Novas Ark

This is an amazing place for kids off all needs and had the privilege of doing my Consolidation here. This is a day camp that is entirely outside and wheel chair accessible and is for children while developmental needs.  They work using animal therapy eg) camels or monkeys, music, sensory and educational tools to reach learning and social outcomes that families have requested during the application process. As well as other daily activities that are all set around the farm. I had had a group of children or worked one on one with individuals. I was a PSW on site that did feedings, changes and personal care.The staff have the hugest hearts and is a great place to understand how having time and patience can lead to amazing things. We strive to ensure every child is reaching a goal while promoting dignity and preference while they get there. It welcomes everyone and allows them to strive.

Skills that I learned were time management, organization, planning, and customer service. Exceptional coworkers and a very friendly environment as well as excellent relations between customers and staff. Hardest part of the job was organizing staff/volunteers in the morning before summer camp guests arrived. Most enjoyable part of the job was working one-on-one with the special needs guests.

I started volunteering at Nova's Ark because i needed my community service hours for school. After the first few weeks of being there it made me realize that this place means so much more to me than hours. It became a place where everyone of all sorts is welcome. I got animal experience as well as one on one experience with children with disabilities and special needs. It was a wonderful time spent there and i totally recommend for students to volunteer here.

Cleaning, feeding, grooming, walking, interacting/playing with the animals. Watching after the children, getting them used to the animals around them. Making sure they were well cared for. Co-workers were fantastic, easy to talk to and go to for help. I've learned all sorts of things, such as how to properly take care of animals. What they eat, how you groom and clean them etc. Also learned how to properly look after a child.

Over the two months that i was attending Novas Ark, I had realized that it really isnt a therapeutic place to be in. I found myself coming home with more bruises from the special individuals that attended this place oppose to my previous locations. I wish they put more effort into the individuals that attended it then the animals and other grounds they have

a typical day is feeding barn animals and taking care of disabled kids.

  I have learned how to nurture animals and how to take care of disabled children.
 
  my co-workers were really snobby and only talked to the people they already knew.

  the hardest part of the job was trying to get through the mud to feed the animals.

   the enjoyable part was meeting the new volunteers.

Resource team and support staff will talk down to the mentors and will not even acknowledge your presence. Honestly just an over all hostile environment when the owner preachs inclusiveness and acceptance. The owner and all the upper staff doesn't care about the mentors welfare. Honestly one of the worst places ive ever worked. 

Volunteering here is extremely rewarding. Working with the animals and people is enjoyable and the friendly atmosphere makes it a very comfortable place to do volunteer work

Outdoor work it was good if the weather was not rainy. Lots of children to support and lots of animals to feed and to clean up after them. The people I worked with were nice and very helpful.

This company was an amazing place to start my career, I would've loved to stay however there was a lack of growth opportunities for staff that showed loyalty and were there for awhile. The clients are easily the best part of the job.
