PARKVIEW NURSING CENTRE

Stressful, toxic environment. The staff were awful towards each other, and some of them treated the residents as less than human. The PSWs are rude and very few truly care for the residents. I had to leave because it was so heartbreaking. I would come on for my shift and the residents were alone, starved for attention and left soiled. Call bells rang constantly because the PSWs deemed answering them unnecessary. Some PSWs and nurses made it bearable. The schedule was terrible, I was booked sporadically. We were often understaffed so the work was hard. The staffing ratios were absolutely horrendous, 9 residents per PSW (but most required 2 people to care so you ended up working with your partner and rushed). They would rush through their tasks to have free time. You could never have a full break, and sometimes you'd only have 10 minutes (and you still wouldn't get full 8 hours pay).
The PSWs hated each other and their attitude reflected on their ability. They would not help the new staff get used to the routine and residents and were solely focused on their own residents. The PSW would speak about personal matters to each other while helping residents, completely ignoring them. They spend their free time gossiping and on their phones rather than spend it with the residents. Often, they would speak on the phone at the patient’s bedside on speaker while completing tasks.
The facility itself is an absolute disaster. My interview was only in the common dining area for a reason. The whole facility is disgusting. The carpet is soiled and sticky, no efforts are made to clean it. The rooms are crowded and it was very difficult to use the lifts due to the limited space. There is a MAJOR COCKROACH INFESTATION!!! My first few shifts I put my things in a locker. Later my co-worker told me that the break room lockers had so many cockroaches and that I should put my belongings in a sealed plastic bag. Nobody in management ever told me any of this. There was never a single mention of cockroaches, which is concerning. I found cockroaches in some resident’s rooms. There were cockroaches in the break room all over the floor and behind the staff fridge. The staff room is directly across from the kitchens, so I’ll leave it at that.
There was a respiratory outbreak while I was there. NO PPE was given, just signs on the room doors that all the PSWs were uneducated about and didn’t respect. I asked about PPE, the PSWs said they weren’t used and not necessary. Incredibly concerning considering the current climate, I hope they have changed.
Parkview stands against everything that I believe in about equality, care for the elderly and humanity. I was a PSW because I wanted to care for people at their most vulnerable. I believe that they deserve high quality physical, mental AND EMOTIONAL care. This is not a place that truly cares about its residents. Future workers be warned.

The whole place is toxic, everyone hates each other, no one talks to each other despite being partners and the care and treatment of the residents borders (if not crosses it) on neglect and abuse. The place has old dirty carpets where its very clear that residents have soiled it. The rooms are mostly made up of wards (4 beds per room) which was banned more than a decade ago I believe. Even if the ward rooms were grandfathered in the rooms are way too small for 4 beds. I have to turn sideways to go in-between the beds they were that close
I could forgive it for being an old building but I could never forgive the co-workers for their psychological abuse towards each other and especially new staff. They set each other up to fail or get fired and at the end of the day everyone goes home miserable and stressed enough to have a mental breakdown. I'm sure the residents can pick up on the tension amongst the employees. The residents are the reason why we are there, the most venerable people in our society. We are not there to gossip behind peoples backs or even in front of their face thinking we don't understand their language. Its also not a place to have cliques and then verbally get into fights in the halls in front of the only reason we are there, the residents. 
I worked there two years and my partner never said one word to me... in TWO years!
I could go on but I think I got my point across.

I have work there for Almost  four months.Patients are always First. The whole Health care team  work very hard to feel patients that they feel themselves at home.Nurses and Management is always open to  take suggestion for any improvement that could help patients Life at Parkview Nursing Centre..I love Huge Beautiful  Dinning room.Their Recreational activities are amazing.Patients are taken to Local restaurants, Fishing Trips and Shopping,Patients have Movie days, Ice cream days etc.This is a Perfect Long Term care.

Residents are kept busy, during the summer months, from boat trips ,bus trips walk in the park trips,family BBQ,residents dining under the shade for bbq lunches,staff sitting on the patio with residents voluntary on their breaks having coffee together chatting,lots of indoor games,and live entertainment,check it out see for yourself,as a long term staff I personally know the care is the best they will receive.management is very understanding of both staff and residents,that's my personal experience from being employed over 30 yrs

Parkview showed excellent skills on maintaining a schedule for the resident, they always has activities everyday for the residents to participate in and seemed very enjoyable for them to interact with one another.  The care and compasion was also outstanding, each resident was treated very well.

I have worked at Parkview over 25 years, there are many long term care staff members so I believe that says something about the facility. It is a home like setting where the residents are cared for like family. Management is giving, ie staff appreciation, nursing week, Christmas events and bbqs. Of course there is good and bad in everything but the good definitely outweighs the bad! 

My overall experience for my first job as a personal support work came with a mix of emotions. The job itself was great, but the few co-workers that didn't allow me to exercise my skills really made it an unpleasant work experience coming down to my decision to end my employment with them and move on from facility care to home care.

Working in long term care is not easy.  But, this nursing home is a great place to work.
Long term staff who care about the residents.  Yes, it is an old building but the staff do the best they can to give good care to residents.
If you are willing to care for the residents and work together with everyone, it is a great place to work!
