One Plant

I no longer work for One Plant, and it has been the best decision I think I've ever made. It was a mess from the moment I started working there. 

They changed the register to their version to save money, I guess? but the cash register was the worst. It never worked properly, you couldn't even search for products on there, and it would just randomly crash and stop working.  Customers would get mad at us and storm out because of this. The best was when they were doing construction in our store and still made us work despite it being a whole safety hazard but of course, they didn't care :) Upper management doesn't care about anyone but themselves. The staff I worked with was great, though some were a little stuck up and a bit of a superiority complex and some of the management had no respect for our time outside of work and working hours. I would get messages constantly from management and If I did not respond for even something so stupid and small, it would "affect my work performance"  One time my former manager messaged me while I was on my break asking where I was while I was still punched out for break and I was just sitting in my car.  Another time they interrupted my break to talk to me about work issues that honestly were not THAT important to interrupt my break for and could easily talk to me about it after. Not to mention a time when I was in the bathroom and my manager was trying to talk to me about a new memo from head office while I was IN THE BATHROOM. They made the job stressful for no reason and I found it hard to separate my work life from my actual life outside of work.  At the end of the day,  I've never seen a place so stuck up and uptight like One Plant

You do get free samples to try out, and cool merch from time to time but at the end of the day, it is not worth it for your sanity and mental health. Don't work there. 



Typical day/night:
Shifts are usually:
Day: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Mid: 12:00/1:00 PM – 6:00/7:00 PM
Night: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Opening duties include access control, counting tills, checking systems, turning on menus, and preparing the vault before opening at 9:00 AM.

Client flow varies by season. The off-season is mostly regular customers with quick transactions, while summer brings a noticeable increase in traffic due to tourism. Business is usually steady until early afternoon.

Daily responsibilities include restocking products, organizing and labeling the vault, breaking down boxes, and light cleaning during slower periods.

Night shift / Closing:

Evening shifts involve assisting customers, organizing the vault, cleaning, preparing garbage and recycling, counting tills, completing the safe drop, and handling full lockup procedures before closing at 10:45 PM and clocking out around 11:00 PM.

Hardest part of the job:

The main challenge currently is the WAIO point-of-sale system, which is undergoing a major update.

Management / Workplace culture:

Management and staff at the Wasaga Beach location are supportive, understanding, knowledgeable, and always willing to help.


The day-to-day operations of One Plant are very easygoing: The location is fairly slow, and selling and pitching products to customers comes naturally to employees with interest and expertise in the field.
Unfortunately, the higher-up management team appear out of touch to the practicality of their newly implemented policy, which makes the jobs of every employee below them more convoluted and difficult for little to no benefit. For example, newly changed price matching policy has increased transaction time by 5 additional minutes or more due to the proper procedure now taking 10+ steps, some of which contradict each other. Customers are also urged to just travel to where they would like to price match from instead as a result of this.
Management also often fudges inventory numbers in order to not be flagged by ontario cannabis regulations, which is definitely legally grey at the least.

Working at Oneplant was a deeply disappointing experience. From the start, there was a glaring lack of guidance and training. New hires were expected to hit the ground running without any proper instruction, leaving many of us feeling set up to fail. The management's approach seemed disorganized and indifferent to employee development, making it incredibly challenging to succeed.

Additionally, some of the policies in place bordered on being illegal. There was a noticeable disregard for proper labor practices and employee rights, creating an environment of uncertainty and frustration. The lack of support and clarity from management only exacerbated the situation, making it difficult to feel secure or valued in the workplace.

Overall, my time at Oneplant was marked by dissatisfaction and a sense of being undervalued. It's clear that significant changes are needed to improve the working conditions and support for employees

Business is ran by a mid twenties gent who doesn't even have any education behind him, not even a GED. If you're down for the highschool mentality style this is the place for you! Great place to be if you dont care about progressing in the business force. The more skills and knowledge you have as an employee the more you'll be placed in the line of fire. If you smoke you get 5-10 minutes each hour to get your fix. Amokers don't clock out, but if you're not a smoker and need a little break you have to clock out. Discount is 15% barely covers taxes. Products dried out and customers are either uneducated or overwhelming with what they know. 

I like working at One Plant, and I've learned a lot about the industry since I started here. The customers are mostly friendly, OP stocks tons of products making it easier to increase KPI's and the pay is pretty solid for a retail job.  My co-workers are great too, but that's largely because of the efforts of the store manager.

The company has expanded so much over the last year, that I feel the corporate team is mostly inaccessible to anyone below the store manager level. They also have made some significant false promises,  leading to employees being paid less than they anticipated and providing a new point of sale system that didn't really work for almost a month. 

In an industry that has only just begun understand that things are going to change and you’re going to have to adjust to a lot. If you’re looking for a part time job where you can learn new things constantly this job may be perfect for you 
However there are no health benefits offered to anybody below management, favouritism is definitely a huge part of this location. You basically have to be the store managers best friend to get any respect. 
Also be prepared to be fired for no reason, not me but while I was employed there so many people were fired for some of the most ridiculous things. 

The company itself was really cool since they do a lot of collaborations with LPs and you get a lot of testers and samples. They carry a lot more product compared to some other dispensaries. Being on cash as a budtender was cool but more of the back-end stuff was the issue, like management was really disorganized when it came to scheduling. My on-boarding process and training was disorganized too since it took weeks to get my uniform, I kept getting scheduled on days outside of my availability and couldn’t even clock in so I left eventually. 

2 year employee.  Exploited knowledge, work ethic and uplifting demeanor.  Preferential treatment is a usual occurrence , and promoted.  Would never tell anyone to work for a comoany that regards its employees the way I was treated.  Left me a jaded individual, and pushed me away from the cannabis business entirely. 0/10 overall 

- Managers expected to soak up Holiday hours by working at least one shift of each one.
-Condescending Regional managers (one specifically) comes through whether speaking or in text. This also makes it so managers don't want to bother asking questions in chats or in meetings.
-Terrible work life balance.
-Management wages are an insult to the field. Always divide your salary by 2080 (the amount of hours worked in 52 weeks based on 40 hours per week). This will give you your actual hourly rate.
