Nokia, former Alcatel-Lucent, in Ottawa Canada is a typical foreign hitech company in Canada. The salaries are average for the Ottawa hitech market. The salaries have not been raised substantially in the past decade. There is no career path to management since the management is not in Canada. There is no training or career growth. It is run by a small number of local middle directors who are too old to go anywhere else so they blindly obey the corporate orders and put pressure on employees to deliver. There is a opaque non-transparent culture where the management never explains their decisions on salary ranges or employee hiring or firing. They keep bringing foreign workers on work visas from India and China instead of hiring Canadians and keep getting R&D tax credits from Canadian government. For the corporate executives sitting in foreign capitals it is all about Canadian R&D tax credits, cheap Canadian dollar, Canadian healthcare and a passive Canadian culture that keeps producing and does not complain.

I am passionate about working at Nokia because it offers an exciting and dynamic environment that aligns perfectly with my career aspirations and values. A typical day at work would consist of get sales orders from the management team to process into a system called SAP. However the sales orders are the same type of orders because our account is Sprint (telecommunications company) and they want a lot of the same work done in several areas in the United States. So because of that our work is very repetitive. I've learned how to use SAP and how to work in the corporate culture. My co-workers are awesome, we get along very well and I would say the most enjoyable part of the job is when our lunch comes, because the co-workers and myself get to laugh and talk about things not related to work. There isn't a lot of movement within this department, therefore it's a very entry level kind of job.

As a hardware engineering COOP I got to work with the latest technologies and got to gain valuable lab experience/skills that would help me get my new job.

Very little bureaucracy, mentor would tell me there are not many levels of management.

COOP work depends on which team/supervisor you get placed with. Sometimes I had slow days when my other coworkers would be really busy.

Before COVID they had TGIF fridays where on every last friday of the month everyone would just gather in the main lobby to socialize and have free food/drinks.

They even gave us a free catered lunch one day because we would always be coming in to work.

My typical day at work was to review stats, to ensure that we would meet our one time deliveries.  Help team members with the portfolio's and projects that the were working on to ensure that the customer would receive their material on time.  Assist with high profile conference calls to help set up projects and resolve any issues that we might have.  Example shortages, equipment failure etc.  The hardest part of the job is for me was putting the job down and going home, especially if we had issues with a project.  The most enjoyable part of the job was working with all the people at Alcatel and help accomplishing the task at hand.

Overall I enjoyed Nokia.  I was fortunate to work on a very difficult customer group which included many different US counties, townships, cities, small businesses, etc.  I love being able find solutions to problems, and with this type of customer group there were a great many challenges like this. In my position as team lead (A4) I was responsible for determining the best way to enter customer orders into our system so the customer could receive their products and services as they wanted it, but also so we could order and invoice within system limitations, US tax laws and US SOX laws as well.  This was a constant challenge and it always felt very rewarding to find the solution.

A typical day at work is liasing with the sales executives,and logistics teams ensuring all purchase orders received met the contractual obligations between the company and the customer.
The most enjoyable part of the job was customer satisfaction and recongition of a job well done.
I learned that my extensive background in Sales Administration helped the company improve and benefit from my input on how to improve in the automation of processes for a faster turn around time in sales orders from the time the PO was received to the customer receiving product.

Working in alcatel lucent for 9 years gave me dedication to job market in telecomunication industry. Alcatel gave me a great experience with multicultural customer in the globe. as a daily work with Alcatel provided great deal of experience in dedication and high deal of performance and integration management. I learned to be a proffessional in OSS integtration, system and network administration, training big amount of resources, and customer experience. Co-workers has a sense of great deal of communication, and cooperation. The enjoyable thing about my work in alcatel is the high performance and motivation.

Great product ideas and design.

Good people, collaborative work environment.  Training ad-hoc, but good efforts by department and experienced employees.

The tools were not always the best such as the in house "easy test" which was garbage.

Priorities were constantly in flux and a lot of time was wasted switching back and forth between them.

Agile team trust violated by one team member which was not addressed.

High turnover, due to financial issues of company.

Good commitment of employees to the company but not reciprocal.

- Running larger complex project interacting with customer leads, project sponsor, different internal business units, and senior management.
- Project delivery sucess requires dedication, focus, team collaboration and leadership support.
- The work environment was extremely fast with many hurdles and challenges to solve.
- Complete team effort support throughout the various business units. 
- Major challenge maintaining resources to meet customer engagements and delivery schedules.
