What is the best part of working at the company?
You are your own boss. You work on your own at your own pace.  Lots of travel. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not enough sleep.  You work according to the crew schedule at any time of the. day or night 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Youre on your own in the work environment, usually on a train in the middle of nowhere in the wilderness. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cooking, baking, cleaning, take a break for 1/2 hr then  go back at it. Days can be 12-16-20 hrs long. Guaranteed 4 hrs OT nearly every day. 
Dealing with special diets, vegans, religious food restrictions. Need to he self sufficient, deal with problems of every nature.

This was a unique job, A regular job shift would be taking the train to an icolated location, setting up the rail carts and generators to get power going, ensuring everything was in optimal running and living condition for the CN employee's, after one week of preparing then the CN employees would come on board for one more week, my job duties would be fixing any problems with lights, heat, satellite tv, toilet and toilet systems keeping generators running and then after a 2 week period would return home for 6 days off, This was a great job, I got layed off and due to management problems and people leaving the company I did not get called back.

The workplace is constantly changing locations so work is 100% on the road. Time off appears scheduled yet the company is usually at the point of being understaffed so time off does become unpredictable. Wages are fair. Job security is low, a layoff may come totally unexpected.  Management seems supportive yet has little to no presence in the field so you will be figuring operations out for yourself in very serious situations. A great place to work if you enjoy planning and having freedom to manage your time and deadlines.


Job ads say railroad, mining and construction contracts.They have one client.Thats it. Stick us in the bush with no contact for days or weeks at a time.Only feedback is negative. Better work hard when they need you Sometimes work more than 20 hours in a day and have to drive hours with no sleep in the bush to move to new location. Get there to set up and no sleep, can be up for 30 hours. Then have to argue for overtime. 


I really wouldn't have minded it so much, if someone there actually trained me. I was put in the back without no clue whatsoever, what to do during slow periods. Lead hand was afraid to make deliveries to office staff. My supervisor did nothing all day long. Very difficult to look busy and stay by receiving all day long. I could only clean and tidy so much after that nothing to do.

Great place to work if you are looking for poor management, no support, complete lack of professionalism, toxic work environment, and terrible benefits. I stayed around for years because I had respect for one person at the main office. They forced her out with their games so I will be looking for a new beginning with a company that values their workers. Don't settle for this one. 


Nothing good to say about this place.  The ones that say anything good are in the pocket of the big boss.  lots of promises when you start, good luck getting time off.

What a fantastic company to work for. Competitive pay, friendly staff and management. They really do care about their employees and it shows. They offer a rare but critical service to the railroads and they do it with pride.

Worked for 2 seasons camp cook loved it great experience and excellent support team in Sudbury  long hours but fun and  challenging environment not for the faint of hart

Management does not care about your well being whatsoever ever. Overworked for the hourly pay giving. Overtime is good then when applicable. Depends on the gang and what their hours are.
