Oviinbyrd Golf Club

Oviinbyrd is the most exemplary hospitality workplace I have worked in. I was lucky to join them as a newcomer to Canada for the 2023 season. The management team, chef, general manager and the food and beverage director work as a cohesive team like no other. They are highly supportive of their staff and will leave no stone unturned to make sure they have to right skill and right tools to achieve the best results. While the hours seem long there is a lot of knowledge to be squeezed out. Some of the most exciting parts of my experience included, handling hyper-seasonal products, a menu that changed every five weeks which kept us on our toes, the freedom to give inputs and really hone your skills when it came to plating and organisation. You will be challenged and asked to push yourself. Chef wants to see you succeed and grow, its up to you if you are up for the challenge.

My days would start by inspection of the work done by my department before the members arrived each morning during golf season. I learned that my manager had great faith in my abilities and that made me confident in my day to day operation of the two departments I managed. The co workers did change from season to season being that it was a golf club but there was a year round "family" and we all worked well together. There are always hard parts to every job and this job had its fare share. Mine seemed to be finding staff that would work for the entire summer. One of the most enjoyable parts was the bonus at the end of the hard and busy season but I enjoyed seeing the club house in winter when it was all quite and no golfers.

I have had the pleasure of working at Öviinbyrd for 3 summers as both a server and halfway house attendant. I keep coming back for the exceptional work environment created by the management team, fellow staff, and members. The management team is invested in all servers professional growth as well as development of transferable skills that will carry with you into future jobs. There are lots of opportunities to learn about food, wine, and etiquette, and the management team always matches server's interest and investment in the program with opportunities and rewards. Serving at Öviinbyrd is a fast paced, challenging, educational, and rewarding experience that I look forward to continue to be apart of!

I worked at this incredible place for five seasons, and every single one was an amazing journey. The chef I worked under is truly exceptional full of knowledge, passion, and creativity that inspired everyone around them. The atmosphere in the kitchen and the entire workplace was fantastic. It was a place that fostered both creativity and teamwork, and that made all the difference.

Every season brought something new. There was always something fresh to learn, whether it was a new technique, dish, or approach to cooking. I came back every year because I knew I’d grow both professionally and personally. 

If you're looking for a place to learn, grow, and be part of an amazing team, this is definitely the spot.

I have worked for Oviinbyrd for three summers and cannot say enough good about the culture of the club which has been fostered by exceptional management. This job challenged me mentally and physically and has been one of the most rewarding experiences. The emphasis placed on staff education and knowledge is unlike anything I have every experienced.  The care and consideration put in to every imaginable detail at Oviinbyrd allows you to feel prideful about the work you do and your role. Oviinbyrd is a phenomenal place to work if you are looking to learn about food and wine and challenge yourself. 

The chef is passionate, present in the kitchen and likes to share his experience which has accumulated over 30 years in europe, with 3 star michelin restaurants, and in canada.
The restaurant also offers an opportunity to see something else and to work in a wonderful and respectful environment.
I like working in this restaurant, to get away from big city life and to be able to breathe and enjoy the great Canadian space, and also to improve my culinary knowledge thanks to the chef!

I only have positive things to say about my experience at Öviinbyrd. Management is always there to ensure the team has the proper tools and training to meet the standards expected. 
The leadership team is always willing to put time and energy into honing our personal skills if we have the initiative to support it. 
The skills and attention to detail I’ve learned this past year is second to none, and I can’t wait to continue learning in years to come. 


Chef is always in the kitchen and ready to teach. He has a hands on approach and will help his team grow and expand their culinary knowledge. It was an incredible opportunity to work side by side with a culinary Master. Chef believes in his team and works with each member. This has been hands down the best kitchen I have ever worked in.

This job was extremely unique. The members are extremely nice and the workplace culture is mostly positive. The relationship between FOH and BOH is the most healthy/beneficial relationship I have ever seen within the industry. The standards here are high and if you’re up to the challenge, you can learn a lot…but the hours can be very long (12+) and therefore it can be tiring to stay so “locked in” with said set hours. 

Having done my first season at oviinbyrd I have definitely experienced a great place to work. Having alot of golf club experience this club tops it all. Very exclusive and high end. Amazing chef to work with. Alot of great benefits as well as getting to enjoy working with an amazing team. Looking forward to upcoming season.
