I applied for a "Manager in Training" position in which I had an interview and got the job.  The girls, who currently manage the store, gave me very little training and very little communication.  I don't believe that they wanted me there at all.  They even would go into the winery and close the door and work together on little projects and totally excluded me.  I would build a display or organize shelves and they would go behind me and redo them...no explanation why.... no corrective criticism or that their way was the company way...nothing.  I was also told by the district manager the schedule would be a certain way....it was not.  I was lucky if the girls would say "hello" or "good morning" when they would open the door for me in the morning.  It was clear to me that I was not welcomed.

The lack of communication and disrespect backfired on them.  In fact, it cost the company a lot of money and left me absolutely devastated that this certain procedure was not in any of my employee handouts, memos posted in staff areas or even told to me verbally.  It was humiliating.

The one thing I will add that was in my "employee handout" was this:
There will be a 3 month probation period where both the employer and employee could terminate the position without any notice.....I took that road.

It's just too bad because I have a lot of experience selling wine and even completed many certificates in wine as well as an education in business.

I will end on a positive note.  The business itself is fabulous...wish I came up with that idea.  The customers were a pleasure to serve... everyone was very happy and kind.  The other members of the team there were also very kind and knowledgeable.  I enjoyed getting to know them.

I worked on a casual basis there for about 12 years, and saw the company grow from 2 family hobby shops to one of the dominant wholesale and retail wine and beer supply companies in the country. I learned a lot about the home brew hobby in the early days, which was my main reason for seeking employment, and enjoyed the comradery of my fellow enthusiasts (customers and employees alike). 

Taught me retail skills, of which I had none going in, and appreciated the patience of those who helped me along the way. Made some great friendships and memories that will likely last a lifetime.

The growth of the industry in general has been impressive, but it seemed this company grew at a rate that even surpassed that. Tough to get everything right when adapting to meet that demand, but the fact that they are still a family owned company with a lot of good people and a lot of heart says something. Tons of satisfied and returning customers prove it.

I started working here as a part timer. My manager was very flexible with my school schedule. When I needed time off for school I never felt like I was inconveniencing anyone. When school was over and I needed more hours they were very accommodating. 

You need to be interested in brewing and wine making which is easy considering all staff are avid brewers.  There’s a lot to learn but it’s fun. 

Customers are fantastic too!

A physically demanding job but I just looked at us as being paid to go to the gym. 

Left only because university is finished and am starting my new career. 
I did offer to help out when needed. Great discount and great friends.

From day 1 you are made to feel like part of a family. They take the time to teach you anything you want to know or learn. They support you as needed. It can he physically demanding but I look at it as a free gym membership only you get to get paid to do it. They keep small knit groups for staffing which allows them to pay a bit more then most. There is always room for growth with tons of opportunities to move up in the company or even just get to try new things. Great discounts available, medical dental and investments after a period of time. Out of all of the jobs I have worked in my life no one made me feel so proud to be part of like Noble Grape has.

This is a very supportive company. Tons of new learning oppertunity wether it be winery work, product knowledge or inventory control. As a newer employee I quickly learned a lot to do with our products, trouble shooting, and customer relations. I see potential to move up in position quickly and expect to be with this fast growing company for a long time. Management has been incredible. Very helpful with any concerns I may have and always happy to listen to suggestions. 

It's like an entirely different company than a few years ago because a number of people have left and others have been moved around and promoted, resulting in a better organizational structure and better culture. I always enjoyed the job I did, but not all the people and now my only complaint is that the warehouse is struggling to keep up with growth. Good compensation, work life balance, growth opportunities and I feel like my ideas and opinions are valued and considered. 

management will close stores at the drop of a hat, ie when it snows or rains, and not pay staff for lost hours throughout the most recent winter i worked here i lost income on every single paycheque between november and february. when i asked for support via compensation for lost hours my manager ignored me.

if you work hourly and rely on those hours to pay your bills, you shouldn't work here.

If you like to work just enough not to get fired this is the place for you. You can ignore customers because you're too busy playing on your phone, bring personal problems to work. You don't have to work hard to be a manager as you'll just fall into the role as you're simply the next one in line. You can lie and intimidate your staff  without consequences. 


Noble Grape is a fast growing business. It's fast paced with a large focus on customer service. There's opportunities to grow and advance through the company.  I've never worked for such a friendly group of people. 
I've found a career in a company rather than just a job.
