Northbridge has a great vision and and strives towards that vision. The work is interesting and robust. I was exposed to many faucets of the business and learned a great deal along the way. The Executive team seems honest and they communicate well. One is skeptical if the concerns of the employees make their way to the Executive team. Great work life balance and most departments provide flexible hours or participate in work form home initiatives. The hardest part of the job is the inconsistency in the company values, as employees feel there is an in-congruence between what is said and what is done. When Northbridge is willing to have open, honest dialogue with its employees within all departments about their challenges (as not all departments have this challenge), Northbridge will reach its full potential when their employees feel they are being heard. Many employees feel powerless and they are not afforded open dialogues with their supervisors to address these issues. Many seem to operate in a "Survival mode". The most enjoyable part of the job are your colleagues, they will become some of your closest friends.

Organization has gone through huge change in past 5 years but this is a very sluggish company it seems to take forever to implement change and change management discipline is really lacking.  There are certain leaders that are ruining the culture and these leaders are being rewarded for bad behaviour by progressively being promoted - hopefully the senior executive team realizes the impact of their promotion decisions?  These leaders are only focused on self promotion and are terrible people leaders.  They spend too much time managing up rather than mentoring and coaching team.  They create an environment of fear and the turnover is a sign of bad leadership. There are a number of promotions that have taken place over the past 2 - 3 that everyone just scratches their heads and wonders why these people are getting promoted because they definitely do not exhibit the corporate core values.

This could be a great place to work at but the bad apples are creating a terrible culture and not a pleasant place to work at.

I absolutely loved working at this company! The environment was supportive, and the team was incredibly collaborative, making every project feel like a shared success. Workplace does not train employees at all. What they call training is a few short videos.
Coworkers gossip like the plague. 
Management does not care one bit about development. They will make you stay in the role while dangling any potential advancement in front of you like a carrot on a stick. 
Systems are antiquated and not in line with industry. 
No overtime provided at all. They expect you to complete work whatever the cost. 
Any incidents regarding escalations are not treated as a learning experience rather, is used to criticise the employee. 
Zero flexibility for work from home. In office two/three days a week is mandatory. Any deviation will result in a letter from HR warning termination. They will not consider illness or extenuating circumstances. 
I am frankly shocked at the positive score on here as it in no way reflects the reality of working there. 

As an Executive Assistant to senior level management in corporate underwriting and later moving on to assist my manager in setting up the customer excellence department, provided me an excellent platform of opportunities to showcase my strengths, work capabilities and professionalism in a different dimension working in a customer-centric environment.

One of the best places to learn the insurance business.  Terrific training. You learn alot about the way coverage works and how to sell. The downside is that you compete against brokers who represent dozens of other companies. Federated is a very small and increasingly less relevant player in the industry. Many others insurers now happily write what had been served largely by federated for decades.  Strict underwriting inhibits sales. Underwriters often work against rather than with the agent.  Great place to learn... Gets a bit stagnant after awhile after oppty's dwindle and underwriters kill the fun.

Responsible for Initiating, and managing, the development of the CEO’s calendar, by prioritizing and organizing internal and external stakeholders meetings, and resolve all conflicting requests.
Responsible for the preparation and coordination of presentation materials, including board and related committee meeting materials.
Able to compile, and complete, monthly corporate expenses, including cash expenses, and coding invoices as received from external suppliers.

I started at Northbridge when it was called Markel.  I knew nothing about tractors/ trailers or cargo.  There was a lot to learn about the transportation companies Markel dealt with and it was extremely interesting and fun to learn.  

dealing with the transportation industry everything involved with a claim needed to be dealt with quickly & effectively to keep the costs to the insured and insurer at a minimum.

I was placed in one department during the month assisting the insurance adjusters by pulling files, "building" property evaluations by transfering information from the prior year to a new form,and calculating the rate worksheets for policy renewals using a binder or information regarding the property location, size, availablity of fire hydrants and fire stations.

I worked there for a few months and overall had a good time! Learned lots about myself and if you are very detail orientated this is the job for you! Very fun co-workers and kind management. The days can be a bit stressful if your new to insurance, but once you get the hang of it Northbridge is a great place to work at.
