I had worked in PPG Aerospace, Mississauga ,ON,Canada as a seal cap producer from 2009 til 2012.The agency Manpower had placed me there. It was a good work environment to be in and I enjoyed my initial year.There were a few genuinely good few people in the plant. The work environment started getting worse when the new quality manager stepped into the plant and the plant supervisor who was a good man lost control of the proceedings. The quality manager was a highly controlling man ,cruel and insensitive all put together. The plant soon began to be run on the whims of the moment of this man. While this guy was strong in technical aspects, the disadvantage was that he was a misfit in dealing with people. Shortly afterwards,I was let go on the orders of the quality manager for doing a procedure in the manner in which the plant supervisor had told me. I had been in the plant 2yrs and 7months.In between my stay in PPG,Aerospace the Plant Manager  had abused his authority to hire 2 people into the plant who were  much junior to me and to many others working there just because they were his favorites. The plant depends heavily on its seal caps business for its survival. While I can understand why there is no hiring, since it is the single most expenditure on a company's budget,I was disappointed at the lack of transparency and favoritism when there were the odd few hirings. Whatever that happens is for a reason and I believe that I was let go because something better had to come my way. I was not getting hired, my take home salary was also just about the bare minimum wage since I was from an agency, there was no growth for me there and neither was I learning anything new after sometime. So  no harm done !

I worked for PPG for over a year and it was an extremely stressful job, the management at my location was very poor, I found I was often "the fall person" of the store, any issue was made to feel like I was at fault. Wages are awful, newer employees get paid more than experienced employees who have been with the company over a year. Management is reluctant to schedule changes, mine was never at the store past 3:30, other stores have cycling schedules to allow numerous people to open or close. Throughout my time with PPG it was seemingly weekly that my schedule would change with no notice, I would come in for shifts and told it was changed without communication, day of shift (in some cases let alone an hour prior to shift) I would have my manager text me saying my hours have changed or the store is so quiet that my shift is cancelled? this is ridiculous. Micromanagement by management is horrendous, after being with the company for over a year and understanding store operations, I shouldn't be nagged to do frivolous tasks, as an experienced worker I know what is expected of me and what should be done to ease the flow of operations. I would not recommend this job to friends, family, or anyone looking for a friendly and mentally sane work environment. 

The people you would work with could either be team members or make your life hard. Management would choose to turn a blind eye to unprofessionalism or lack of work ethic from certain team members and put it on those employees who worked well . May I add not only did they increase the work load on those individuals but there was no raise or appreciation to show for it.  There is no where to grow in the company, and once you reach a certain level the job is quite mundane. The company provides no raises, and pays you similar to starting wage at McDonalds. Management has no issue discussing their problems with employees with customers, other employees or to other stores in front of you. If you are dealing with life challenges, work is work, there is no compassion or empathy- no work life balance either. If you want to be paid for your work, your experience and be treated like a human that matters I would not work here. Most that work here are not happy. 

My job was to make sure the invoices were processed and they were paid on time. I had to communicate with the store managers, buyers, receivers and the vendors to see that the payments are well timed as well as accurate.
 I was able to communicate with people all over Canada since the company has plants, warehouses and stores all over Canada.
Got the opportunity to work on SAP.
The management was very understanding and cooperative. Co-workers got along well and were helpful to each other.
Hardest part was during the transition of company from ICI to Akzo Nobel and from AkzoNobel to PPG. We had to make sure the invoices were billed correctly to avoid any tax issues.
The most enjoyable part of the job is when the department get together and organizes a breakfast for a birthday or to welcome someone after a vacation.

The location of PPG I worked in was staffed with many experienced employees to assist us newer workers. The work was never overwhelming physically, but was fast paced. The workplace culture was not abusive and very fair. Meetings with the floor were daily and all employees were kept up to date.
The supervisors admitted at the time (2019) that they were inexperienced with teaching new employees as they were not frequently replacing staff.
Factory floor workers could take advantage of showers equipped with clean towels provided by the company.

They trick you into a office job then it turns out to be a heavy labour job. Managment is incompetent and they hire the managers with barely any management experience and for diversity reasons. You end up explaining to management the processes because they have no experience at all. They literally hire people with no experience and they hate on the competent ones. Don't get fooled by the company there are better jobs out there. Office politics are horrible and they're very cheap with how they spend money. Alot of safety issues alot of people get injured.

Zero room for advancement. Management is extremely two faced and will even acknowledge how underpaid employees are, but will do nothing to pay them more. Your experience doesnt matter to them and you start at minimum wage, but new employees with no experience will make the same or more than you. The job is extremely stressful and difficult with no support from managers who leave halfway through their shift every single day. VERY hard on the body too, physically demanding to an inhumane point.

Assign work to pickers.  Print copies of shipping documents. Interact on telephone with customer service personal.  Interact with shipping companies and organize shipments.  Interact with management.  Receive documents before allowing unloading of materials by warehouse personal.  Deal with problems and solve them. I enjoyed the interaction and leadership roles.  Brain storming with management about improvements in regards to shipments, safety, productivity, etc.

A typical day at work would be mixing paints and running the storefront while management occasionally makes appearances if they feel like it. No breaks, working through your lunch( Which they still deduct from your pay). Forced training that rarely works because the computers are so old. Store managers get praised for meeting goals and you are ignored even though you did most of the work. No raise in 3 years and new hires get paid better than you and they have no experience in the industry.

The people are the best part about working there. Everyone is very nice and help each other all the time

The manager watching you on camera while you work and micro managing over the radio at the same time
