress you out, and you always have management or security to call if anything goes awry.  
-The benefits for full-time and part-time workers are great.
-Always dealing with different patrons changes your day-to-day surrounding.
-They offer free parking on-site during the week, a fitness centre, discounted meals, and a variety of discounts at lots of companies for just being an associate.


The only cons that I truly have are:
-Fluctuating hours.  Going from grave shift to swing shift a lot is hard on your body.
-When you are hired as contract, it is very hard to get part-time employment.  Not good for job security.

So, I got to work, we start pre-shift we get stationed. We worked 2 hours before we get a break 3 breaks in an 8 and half hour shift. Not to bad right? Well, that's pretty much where it ends. I worked in a kitchen, 'nuff said. Hot, and sweaty and gross, getting no respect from anyone and no one cared. 
My co-workers were great, except for most of my supervisors that is. Never helped, never taught the proper way to clean on mid-nights, and you always got in trouble for it! How fair is that?! 
The hardest thing most of all, was the lack of empathy for you, if you were dealing with buckets and no one would help you, even if you asked, you just got in trouble for being to slow. Like, I'm a hard worker, I wish I was Superman, but I wasn't, so I just got in trouble all the time.

Best spot to work for people who are content with staying in one company for the rest of their life and working for the man! Also, not bad what so ever salary or benefits wise. They do a very fair job to make sure all employees have a better than average salary and even their part time associate qualify for very good benefits! The overall most disappointing thing would be the management and the overall dynamic/chemistry between the associates, its very upsetting when a lot of people clash which makes it a lot harder to work as one team!

Co workers were great, always willing to help out and make sure I didnt get lost. The main Engineering manager was great, he had been in the trade for many years. There were two managers lower than the main Engineering manager, when I was hired one manager held an Electrical License and the other had no trade license and not much experience in any trade. Later the Engineering manager from Casino Niagara came to Fallsview and the one from Fallsview went to Casino Niagara. The manager that came from Niagara was never in a trade and had zero experience in any trade. I believe that if you are a manager of a bunch of trades people I think you should be in some kind of trade. .

Fast pace environment, prioritize projects, interview vendors, learn about new innovative products and services that can optimize year end results for the company.  Issue purchase orders, RFPs, RFIs, RFQs on a daily basis.  Execute contracts. Build & keep a good relationship with outside customers as well as internal customers.  Being busy, the interaction with vendors & departments and the end result that I achieved gives me a great joy to know what I have successfully done my job.

Management is awful and alot of the staff is very bitter and not very hopsitable. Money was good depending where you worked but half of the bars are not worth working. Unfortunately that is where new staff ends up as they only cater to the full time employees that have been there the longest. Most guests are only there to gamble making it hard to interact and engage guests. If your used to working in bars and restaraunts this job seems like more of a factory in the sense that its very repetative, boring and set shifts.

Go in to work and go to preshift. Go get my caddie and go up to my flor and start my rooms. if I cant get in I go help another girl.

I don't particularly think I have learned really anything only because I have done housekeeping before. 

Most management in my department is good, but there are things I don't agree with (as anyone would at any job).

The hardest part of my job would be finishing my rooms if I got a very late start (normally sundays)

The most enjoyable part of my job would definitely be the people I work with. I have made many friendships that are amazing.

You can have a very rewarding career at Niagara casinos. Decent shifts are hard to come by, however, time put in and networking among supervisors, management and coworkers can provide a rewarding career path. If you start in an entry level floor role, expect to work nights, evenings, weekends and holidays. If you do, you will make a lot of really good friends, however, you will trade off your current lifestyle to do so (unless you currently work in a role with similar hours).
